Charming little cafe with good indoor and outdoor seating, knick knacks, an ATM, and a little free library. The staff were friendly, but with a large party, the food took about 45 minutes and they missed my order.

I had a great Roast beef sandwich with Gluten free bread. Varied selection of gourmet sandwiches in the middle of nowhere.

We went for lotto tickets. Line went fast, and the food looked and smelled amazing! Next time, I'm getting a sandwich!

Here I sit in Reno, CRAVING the Italian sandwich from Mad dog cafe. Questioning myself is 55 miles too far to go for lunch??! HahaMy fiancé and I drove past mad dog on our bi annual trip to hope valley to camp and made a note of it as we usually drive up through Tahoe and have never passed it before. On our trip out we always go through markleeville and we're saddened to see the closing of the deli in markleeville, we decided to drive home through Carson. And we were so very happy with our visit to Mad dog.The Italian was so tasty, soft fresh bread, mortadella, and the perfect amount of pickles. We bought some local honey right before cold season and a few other sundries. This place is a true gem. It is taking everything in me to not get in the car right now and drive an hour just for that damn sandwich. Thanks so much

The Mad Dog Cafe makes excellent sandwiches and more, and I thoroughly enjoyed The Avalanche. The few bites I had of The Wall were quite tasty - so much so that I almost wish that I had gotten that sandwich instead (next time). Very comfortable atmosphere, and the staff are quite friendly, very helpful, and skilled.Parking: Parking is available on the dirt strip adjacent to the road, across the street from the cafe. If they are not too busy, parking is a breeze; however, when they are busy, parking can be frustratingly close to impossible. And, since the parking is on the opposite side of the road, when they are busy, getting over and back can feel like a two-lane version of real-world Frogger.Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp in front to get up to the deck and store entry, but it is a little steep and rough. Caution is advised. I did not see any signed handicap parking.

Nice local country store with a lot of knickknacks that's a popular spot for good sandwiches and other treats - outdoor seating with a nice view.

Great sandwiches, nice people and interesting things to buy other than food. I return to them often.

Sandwiches are super OK - not worth the price. Witnessed a pissed off customer using profanity at the women behind the counter. I thought he was being inappropriate until I got my sandwich (Off the Rim). Now I (sorta) understand. Please continue down the road. This place will only piss you off.

Getting better. Dave Kirby set the standard HIGH! DAVE'S wife was a Great Baker and pies, cakes, etc. Deli makes nice sandwiches. Have been stopping here since 1967. Alpine county is California's smallest population less than 1200 people.Parking: Limited area, side of road.
