Awesome how they apparently ask for 100% up front for treatment for my family's cat. Ever heard of payment plans? Luckily, I was able to pull $8000 like a rabbit out of a hat, but what would've happened if I couldn't have done that? Run around desperately looking for a place that would be sensible and do some kind of payment plan/bill negotiation with a poor cat in distress? GFY. My mom told me after talking with the people there that it's a common thing with vets, and looking it up it was shockingly true. That really surprised me. However, there has to be some sort of contingency plan for giant bills that you obviously can't expect people to pay up front. Especially at 2am in an emergent situation. By sheer luck I was able to help out with the exact bill amount. I still question the bill amount and potential quality of care, so I will assist my family with exploring other options in the event of another emergency. I'm sure there are much better places than this.

I recently took my 19 year old cat Panther here for an emergency visit. He hadn't been eating for a week and was suffering from what seemed to be an upper respiratory infection. I made the decision to euthanize him because I could tell he was suffering and the doctor said he most likely was experiencing kidney failure. The euthanasia was a hard experience to go through especially because I've had this cat since I was 11 years old. I will say the doctor was very caring and made me feel like I was in good hands. I had received a letter from them expressing their condolences. One thing I'm not very happy about though is that they offer to take a paw print as a momentum and I specifically asked them to use one of my cat's front paws since he was polydactl so he has two extra toe beans. They reassured me that they'd make a note and even mentioned it to me when I came to pick up the print. Unfortunately, the print wasn't his front paw because it didn't have the polydactl print. It may seem trivial that I'm upset, but I always remembered my cat for that distinction in his two front paws and that they disregarded my wishes even though the note was clearly there in my file. And when I called in to let them know what happened about the print, the front office just told me they'd leave a note in my file. I'm not sure if I'd recommend this place to anyone after this because this mistake just made me feel like they really don't care.

If I could leave a negative, I would. My cat that was 21 years old was found by a neighbor and taken to this place. The neighbor had only left the cat there under the pretence that they'd do no harm, or she'd take him home and wait for the owners. They agreed. We got there within two hours of finding out a neighbor had dropped him off. He was gone. His body-cold.I doubt they waited 15 minutes.Sure, he was an old cat. Sure, he was stiff in the morning. But he ate like a king, jumped onto chairs and counter tops and was always moving about, cuddling up to people and enjoying his life.I was 12 when I got this cat and now I'm in my mid 30s.They made an awful mistake. They took him before his time.I truly hope that our cries of pain now echo through the person's soul that made this choice and took him from us. From now until the end of time.I get that he was old, but we don't euthanize beautiful creatures that are friendly, walking, eating, drinking, cuddling and enjoying their life. We've been coming here for nearly 30 years. And this is how the relationship ends. This one truly hurt.

We went in there as an emergency because our dog had not eaten for 3 days. We thought he had a blockage. They wanted to keep him overnight and run tests. They called us in the middle of the night and said he did not have a blockage and that he had pancreatic cancer and wouldn't live longer than a month if we didn't pay 8k for a surgery. They said with the surgery he would only get another year of life. We were devastated and decided to go pick him up early and bring him home. We had prepaid for 24 hours worth of care (3k). He was only there for about 15. So we expected to receive some money back. Instead they sent us an additional bill in the mail for another $500. We took our dog into our regular vet the next day. He was blocked up! He had no cancer at all. Dr gave him some meds to help him go to the bathroom and he's been fine ever since! I'm so angry at Loomis and how they so coldly told us he had cancer and would die. Guilt tripped us for not paying 8k for a surgery and still charged us over 3 k for less than 24 hours and to be completely wrong in their findings. We were faced with the decision to put him down and I'm so glad we didn't listen and got another opinion!

Used to be good, a decade ago. Put down a 22 year old cat two hours after he was dropped off. He wasn’t a stray and by the time the family found out (two hours later) the baby had already been put down. He was not sick or hurt, just an old man. Horrible vet and has a long list of stories just like this one.

