I was set to camp and paddle Navarro Beach, but devastating weather forced a closure as I was in transit. I am so happy Angel helped me get checked in after a long, wet day and made sure I was placed in a room with a view of my truck loaded with camping supplies, including my kayak. He and this hotel turned an uncertain episode into a night where I could relax and recharge for the next day's adventures. Awesome location, and I recommend Gnar Bar for some of the best noodles you'll get in NorCal.

Absolutely beautiful rustic hotel from the California Gold rush/Logging era. originally a saloon and brothel. It has a classic atmosphere that takes you back in time. A place like this is very special, I know it has its leaks and what not. From what I understand they want to remodel the hotel, Please for the love of all things good KEEP IT ORIGINAL for the most part. I understand maybe adding some things to some rooms but what really keeps this place special in my opinion in its classic atmosphere. So please do what you need to do but please KEEP IT ORIGINAL!!!!!!!! My wife and I loved it and we are very young.

I think the budget rooms with shared bathrooms are wonderful - I've stayed several times and they were always clean and cozy, providing things like toiletries and clean bathrobes. The lobby is spacious and great to work from, the hotel is located in one of the best locations in Mendocino. They are undergoing a renovation soon, I hope they hold on to the budget rooms - I think it's an excellent deal, I always opt to stay here when visiting Mendocino because it's so cost effective, the budget room pricing justifies my splurging on restaurants. Would I like their restaurant to open? Absolutely. But there are plenty of restaurant nearby, so it doesn't really bother me all that much. I haven't noticed anything run down in any of the rooms I've stayed in, I've stayed in four different rooms.

Never had a hotel exceed my expectations the way this one did. I chose it for the price, you can spend lots to stay in Mendocino if you choose. Wonderful old building with exquisite woodwork. Real wood furniture in the rooms made by people(long dead) who knew how to use a chisel and a plane. I can hear the ocean from the bed or see it if I step out into the deck. If you are looking for cookie cutter sameness go elsewhere. Mendocino is really really nice.

The place was on the ocean view but the Hotel is on the old side , needs updating. There's no AC on this hotel at all . Some bedrooms have shared bathrooms on the hallways that's the down fall if you're not reading all the descriptions. We were lucky during our stay that we ask to be switch into a bedroom with attached bathroom. Keys don't work right too.

For what it was, it was an interesting stay. It's definitely seen better days and I can't help but think how great it was when the restaurant was busy and it was full of life. The room we stayed at was small but definitely clean. It was interesting to stay at a hotel that didn't have a TV in the room. Overall, it was a nice trip. The concierge was friendly and helpful and the ambiance was nice! Felt transported into a different time.

The staff is friendly, no debating that. The location is gorgeous, no doubt about that. The hotel restaurant and bar is closed, but with so much in walking distance it worked out fine. The fact we can have our dog—great! The room itself is not good. No AC makes sense since it’s on the coast, but no fans? No fridge? Creepy photos on the walls? It seems like we’re going to be haunted by Victorian ghosts in the middle of the night! Also there are holes in the wall stuffed with tissue. Everything is very dingy, old and cramped. A few updates could make this place really lovely.

It's a really cool historic hotel, and it shows its age in some ways (room was a little musty). It was a bummer that the beautiful bar and restaurant were closed and barricaded.Great location close to everything!

We used to love to stay there. It had a sort of shabby grandeur. But now that it has been purchased by a new owner and is "waiting for refurbishment" they have decided not to take care of it anymore. The "garden" is all dead. The hotel bar and restaurant are closed until after rehab. Our room was hilarious. Everything was broken. The fireplace, the hairdryer, the pendulum clock on the wall, the lamps, the peeling wallpaper, even the marble tops were missing from the nightstands. It was a wreck. We were given ONE blanket for three people in two beds. I had to walk to the front desk (almost two blocks away) to ask for more, and then had to carry them back to the room myself. Sadly, this place is over.

Lovely historical building needs a serious facelift and cleaning. It was super dirty in the lobby and I could see piles of dirt as we walked in on the floor. The room was not terribly comfortable but was fine for an overnight stay. For $200 I expected a lot more. The location is primo but they really need to invest in this place. It feels like it is serious decay.

Beautiful old hotel from the big timber days that is located directly on the main strip in mendo town. It's dog friendly for a fee and the staff is available 24 hours of awesomeness. The structure is old and classy but also needs a lot of structural work and looks a bit shabby these days but we aren't picky it's still pretty neat. The rooms are very tight and be warned that the European rooms all share common bathrooms located in the center corridor. There is minimal ventilation and the rooms can get very stuffy. Overall the price is right and they're dog friendly and the staff is great even if the neat old building is a little run down and uncomfortable. If you're a fancy person you'll turn your nose up a bit. If you're laid back and not a Karen you'll adore the place and be back multiple times like us.

Great old timey experience. But it is old and all the restuarant and bar services were under construction at the time. Our room had a door leading out to the front balcony, looking down on the water. Very pretty. Trails by the water within walking distance. Loved it!

The hotel itself is well-kept the room, small, but well appointed. We overlooked the ocean and had a balcony. Don't believe the photos. We were assured when we made our reservations that there was a full bar and dining room on the premises. This was important to us as my husband health is compromised.Cathy was on the desk and is very nice. When I asked her about handicapped parking she located a space and provided an orange cone. When we arrive we were notified that the Bar and Restaurant were closed and had been closed for three years. In addition, I was made aware that only second floor rooms were available, and although they did not have aBellhop there would be someone to help with the luggage. Upon arrival When I questioned the fact that I had been assured that the bar and restaurant were open, and that I had read the menu online, she apologized and said that they had a new hire. I told her that I had contacted the hotel directly and surely they could see that the restaurant and bar were closed. She said that the hotel had recently changed hands and didn't elaborate any further. Because my husband is disabled, it was important to us to have food and beverage on site. All in all it has great potential. Just not there yet.

Our bed was hard! Staff fine, but not much help with knowledge of where to eat. We were here three nights.Historical hotel, but admittedly I expected more for the price we paid. I learned...next time Fort Bragg.* might be helpful depending on where one's room is located to have the staff draw lines indicating where your room is in reference to the lobby.
