Brought our sick cat in who was very lethargic and drooling. While we were there the power went out, employees seemed in a hurry to get us out of there. Sent us home with charcoal supplements and said it should be fine. Two days later and our cat passed away. And we had been following the instructions they gave us. He was not thoroughly checked out and I believe if he had been he could have been saved.

I just phoned to get an appointment for my dog. Alexis answered and spoke SO fast I couldn't understand what she was saying, then our call was dropped and I had to call back. Again Alexis answered and I asked her to speak more slowly, she didn't. Eventually I got an appointment arranged but it was frustrating how many times I had to ask "what" or "huh"? Been going to this vet office for years beginning when a different vet ran it, stayed on mostly out of loyalty, now considering switching. Oh, and I phoned last week but due to "high call volume" they offered to phone me back rather than keep me on hold but didn't. Lois de Coux 30+ year customer

They're so good, and they've been so good for decades, that they're our favorite veterinarians. They literally saved our pet's life, allowed us to visit after hours, and showed true concern and compassion for our pet's health. That sounds like stuff you would take for granted at a vet's office, but it really is not common these days - not anywhere we have been, at least. We are so grateful for this excellent veterinary hospital.

I miss Dr. Ott. My experience with MACC over the years has been hit or miss but overall I would say 3.5 stars. Today was a 0 star experience, and I quickly realized it was due to my animal being seen by a different doctor as Dr. Ott has left for a different practice. Good for her. I am not going to give specific details because this is a very small town and this is the ONLY vet office I can go to because NO offices are accepting new patients. I will get him in for an emergency somewhere else if I have the money some time. Something will come up. In the meantime, I think its fair to write a letter directly to you Dr. Schmall. When you act judgmentally about something you know nothing about it truly shows a poor character and an overall lack of respect for the patient and its family/caretakers. I have done *everything* for my rescue despite constant screw ups from your office, and local agencies of which, I again will not be specific. I have literally changed my entire *life* around for my animals needs. I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars at your office for the very issue I *thought* my animal had today. I am not even managing my own medical care very well the fact that I'm prioritizing this should be a GOOD thing. But you made me feel hella bad. I'm not gonna lie I cried for 30 minutes after getting off the phone. I literally give so much to this community, and get treated like this when I'm having a hard time and my animal's routine has caused him to have a minor injury. Today instead of acknowledging that my poor animal is suffering and telling me it was right to get them seen for meds, you just asked me why I even thought it would be something it couldn't possibly be, (because I'm not a vet......) shamed and judged me and presumed to know how well I take care of my animal. I have been experiencing hell for several weeks. I work in a professional that requires me to have an IMMENSE level of patience, and EMPATHY. I cannot believe that after so many years practicing as a Veterinarian you think how you spoke to me is OK. I feel pretty at a loss for words. I expect better. Paying the bill isn't what stung the most today IT WAS YOU. I hope you treat me better next time. You just never know what someone is going through! Be KIND.

UPDATE on Moxie Rose Mox is back to Maligating and healing VERY nicely. She was able to get some real exercise today for the first time and we wanted to share the experience. Thank you AGAIN for your professionalism and compassion. We have both been through so much. We are definitely looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship taking care of this very special girl. Thanks again to ALL of you!! I bet you didn't know Moxie has her own YouTube channel. She is raising awareness for PTSD, the Belgian Malinois breed, and the VALUE of service animals in every day recovery. Check it out!!

Dr. Steg is awesome! I dealt with another vet during one of my pup's euthanasia. I can't recall her name but she was also amazing and the way they handled the entire process was above and beyond. I've also had great experiences boarding here.

I've been coming to this vet since 2002 and have never had a bad experience. My pets have received caring and competent treatment without exception. The only unpleasant situations had to do with end-of-life decisions that I had to decide. And the staff was caring to the end. Sam King

