Owner takes too long to return your item. Still waiting after 10 weeks ago on mailing my bible to him. SMH.

Having had experience here in the past, I was shocked to see some of the reviews for this business. So today I went in to see for myself what was going on. An elderly gentleman met me at the door. And going in I saw that there was plenty of work waiting to be done. The man told me his name was Michael, and as we talked I realized he was suffering from a form of Alzheimer’s. He himself said that he could not remember things from the past 10 years but he had very good memory of things before that. Perhaps he is not living in his prime any longer. And perhaps if you have a book there to be bound, you may want to pick it up because I am not sure he can remember to get it done by any certain date. He did mention that he has a partner that works there also, and that he was in the business for 50 years. So I’m guessing he’s got to be pretty old too. Extend this business some grace and realize it’s heyday may have been in the past.

Over the years I’ve had several books and Bibles restored by The Book Craftsman. Their work should be labelEd art because that is what it is.

I cannot comment on quality or price of work because we didn't get that far. The owner (Mike?) is a grumpy, old man intent on spreading misery. My girlfriend called during his normal business hours and asked a simple question. He mumbled something rude and hung up on her.We weren't expecting 5-star, luxury service, but how about at least 2 stars worth? Nope. We've already thrown away his number and will go elsewhere. Time for him to retire if he can't be civil on the phone.

When you click on the link for this business the link takes you to a blogger, not to the book store. Does the store have a website?

I had them bind three loose leaf manuscripts. They did a marvelous job. So, I am preparing three more for them to make "beautiful."

Excellent workmanship! Had a couple books repaired/rebound here. They turned my tattered tomes into elegant heirlooms.

If I could give a "no star" rating I would. I felt compelled to write a Yelp review to lament a once reputable business that provided a unique and in-demand service, The Book Craftsman, which was written about several times in the local newspapers. I had a couple of old, first edition books done there many years ago and the work done was superb. However, over the years, something happened - drastically happened - that caused this place to become one of the worst businesses I have ever encountered, and I have encountered a lot of poorly run businesses. First and foremost: This place is NEVER open, even when it is supposed to be open, it is not. Second, its hours are insanely ridiculous, if they are the right hours: 7-11 a.m. Tuesdays through Saturday. This, of course, is what their telephone answering machine says, because NO ONE EVER ANSWERS THE PHONE AT BOOK CRAFSTMAN! The hours on Book Craftsman's Facebook page say the business is open from 9 am to noon and then from 1-4 pm I live in Mentone, and have driven by the shop many times on a daily basis between the hours 9 and 11 a.m. and HAVE NEVER SEEN THE PLACE OPEN! I guess the place is only open when it doesn't intervene with the owner's nap time or favorite daytime soap operas, hence, it is never open. And looking at all the horrible reviews about the shoddy workmanship and owner holding people's prized heirlooms and treasures hostage for months and years, I will no longer even attempt to patronize this place. Of course, the person who opened the neighboring American Book Art, who I understand was a former employee of Book Craftsman, is no longer open. That business was very short lived, yet for some reason, I cannot understand why American Book Art, which developed a fine reputation in its short-lived life, went out of business while the essentially dead-on-the-vine Book Craftsman remains open. SUGGESTION: You can find a plethora of competent book binders on Craigslist, who will likely provide quality service at a fraction of what Book Craftsman charged for inferior service and poor quality. Avoid The Book Craftsman like the plague, or you will find yourself knee-deep in frustration, so much so that it will make you want to throw your books out the window!

I had books repaired an they do a good job but their hours of operation makes them extremely unaccessible and completely uncompatible with the normal hours of clients . Who has 7 to 11 am available? and they don't open on wekends
