The staff at Miller Sloat is downright amazing. I asked them to order a bunch of Venus Fly Traps for me (kids birthday party favors). They weren't my first call (but they will be from here on out), and a few other places I tried told me they were too hard to order in quantity. Sloat said no problem and ordered them the next day. The plants arrived a few weeks earlier than I needed. Instead of handing them off to me so I could do a bad job taking care of them at home, Steve (Sloat manager) offered to sell them in the store and reorder closer to my timeline. Throughout the entire process, the staff was incredibly communicative and generous. They wouldn't even take a deposit, but I am going to head down there today and insist they let me pay up front. I would give Sloat Miller 10 stars if I could.

I miss this place. When I finished my stop there, I would eat at the Chinese place next door. But I see that is a Peurto Rican place now!

Mixed. Perennial plants are generally good, although you pay more for them (it's worth it for a healthy plant and a better variety of plant types.) vegetable starts are very poor. Purchased a tomato start labeled "early girl" this year when I didn't have time to do seeds and it turned out to be a "bush early girl." If Sloat had correctly labeled it, I wouldn't have bought, planted and tended it, as bush early girl flavor is inferior. (Other gardeners in the MV community plot also purchased bush early girl plants mislabeled as early girl.) Also bought Little Gem starts and two of the six immediately died. Go somewhere else if you're looking for vegetables. For the same prices, Green Jeans has healthier vegetable starts that are planted in bigger 6 pack cells.

Wonderfully helpful staff and a great selection of terracotta pots keep me coming back. The plants here are much better cared for than those at big box stores and always look very happy to me!

I'm am amending the below review after the management team at Sloat Garden Center contacted me to make things right. I really appreciate that. I'm a small business owner also and know how hard it is to get employees to represent the values of the owner/management team. Everyone screws up. The question is how the response is handled. I appreciated their truly concerned follow ups. All we can do is try to learn from our mistakes and fix them. Thank you. Had the strangest and most unpleasant customer service experience there this morning. Would never go again. A few weeks ago I'd talked to someone name Sarah, apparently at a different Sloat location. We'd made all kinds of arrangements to have several Norfolk pines delivered to me and she was going to call me back. Never heard a word. So this morning I went to the MV location and went up to a short, rough looking middle aged woman and asked if there was a Sarah who worked here. "Who wants to know," she said gruffly, with a hard look. I was a bit taken aback by the hostile tone and just said, "I do." To which she said, "well, I have no idea who you are so why would I give you information about who works here?" Okay, wow. Pretty outrageous way to start. So I explained and she said, "well, there's no Sarah here." In other words, there wasn't even anyone there with that name that she was presumably protecting from me - a customer. Then she looked at me, annoyed that I was annoyed, and said, "so, what do you want?" So I gathered myself and figured I was here so let me try to put an order together. I explained I was looking for two good sized Norfolk Pines to plant in my front yard. She took me back to see them and I started asking question about best planting times, etc. Her tone had settled down by then but still, the vibe was, why are you bothering me? She then called out another guy, who instead of really answering my questions about the Norfolk Pines simply suggested I should get something else. So I just gave up and left. Wow! Way to go team in driving someone who would have spent a grand out of your business. For what? For asking if there was a Sarah here. Why would that woman give me so much trouble for asking about a person who doesn't even work there? Who knows...but you can kiss one customer goodbye.

Super helpful worker. Dan was so patience to explain to me about what they had there and what would be ok for my area. He was willing to ship merchandise to my garden store.

Everything you need for gardening. Excellent staff that is really knowledgeable about products and growing things — specifically the grow zones in the area. TIP: If they don’t have it — they can order it for you.
