Bank of the West used to have the best customer service . I have been banking with them for over 20 years and the Manteca Branch is the worst Bank of the West customer service oriented branch I have ever experienced. It is time for me to move my money ,

The staff at BOTW-Manteca are tops. You couldn't ask for more competent and friendly men and women. It is the upper echelon, the Elite, I find out of touch. Nandita Bakhshi CEO Bharat Masrani Michael Shepherd. In all the years I have worked in the banking arena and I am 86, I have never known a financial institution to intentionally put a customer's account in arrears. To avoid a $10.00 service fee you need a direct deposit to the account AND it must be deposited within their time limit, e.g., SSA Direct Deposit does not qualify on its own merits if you happen to be a senior who receives payment in the middle of the month. To explain, the cutoff date for my account is the 17th of any given month. Unfortunately, for me, my direct deposit was on the 21st. I did not have the extra $1.00 to deposit to avoid the $10.00 service fee so on the 17th of December, 2022, my account was assessed the fee putting me $2.27 in arrears. When notifying the back office I was told "you only get one chance for reversal and you have had yours." Bank of the West is not for the "little guy", the widow on social security with one deposit a month. Caution is advised if you are not one of the Elite with unlimited funds. Sandra L. Surprised at the negative reviews. Been with the Manteca branch since 2013. No issues to note. Over those years, tellers have been friendly and provided excellent customer service. Only sometimes challenge is parking, but a spot usually opens up after a short time. Had a CD there few years ago at a decent interest rate. Once expired, cashed it in with zero problems. Even during the Pandemic shutdown, this branch, except for about 10 days was reliable. That 10 days shutdown was because many of the employees were exposed to Covid - customer/employee health was in front of bank profits - as it should be. Other banks had same problem BTW. Also had an account at Union Bank then located at SaveMart in Modesto. That branch was shutdown and never reopened leaving only the main branch downtown Modesto. Due to distance, closed that account.

We have a business checking account, saving account and personal account at Bank of the West . At one time we had home loans and rental property loans here, they were not financially friendly and we refinanced everything at another bank, several years ago saving lots of interest. We are now looking for a new bank! They say the are a business friendly bank, last week I saw a charge on my checking account for $1.25. I asked the teller what was this charge? She said it because you deposited over the limit of cash. We have a rental business and some months will have renter pay cash. I told her that's not right, it not the $1.25, it the principal. She said she would have someone from the branch call. On Monday the branch manager called. He explained the charge, I told him it's not the 1.25 it's the principle that you charge people to use cash!!! He suggested that I change the business checking account that I have, I again said to him what bank charges you to deposit cash? He was very short, never apologizing or removing the charge. I told him, you have made your decision how to run your bank and I'll have to make my decision if I'm going to continue to bank year. It's a pain to change banks but I'm asking around for recommendations.

Not sure why this branch has such low ratings.. I've been banking here since 1995, omg so long ago, but when I was going through some difficult situations, they were more than helpful. Then today I received a call from the branch and once again received excellent service, with a human touch. If you ask, they might surprise you!!! I'll continue banking here and recommend others do the same!!
