Dr Kimberly Carvalho is the only vet in Los Angeles that I completely trust for the care of my animals. I first met her over 15 years ago (likely closer to 20) with my first cat. I've since moved and had to go to other vets closer to me but when something serious comes up I will go to her and trust her without a doubt to do and suggest what is in the best interest of my animals. This place was bought out many years ago by VCA unfortunately but VCA did not affect the quality of care here at this office at all thankfully. The pricing is a little above average and one reason I don't go here often. It's on par with other VCA so you know what to expect. If you're looking for somewhere to go where they care about the well-being of your pets over everything else, this is a safe bet.Over the years I've been told to not do procedures at times that would cause unnecessary distress and suffering and I've also had one of my pets lives completely saved when there was little hope of survival.

I have worked with the amazing vets there since 1989 and have always been thankful and grateful for their help (and I am an honorary vet, as a Furless People Physician!).

No one ever picks up the phone. The hold line will have you sitting there for a half hour and no one picks up.

Not recommended. Not friendly towards owner or pet. Staff & vet difficult to reach by phone, act like they don't know you or your pet & recommend expensive diagnostic tests instead of actually listening to owner & examining your pet. Never a friendly greeting for you or your pet... just 'who are you & want do you want'. Anxious pets get medicated, not TLC.

Well, I am done with this place. Terrible service - the vets don't care about explanations (side effects of the rabies shot we got today which my pet is exhibiting) or personal service. They try to shame you into doing dental cleanings and extractions as the highest price possible even though there is no research showing that it extents their life I visited today with Dr Thorrens, she came in for maybe 60 seconds to take my cat to get his rabies vaccine and one blood test for FIV and I was charged $169 just for her time - the entire bill was just under $500. VCA is driving this zombie like care by the Vets now. I will not return to this office or any other VCA affiliated office.

We go to Dr Olken but the entire staff is lovely and we've seen other vets if we need to go on her off days. They've taken excellent care of my elderly kitties

I am very unhappy with their customer service and appointment system. I had an appointment tomorrow morning for a follow up on a possible heart murmur on my dog. I had arranged the day off way in advance from my job due to it being book 6 months ago. They call me today telling me the Vet was on maternity leave and wouldn’t be able to see me tomorrow. It’s very inconvenient and frustrating to be informed the day before. They could have let me know weeks in advance or fit me in the same day with a different Dr. I don’t want to be rude but it takes 9months for a baby to be born. I couldn’t get a notice in the last 6 months about the changes ?

Does not answer phone, is not open hours advertised. I’ve been leaving messages and waiting all weekend and Monday to see if pets medication refill was ready for pick up. When I finally did get through I was notified the medication was denied unless I made another appointment. How do you deny amoxicillin refill? The one and only time I did make it in, they insisted on a bunch of scans and tests ($900) that ultimately told us nothing of pets condition. Seems like a lot of money grabbing and not a lot of actual care.

I continue to be impressed with VCA Brentwood. Today was my second visit. I took my dog for an ultrasound and asked for a few tech services (nails and wound care) which were done without charge -- a nice touch considering the ultrasound is expensive. My vet (Dr. Olken) on her own initiative and without charging for a consult, took a look at the wound (she had seen it a month ago during my dog's first exam, which is why I did not ask her to look today) and prescribed another antibiotic. During my morning drop off I chatted with some other clients and they all seemed happy to be there and not stressed. After 20 years of vet clinics that never seemed to notice I was a repeat client, it is really refreshing to be treated like a human being. Also nice to be in an office that is calm even though they are busy.

Dr. Kimberly Carvalho hands down the most kind, honest, loving, professional and knowledgeable vet!She responds to your calls in a timely manner, she runs on time, she is truly a dying breed of veterinarians. We have been with her for more 18 years. She is also a great listener when I was unhappy with her support members, she was able to get back to me with an understanding of the situation and it never happened again. Great person to have looking after your furry friends.

She takes the time to answer all of our questions and concerns and always keeps us informed about our cat's health and progress. The hospital offers a wide range of services, including routine check-ups, vaccinations, dental care, and emergency services. I’ve never written a bad review about anyone or anything but here we go. I had been coming here for several years for my dog’s health needs and was largely happy with the care, even though the prices were always pretty high. However, after the cost of my most recent visit, I will most definitely never return.First of all, when I called to book the appointment, all I needed were a couple of vaccines for my dog, and that’s all I wanted. But since he hadn’t been in for a visit in over a year, they said that he required a full wellness exam and explained that he had to have that first in order to get the vaccines. I wasn’t thrilled with being forced to pay for a full wellness exam, but I said ok. During the exam, the doctor was very friendly but suggested a blood panel. What was not mentioned was that this blood panel would be over $500.No prices were ever discussed with me at any point. When I went to check out, the total cost was almost $800. Again, I booked the appointment only wanting two vaccines. I paid it because I was honestly in so much shock and felt like I had no choice in the moment.I thought better of it a little later and called to see if we could cancel the blood tests because I simply could not afford it. The receptionist said she would talk to the doctor and call me back. 3 hours later- they called me back to say the tests had already been done.I understand that the cost of animal care always has the potential to be expensive. But this is just ridiculous.Wellness exam: $165Blood panel: $508Bordetella vaccine: $52.70K9 flu vaccine: $65.35Total cost: $795.30
