Update: If I could give zero stars, I would. I want people to know exactly what Extra Space Storage did to my family.
When I rented my 5x8 unit 12 months ago, the rate was $99/month. After only four months, they doubled the rent. Two months later, they raised it again to $235/month. I called, begged for options, and explained that I was trying to catch up on payments. Instead of working with me, they locked me out. And on 11/11, without giving me a real chance to save what was inside, they sold my belongings.
What they sold was not junk. It was not replaceable. I only had a few items left, including my father’s military uniform with his name on it. He died while on active duty. That uniform was one of the last pieces of him we had. Extra Space Storage sold it like it meant nothing.
My family is devastated. My husband sent me this message the night we learned everything was gone, and it reflects exactly how much harm this company caused:
“The girls are very devastated about storage. Both are crying and angry. They said they lost irreplaceable things. It’s heavy in here tonight. She pointed out that it was misplaced to pay for a gym membership at the expense of losing tokens from her childhood memories. She said she doesn’t understand how she has lost her deceased grandmother’s jewelry and other irreplaceables. She began questioning why God would allow this to happen when she prays and reads her Bible. I feel like I really let the girls down. They both had healthy attachments to the items lost and felt they were being preserved in storage while losing their bedrooms and closets. It was as if the storage was safeguarding important parts of their identities. This is a big parenting blunder. It hurts to see them so broken.”
This is the level of pain Extra Space Storage caused by their predatory rent increases and complete lack of compassion. They took advantage of a family trying to hold onto the last pieces of a deceased veteran and generations of memories.
Please think twice before trusting this company with anything precious. Once it’s gone, they do not care and you will never get it back. The only thing that was left was my husband's college diploma left on the ground in front of the unit.
I feel completely taken advantage of. I signed up with Extra Space Storage for a unit at a reasonable rate of $118, less than 6 months later, they jacked up the rent by 53% to $180. No warning, no real justification. That’s not a small increase. It’s predatory. I downsized to a smaller apartment with no garage, thinking I could safely store my work items here. Now I’m behind on payments because I simply can’t afford this surprise hike, and they’ve locked me out of my own unit. I can’t access essential items I need for work. This company lures people in with low prices, then traps them when it’s too hard to move everything out. It's a classic bait and switch, and it’s hurting people who are just trying to stay afloat. Be very careful before you rent here.

Excellent service. Clean storage. Service desk personnel....she's so nice and sweet. Loving the digital access. So high tech. Loving it.

Jessica was great. She listened to me rant and my stories that she was patient and very helpful. I went into swap units for a smaller one. She was able to help me do that she gave me a tour and was able to grab me access today overall great experience!

Close to home, good access hours. Rate is high and getting higher, but its Los Alamitos, so I guess I should expect that LOL. That said, I feel like I am getting what I pay for.

When I first moved in to my 5x8 the rent was under $100. I have only been here for 12 months and already my rental fee has increased over 100%. I just got a notice that my November rent will be $223/mo outrageous. I complained to the agent at the front when my rent went up $60 months ago and he said yea that is more that he could even pay but there is no rent control on storage. So I am being hustled. Plus my items are getting weathered while in the unit. Its like they are sitting outside. I return to them having dust and weather wear on them. Very strange especially giving the outrageous amount they increased my tiny unit. $223 for a 5x8. Time to move out. There are other storage locations near with rents way less.

I have been here for years and my experience has been fantastic! It was clean, reliable and cheap for the area. The management is also extremely welcoming and always make us feel welcome when we come down.
