Such a cool place to bowl! Had a few drinks and fries. It was a great time in a unique place.

If you're looking for a nostalgic and very cool place to have some fun, or you're on a date, def recommend this place but there's a few things you should know before you go for sure, so here goes!1 - Eat Beforehand. While the bowling, ambiance, and billiards tables are a great way to have some fun, I wouldn't recommend having your meal here. You have a pretty big selection of pizzas and sides on their menu, fries too, but it's packed with salt and wasn't satisfying for me. Sampled a few items in my visits here - it's drunk food at best. 2 - MAKE A RESERVATION!!!!!!Call 24 hours or more before you visit to reserve a lane. You WILL wait at least an hour for a lane Thursday onward. Don't kid yourself and not do it - it's not a fun wait, especially if you're on a date. I paid $78 after tax for two of us to bowl for an hour. The bowl-hosts are fantastic and give you plenty of heads up and grace-period time at the end to wrap it up. Treat them well, they're good people. 3 - Get your drinks from the bar The service at the lanes is spotty at best. They come over in the beginning but past that you have to flag/chase them down. Been that way the few times I've visited so if you're looking to drink or just like that level of attention, save yourself the aggravation and order from the bar. Trust. 4 - Main hosts/billiards area hostsWhen you first walk in you have the main host/host of the billiards area. They deal with party's and the billiards area. They are not the hosts of the lanes (those hosts are located inside at the foot of the actual bowling lanes). If you have to speak to them, know they are not pleasant at all and to expect mechanical answers (basing this off of four weekend visits now).5 - Peep the picsThere's really cool pictures all over the walls leading up and into the bathroom area. Worth taking a look as this place has a ton of history and is easily the most fun part of visiting here....aside from the bowling of course. To sum it up, this place is a lot of fun. There's tons of history dating back to the roaring 20's, awesome decor, and granted - a fun place to bowl, but it's very much in your favor to plan ahead when visiting. Overall, 3.5 stars.

I had a lot of fun here. The food was actually pretty good. If you like chillies, ricotta and honey on pizza plus add on pepperoni, then the Contadina is the perfect choice. The stuffed mushroom was actually also really good, the creaminess with the stringy hard baked texture of the cheese makes it so yummy. The calamari had nice seasonings too. The pool table was pretty fun although the middle table is slanted and not flat so try and play on the other 2 tables instead. The price for pool table wasn't too bad either but I heard the bowling prices are pretty hefty. Overall, it was a cool place and it's been around at least since the 1920s.

HLPB isn't as crazy or crowded as it used to be but it's still an awesome place to grab some drinks, a bite, and bowl! Haven't been back since the pandemic and we recently popped by on a Saturday afternoon. It was around a 45min wait for a lane so we grabbed a few drinks and just hung out. Since only one of the circular bar was open, we we decided to grab a table and a staff came by quickly and took care of us. Once we started bowling, it reminded why I like the place so much. Being able to see the inner workings of the pin setting and the overall feel of the place, it's just different than your typically bowling alley. The lanes are starting to deteriorate a bit though and some of the balls really needed replacing!

I did not have food at this place but I had some of the most fun bowling. When you step on the lanes you step back in time. The lanes are like something out of the 1940s or earlier. The staff is very attentive. I did have a drink while I bowled and it was good. Great bar location if you don't want to bowl or are wanting for a lane. The price to bowl for an hour is reasonable. I will be back.

I've been running around working on a tourist friendly guide for LA. I arrive and was immediately scolded for having a DSLR camera. I walk inside and everyone is snapping pictures on their phone. But I was told to keep my camera hidden.... So, not tourist friendly. Then I ordered a Moscow mule and it was served in a glass instead of copper. I can ignore that, but the flavor wasn't there either. The place looks marvelous it's a shame they won't let you take good quality pictures of the lanes.

It's a nice historical building. The bowling ally was great, just make sure you reserve ahead of time. Drinks and food wise where not the best. We had two different waiters, very attentive.

Super cool this spot still exists. Kinda steampunk mixed with great gatspy. Only a handful of lanes but worth the wait.

I feel like this is a good spot for a birthday or large party but i don't know if I'd come just on any ole weekend. Starting from the parking lot, it's a super crowded bar in a super crowded area. The inside is pretty cool, old school bowling alleys with more of a traditional feel. There's only a handful of lanes- somewhere from 5-8 tops- so booking a lane or two for more than an hour can be difficult. The balls we had were pretty dinged up too. Like whole chunks of ball taken out of some of them. What happened? I think I would have given another star if we were able to stay longer, but our group of 8 only came for an hour because that's all we were able to book in advance. Truly just one game before we had to go.Shoe area was kind of gross too. I know their sanitizing spray probably works wonders but watching them give these dirty shoes a single spritz in front of me did NOT make me want to put them on. Ordered the Brussels sprouts which were fab. Crispy and yummy with the perfect amount of pancetta. Fries were good as well, as were the drinks. Luckily we were there for happy hour so the bill was not too crazy and we just walked somewhere else when we were kicked out after an hour

I have gone 3-4 times already and this place has never disappointed. Place has a great vibe, service is fast, drinks are great (the Handsome is my favorite!) and the restrooms are clean. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Our favorite spot to bowl and play pool. You really can't go wrong here. The atmosphere is super comfy and fun, the food is good and there's a ton to do. We came on a weekend during the day and there were only two other lanes occupied. Lucky us, we were given a lane within 5 minutes of arriving and playing right away. We weren't too hungry but still ordered the brussel sprouts and really enjoyed them. Next time we'll order a pizza because it looked good! There's a room when you walk in that has 3 pool tables, which we took advantage of too. Awesome and friendly staff, cool vibe, and 10/10 all around. Thanks for a fun afternoon!