I had to wait to write this review because I was SEETHING after our encounter at Mckinleyville Animal Care Center. What my cousin and I went thru with this vets office over my cousins 17 year old cats end of life care was utterly appalling. After much confusion, different information given to us by different employees, calling and checking on cremation status multiple times and being told we were still waiting for his ashes to arrive, to then be told that we were supposed to pay the cremation costs before he gets sent out (which is not what we were told at the time of euthanasia) and when we brought that up we were told that it was "highly unlikely" someone told us that. there were 4 of us in the room, how did we ALL leave having heard this if it's SOOOO highly unlikely someone in your office would say it?? so we find out he's still in a deep freezer in the back of their building. BAD right? well, it gets worse. we have no problems paying for the cremation, obviously! we were just given inaccurate information implying we would be paying for it at the same time we pick the ashes up from them, we understand that this was all just a HORRIBLE miscommunication. we go in to pay for it and are desperately trying to explain the situation to Cambria behind the counter. she prints the receipt, it's wrong, shes got us paying for another family members vet bills and then she blames us for us not knowing what we're paying for, (after we said 2x that we were there to pay for his cremation). We had been asking to speak to the manager we had spoken to on the phone and she went to the back for a while and came back out and told us that she had been wrong and she'd fixed the billing mistake and told us that Precious should be back in a couple of days which AGAIN made no sense if they don't send animals out till the cremation is paid for. so we left and immediately called the crematorium to make sure he was there. HE WASN'T. so we marched back in and demanded that she go and check the deep freezer because our cat was NOT there like she just told us he was. she does and checks, comes back with the manager that we had been asking to speak with from the beginning and are told its "highly unlikely" we were given the information, Cambria is ROLLING HER EYES & TALKING CRAP WITH ANOTHER EMPLOYEE RIGHT BEHIND THE MANAGER. Found Precious, IN THEIR FREEZER and told them to go get him, we took him to the crematorium ourselves and told them not to release the ashes back to that office, that we will pick up from him. I have NEVER seen such horrid customer service. MACC, you made a traumatic experience 10x worse. I would never recommend this office for anything but especially not end of life care for your animal. you get different answers from different employees, then told you're wrong, then treated like garbage by the employees after they lost your best friend of 17 years for 2 months. i was told as i was taking Presh from the manager that Cambria would be talked to about her attitude, but in all honesty she should be fired immediately after treating customers of 17+ years that was on top of not understanding how to work the computer system which she clearly couldn't do. the best part about this "care center" is that our Precious isn't there anymore. Pet lovers, BEWARE.

The staff here are professionals. Not only are they efficient and courteous, they are empathetic and kind during even the most stressful and heartbreaking situations. I am so grateful for the care they have given our pets and am grateful for the dedication they show to animals and humans alike.

ATTENON NEW CLIENTS OR THOSE INQUIRING: Don't waste your time calling here. THE DO NOT SEE ANYONE WHO IS NOT A CURRENT CLIENT. Front desk informed me that they do not except new clients they also have a waitlist to become a new client so seeing them in any type of quickness is out of the question. It blows my mind that as a vet you can't hire more people and you'd rather not see customers because you don't wanna pay for more employees really blows my mind. As a vet aren't you the one who supposed to be helping us care for our animals? And if not you then who else?

These guys are great, and kind. However, I have one thing I'd like to say. My elderly Labrador had a chronic retching cough and would pant while lying down. I took her into the Animal Care Center and was told it was kennel cough repeatedly (4-5 visits). I asked multiple times for them to reconsider because I did not believe it to be kennel cough and also due to the treatments not working and her cough continuing. Obviously I'm not a veterinarian, so I deferred to their judgem

Obviously I'm not a veterinarian, so I deferred to their judgement and continued her treatment to no avail. The most recent time I went in, I was once again told it was kennel cough so I scheduled an appointment with another vet. I just had to go to a local emergency vet last night as her breathing was incredibly shallow and quick. She was diagnosed (correctly) with congestive heart failure (CHF) which, now that I research it, is an obvious diagnosis for my dog's symptoms from the start. Again, I'm not a vet but this is my opinion and I am firm on believing that this should have been an obvious consideration when diagnosing her cough and panting. She was elderly when this concern began, and she was showing multiple symptoms of CHF. Ignoring and/or neglecting to consider this is a serious violation of my trust in the care my dog was receiving from them. Again, these guys were nothing but kind to me, but I must put this out there for my dog because I feel it is right to let it be known. To sum it all up, I feel as though I was ignored and/or brushed off when dealing with my dog's health, and that led to more than a year and a half of delayed treatment. This delay has directly contributed to a shortened lifespan for my dog. I cannot in good conscience recommend McKinleyville Animal Care Center to anyone at all, and I will be removing all three of my dogs from their care.

I got my puppy spayed here and was asked if I wanted a catheter and an IV included with the surgery for an extra charge. They said it wasn't necessary, it was optional. I thought it was odd so I talked to other veterinary offices and they all said absolutely that a catheter and an IV would be used during any surgery and not at any extra cost to the client. I find it appalling that after charging $400+ dollars for a spay that they try to charge $70 something for an IV and catheter to be included. Why wouldn't that be included with the surgery protocol and charge? Also I have called multiple times for sedatives and have still not received them. I was told on Friday afternoon that they would try to get it done before 5pm, and if not then then definitely Saturday morning. I called and called again to no answer, and no response to voicemails left. It's now Sunday and I have a 6 month old puppy who is running and jumping, risking tearing her stitches open. They also said these sedatives were optional. How are you supposed to keep a puppy from running and jumping? I heard sedatives are given at other places after any surgery, to keep animals calm and let them heal. Thanks a lot McKinleyville Animal Care Center. I will absolutely never be coming back and I will let everyone know what a poor experience I had.