I wish my experience with this hospital didn't end the way it did. My dog Abby was given such good care by Oncology (for her cancer) and Emergency (for her kidney disease). Sadly, when it came time for us to let her go, due to extreme advancement of kidney disease, we had a horrible experience with this hospital. I called about scheduling euthanasia and also having a punch biopsy collected post mortem. The punch biopsy would be used to preserve Abby's DNA, and I had a kit with instructions. Before scheduling, the receptionist assured me that she spoke with the Medical Director Peter Vellutini and that he had researched the company and knew what the DNA collection via punch biopsy entailed. So, I scheduled the euthanasia, punch biopsy, and private cremation for Saturday 1/6/24. I was specifically told that the medical director would be there to do these services at the appt. However, I arrived for my appt and no one knew what I needed even though they collected payment for three things (euthansaisa, cremation, and punch biopsy). The vet on duty was very empathetic, but ultimately, we were refused service because she wasn't comfortable taking a punch biopsy for the purposes of DNA collection! We went home broken hearted, confused, and trying to come to grips with how this could have happened. I'm shocked at the disorganization that occurred and even more shocked that I was subjected to such elevated levels of stress and disappointment on a day that was already so hard. As I said, I wish my experience with this VCA had not ended so badly.

There’s a pattern here, Read the most recent reviews. Maybe this establishment should care less about taking as much money as they can and more about helping. Not a $7K bill for a cat with a UTI

Super helpful staff!! Came here on Christmas Day with our dog, even though they were unable to see him due to the high volume of patients, they provided plenty of other options and even helped call around to get him seen. We really appreciated the concern and extra help to get our boy in asap.

Brought our chihuahua/yorkie that wasn't eating for a couple of days and was acting weak. The staff was very kind and helpful. The doctor gave us our options with no pressure and we committed how much we could afford. We didn't do the whole recommendation and luckily everything they did was enough to turn the symptoms around. It took a couple of days to recovery but eventually she was fine and is not doing great. Thank you for being there for our family member.

If it were possible I would give this place a negative rating. On Thanksgiving we had a medical emergency with our kitty. I called this place and explained what was happening and I asked if we could bring her in. Their response was to tell me it was $380 just to walk in the door. The tech also said it was not a true emergency and to call back and make a regular appointment. Why are there so few 24 hour emergency vets in a city the size of Sacramento?? We took the advice of the tech and decided to call in the morning, that was a huge mistake, unfortunately our beautiful kitty was unresponsive in the morning and passed in our arms. While I realize emergencies don’t always have a happy outcome, having a so called expert tell us it was not a true emergency and could wait until the next day made me feel like I was a stupid overreacting pet parent who ignored my gut feeling. Since when did the veterinary industry stop caring about helping an animal in need and become only concerned with profit?? Instead of asking any questions or showing any concern, this tech gave us a dollar amount that was required just to be seen. While I will take some responsibility for not trusting my gut and insisting to be seen, I am beyond disappointed and devastated at the triage assessment of our beloved beautiful angel. I would not even take a sick caterpillar to this place. I highly suggest that if you love your fur child avoid this place at all costs

Brought my yellow lab in earlier this year for an emergency at the recommendation of my regular vet. It was one of the scariest/heartbreaking things I’ve ever had to deal with, but the staff seriously went above and beyond for my dog. They were very upfront about cost, likelihood of her survival, etc. She ended up being there for almost 2 weeks and it wasn’t cheap, but she has since made a full recovery and I’m forever grateful!

This place was a life saver! My dog had to have surgery a TPLO. My first call was redirected to Martie, what a wonderful woman and so calming. She answered all my question and she calmed me down. After talking to her and getting an appointment with in 2 days, I knew I was in the best care and so was my dog Max's. Everyone we came in contact with was spectacular, friendly, caring and happy to meet Max's. My dog is 115 pounds and a Staffordshire Terrier and Lab. He loved everyone he meet. The surgery went great and the surgeon was amazing. I have received calls already checking on Max's. They also sent an e-mail stateing, we were going to getting a refund. Not a little refund but hundreds of dollars, who does that these days? Very honest! Loomis Basin Veterinary is the best and I would give it 10 stars if I could! I want to thank everyone that helped me and Max's ?

This review is to tell you just how very lucky and blessed we were to be referred to Dr. Tessa Phillips, and how blessed your community is to have her. Although I am saddened to find she has left Florida, I am grateful for the extended life she has afforded our precious Peanut. We were referred for BOAS for our precious boy, at the time only two years young. During Dr. Phillips preoperative exam, Peanut was found to be over 85% occluded, requiring a temporary tracheostomy to even manage any post operative chance of survival. Sadly, she told us that most people would prefer she stop at this stage and pick their babies up. We put our faith in her, and we're so glad we did! Peanut's surgery was in April of this year, and he came home with his temp tracheostomy and healed without incident! I couldn't wait to hug Dr. Phillips, through tears, at our follow up appointment. Peanut celebrated his third birthday on September first, something that would most likely not have come to pass if it weren't for Dr. Phillip's expert care!!! I'm so glad she was in Florida when we needed her, and I'm truly envious of VCA and California for having her there!!
