Had a lot of VW's over the years and the Auto Meister is a throw back the those little shops that really do it right! Sorry to hear a review claiming a rare part was plucked or comments laced with F-bombs because they could not get an appointment right away. This is a two stall shop with customer cars wedged from the boulevard to back alley. It is a big town and they have no shortage of customers. Randy's supreme mission is to do a quality repair for a fair price, he is not eager to overbook. I bought a '71 Westy in November 2019 and had to wait until January before he could make room, this is not my daily driver so two months was not a big F*cking deal to me. Randy honored the January appointment, did a complete and thorough job going through my bus, it's running great! Since then I have driven 4,000 trouble free miles just running around town. Randy did a tune-up last week, planning to visit my daughter in Santa Barbara next week and will drive with confidence. Delighted to have a local shop where the same hands have been wrenching VW's for over fifty years. Randy deserves full praise for his expertise and for running a quality shop held in very high esteem serving the South Bay community for over fifty years.

They definitely know what they are doing. But they will also replace your original rare brown German 40 hp distributor with a cheapy modern one and then try to keep it hoping you don't know any better. Not a theory. They did it to me. So as long as you watch them. They are definitely good mechanics.

Best VW mechanics in the Los Angeles area, extremely knowledgeable and just good all around people. There's a good reason this shop has such a following.

First guy I spoke to couldn't have sounded less interested in me bringing my Westfalia down. I started the conversation out with, "heard you guys were the best in the Southbay!!" and he couldn't have sounded any less flattered. I heard him somewhat scoff in the background when this gentlemen passed me off to the owner. When I spoke to the owner "Randy" he thought I was someone he may have known and sounded like was willing to help. When I told him I heard of him from Yelp he quickly interjected, "sorry we are 2 months out." No offense Randy, but two F****** months out? How in the Hell are you in business with this kind of service and attitude. Frankly you offer NO SERVICE!!!! Will sell the bus as it is or just keep driving it with a F***** up clutch. There is no way you will ever get me to alter this review so consider it a staple on your business ethics and more importantly service, which is slim to none. What a joke!!!

I don't take my 67 vw bug anywhere else because these guys know it. When my bug gets sick these auto meister doctors fix it quickly and without any complications. I trust no one else with my classic car.

My wife's '72 bug was in dire need of some TLC due to not being driven for over a year. The wheels were locked, the turn signals didn't work, the windshield wipers didn't work, we wanted an electronic ignition to be installed so we didn't have to have the points adjusted every few months, and we wanted the horn to be louder for safety reasons. Everything was addressed and fixed in a timely manner and was reasonably priced. Randy is one of the most honest mechanics I have ever met. My wife and I have been searching for a reliable, affordable, and honest mechanic who specializes in classic Volkswagens. I can't believe he is located a few miles away from us and has been there for decades. If you have a classic Volkswagen and need honest, reliable service, Auto Meister in Manhattan Beach is where you should go.

I've known Randy & Robert since the early 1970s. Had my '67 bus motor rebuilt there. Sold my bus in the early 80s, but kept the motor, and installed it in my '68 beetle. I installed new heads at approximately 100k after losing a valve seat ... sold the beetle in the late 80's with 175k miles on the lower end.Randy rebuilt the transaxle for my SWB Porsche 911 back in the 80's, still running strong 40 years later.Recently had the tired 1.9L motor from my '84 Vanagon Westfalia rebuilt there. Original miles were about 170k and it sucked a valve. Randy recommended building it up to a 2.1L, and what a difference that made. They also installed a Go-Westy lift kit, and replaced all fuel & vacuum hoses at that time. They conduct such a great business that there IS a waiting list, but it's worth the wait if you have the time.
