Inept technicians -- go with another company. We have a Valor gas fireplace that started acting up (delayed ignition, sometimes went out on its own, explosive fireball within the glass). We called Fireplace Safety Services to help fix the problem and give us confidence that it was safe to use. The technician that came out did not know how to open our fireplace (despite it being a fairly common model) and asked for the manual. I accidentally handed him the French manual, and he got a little upset. Rather than asking me to look for the English manual or searching online for instructions, he just changed the batteries in the controller, turned it on/off 20 times or so, and then told me it was "probably fine". He then wrote me an invoice that said "It would be a good idea to keep English manual on hand" and charged me $330. After they left, we left the fireplace lit again for 15 minutes, and the same problems occurred (fire died on its own, then fireballed). We then had another company (Eco Tech) come out. The other company immediately identified that the chimney termination cap was broken so wind was coming into the chimney and causing our problems. They knew how to open the fireplace without a manual, and they checked everything for us to make sure there weren't any additional problems and then cleaned up the dust and glass from inside. Don't waste your time with Fireplace Safety Services. They barely knew how to service our fireplace let alone ensure it was safe to use.

FSS rehabbed the wood burning fireplace in our house to make it safe to use. It's been a couple of years since then and their work has held up flawlessly. They even came back out to address a rattling wind shield a few months after their initial visit at no charge.

I've been working with the team at Fireplace Safety for many years now and wouldn't dream of working with anyone else for my fireplace needs. They are honest, responsive, professional and knowledgeable. And really nice! Thank you, Hugh, Lisa and rest of your team.

People should know that this business is a shame. It's owned by the owner of London Chimney Services and he doesn't want people to know because he's trying to scam the community. He has a horrible reputation as "owner" at London and if people knew he owned Fireplace Safety Services too, they wouldn't go to them either. The sad thing is the people who work at both companies are great and are the ones that carry the businesses and their reputation for their work, but the owner has them competing against each other for work to ensure he gets the bids whether through London or Fireplace Safety. This is a very shadely person to deal with. Watch out and be forewarned.

Since fires seem to be a sensitive topic nowadays, I thought it might be a good idea to have my wood burning fireplace inspected. My realtor recommended Fireplace Safety Services as the company she uses for inspections and repairs. Hugh came out and told me the levels of inspection he would do according to what he saw. He decided to use a camera to see if there was any damage in the fireplace. He showed me the pictures and recommended not using the fireplace until I decided to fix it or install an insert. There were plenty of gaps in the mortar and this could definitely cause a fire. The company is going to send me an estimate for repairing the gaps and also an estimate for installing an insert. The price for the thorough inspection was $225 and totally worth it. If you just use your fireplace and do not know what condition it is in, it would be a good idea to have it checked out. I would have never known that my fireplace was a hazard. I also highly recommend Fireplace Safety Services as a company you can trust.

Excellent everything --- from scheduling through completion! Brian and his colleague arrived on time, protected the work area from soot, gave sensible advice and were pleasant. The rate seemed reasonable to me and in line with competitors I had checked. Bravo!

A great service for those who have no idea about basic maintenance of a fireplace. Not only was the unit finally serviced, it was cleaned, inspected, and tested to perform efficiently. Hugh the technician, was professional, courtesy, and helpful in providing us a better understanding of the operations of our Gas fireplace. For what it cost us to have our fireplace service, it was well worth it.

Really happy with the quality of the work from this company, as well as the service from beginning to end. We live in an Inner Sunset condo where most of the original fireplaces installed in the 1970's used inferior parts and improper caps, leading to rusting over time. Hugh and his team were able to retrofit our existing unit to code, and install a brand new gas insert that now heats our entire home and provides unbeatable ambiance. They were all a pleasure to work with!

Company has been extremely busy and first available appointment was 4-6wks out! Had almost decided to cancel and wait until next season but glad decided to wait. Hugh who came was extremely professional in helping fix our pilot light on our old gas fireplace. Timely arrival and courteous in keeping the workspace very clean and tidy. He noted our fireplace set up had not been done correctly by the previous owners but helped adjust it as best as possible and cleaning the area. Gave very helpful advice regarding the replacement logs and other materials we needed and affordable alternatives. Also he helped do a quick inspection of our other fireplaces to review the set up which was much appreciated!

These guys are great. Frank came over to my house to inspect my fireplace and chimney and he gave great recommendations, and was super professional. He didn't try to sell me on anything I didn't need or want, but just gave an honest assessment. I highly value companies, that employ honest people that just don't want to sell you something. I'd highly recommend London Chimney, and not just cleaning, but for giving you options about replacing/repairing your old fireplace.

Can't recommend these guys more highly. We recently had a beautiful Valor Windsor Arch Fireplace installed in our Victorian apartment and it looks great!! Hugh provided us with a very reasonable estimate (much cheaper than Okells, Warm solutions and all the other companies we explored servicing San Francisco). Alex and Bryan came and did the install and were professional, courteous, paid excellent attention to detail, and managed a tricky work around for the gas line which we were convinced wouldn't fit with the unit. They even ducked to the hardware store to buy a required fixture so they could complete the whole job in one go. Big thank you to the whole team here!!

I contacted this company to convert my woodburning fireplace to gas logs. Upon inspection, they found that my fireplace had serious cracks in the tiles, was a fire hazard in its present condition and needed repairs before I could use it again (either for wood or gas logs). They wrote up a formal report and itemized what was needed. Although the repairs were costly, their bid was in line with other services and I felt that they were very honest. I now have a wonderful fire going in my hearth. And I can't say enough positive things about this company. Other businesses could learn valuable lessons from the excellent professional service and fine customer care they provided me, including help and advice in choosing my logs, fitting me into their busy schedule when there was a cancellation, communicating with me and showing up on time. They were highly competent and curteous and they went out of their way to accomodate all my needs. I dealt with 3 service people (and their helpers) and two office staff. I give them all 5 stars. Fireplace Safety Services came by to inspect my chimney in San Francisco (in the Inner Sunset), gave me a clear explanation of the work needed and a quote, and then promptly scheduled a time to do the repairs. The work was top quality and efficiently done, and in talking to the guys who came out to do the repairs it is clearly a well run company that treats its workers well. Highly recommend them.
