The food was great stakes came out as ordered and each was large enough to have some to take home! Service, the service was laid back and our party never felt pressured or rushed. Ambiance, the cafe is family friendly and at a stockyard...it was clean, neat and no fluff...the cafe is only open for dinner on Friday nights and is a good spot to unwind.

Finally made it to Famoso for the basque Friday night dinner. It was delicious to say the least. All the normal set up foods like soup, bread, pickled tongue were great but the ultimate star was the steak. We added the mushrooms and garlic and it didn't disappoint. My suggestion...make the trip to this place and go home happily in a meat coma.

Very nice and friendly staff. Get the biscuits and gravy, it was top 3 I’ve ever had. Eggs needed salt and pepper and bacon had a little bit of an off taste. I would come here again when traveling south for the biscuits and gravy and great service.

The ambiance is casual. This seems like the only place around. The menu has many tempting items. The beef selections looked great. Having just had a steak and planning dinner tonight for another I opted for a tuna melt. My tuna melt was really large. There was two to types of cheese, grilled onions and enough tuna for three generous sandwiches. Hubby had the grilled ham and cheese. He was able to get pepper jack cheese. The bread was perfectly toasted and there was lots of Black Forest ham. The waitress was friendly and quick. Thanks Kim for making us feel welcome and serving us with a smile. Strongly recommend Idle Spur. We will stop here again.

Hidden little gem tucked away off the freeway. Rustic western/cattleman decor in an unassuming building. We had been here for lunch and had nice meals before. Finally made it in for their Friday Basque dinner and oh boy what a treat. We hadn't made reservations and they were busy, but they were able to fit us in after a minor wait. Even short handed that night they treated everyone well and provided great service. Plates of delicious Basque set up: Amazing Soup and Beans with crusty bread. Salad, pickled tongue for me, crisp French fries and vegetables. My pork chops with garlic were outstanding and Hubby loved his steak. Both cooked perfectly to order. Everything paired so well with the Melodramatic red blend a new find for me. A date night experience to add to our rotation. Well worth the drive. Thank you Idle Spur

We went on a Friday night. The place is definitely off the grid kind of place. The staff were great, friendly, and on top of things. The food was amazing! We went with a group of friends and had a great time. They do have a mascot dog that hangs around the property. Do not be scared. He is such a friendly dog that was abandoned there and the restaurant staff makes sure he doesn't go without food.

(Reservation phone # for Friday in picture)This place is an Amazing Restaurant. The service was top-notch and very kind. The food was superb, the Garlic Chicken was so crispy and soft and juicy, it was falling off the bone soft ( something that other chicken restaurant WISH they could do) The sirloin steak was so large and cooked to perfection. The salad was so full of Zest and flavor, such flavors I have not experienced before. The bread basket with the mild sauce was something I was not expecting but it was great combo, and the veggie soup was such a delight. We went [3 of us] during Basque hour at 5. We did not have reservations but the server was so kind she was able to find us a table. So reservations for Friday nights are a must! The staff was attentive to our needs. I would rate this restaurant 5/5 ?You must try this restaurant you will be missing out on an amazing dining experience if you don't.This place has honed itself into a sharp blade and has PERFECTED its craft in the restaurant industry

A hidden gem! Delicious, high quality food! Located at a cattle stockyard off of the 99 freeway and the 46, about 15 minutes north of Bakersfield. This restaurant has the best steak and eggs in all of California's Central Valley! They cut their own meat! Take your pick. New York Steak, Ribeye, or Top Sirloin. They have steak nights every Friday. I also like their Stockman Burger. They only use high quality ingredients. The Idle Spur Cafe is a mom and pop restaurant with incredible service.

STOP! You must read this review. To tell you the truth I didn't want to leave a review for this establishment simply because I wanted to keep the secret to myself. Judgement got the better of me so here we are. Imagine working on a ranch with horses & livestock since early in the morning. You are starving for a solid, hearty breakfast cooked to perfection with large portions. This is the place you have always looked for but have never found. Now you have! look no further! Driving up you will think you are 100% lost. You will enter an auction stockyard and you will think that this could not possibly be the place . . . But it is! The staff is super nice & welcomes you even if you are a first-timer. Trust me. The local cowboys know this place well. The diner itself is small. It is almost like stepping back in time, a simpler time. It may be small and unassuming but it delivers a mighty breakfast. I had the kitchen sink omelette with hash-browns and a biscuit & gravy. My wife had the steak fajita omelette with home fries. Amazing breakfast! Don't believe me - check out my pics. Thank you Idle Spur for your hospitality, service, and amazing food! We will return!

This place is a hidden gem. I won't say how amazing the ribeye steak was or the Basque style dinner. And how great the service was!!! I don't want to say how super yummy their food is because I want to make sure I can still get a table next time we go eat at The Idle Spur Cafe! Lol. Seriously great food here! Might have to try a weekday breakfast there soon!

Had been here once before and stopped for lunch sandwich again to see if it was still as good. It is! The tri-tip sandwich is a good lunch choice as is the chicken club. Many good items on their menu. Just off 99/Hwy 46 junction. Part of cattleman's auction arena. Don't let the outside scare you away. Pull in and park out by the haystacks for cafe entrance. Service and food is good. You'll fit right in if you wear your jeans, boots and cowboy hat You'll be welcomed if you don't.
