First, I must qualify my statement by saying I am a medical professional, and a former Marine Corpsman having taken care of sick/wounded Marines for 6 years. I went to Memorial emergency room here in Modesta early in the morning, complaining of severe upper abdominal pain and chest pain. The check-in person asked me why I was there and I told her I was a medical professional and I believed I was having a heart attack. She told me the wait was 11 hours and to go sit with everybody else. I told her I don't believe I have even one hour to live let alone alone 11. I asked her, "are you telling me to leave here and go to another hospital?" Answer, "again, you can sit down and to wait 11 hours like everyone else." She proceeded to tell me seek care elsewhere. I called Uber again. The driver was a former Marine and rushed me to Doctor's Hospital where I had a NSTEMI with troponins of 15,000 indicating a large part of the heart muscle was being damaged. I was rushed to the Cardiac Cath Lab where my major coronary artery, the LAD, was found to be 100% occluded. It was subseqently dilated and stented by the damage had been done. A few days later, I called and filed a patient complaint with patient relations. First, they said I was never there. Second, she told me it had to go to patient safety because it was a significant event, and they will have video to show if I was there or not , I have Uber receipts to prove it. I was contacted by the nurse manager from Memorial Hospital today. She informed me the story of the woman told her was quite different even though they have no audio of it on the video tape that did show I was there and had left and going to another hospital. Must take a lot for someone determine that her story was much more convincing. The manager asked me, "what do you wish to accomplish here?" Are you kidding me! Your highly trained check-in people let someone who was having a major myocardial infarction with troponins of 15,000 walk out the door. How about, "we are sorry we were so negligent to not have admistered immediate care to you." Yes, that must be really hard to admit. Most ER's have highly trained people who can triage patients, especially those in extremeis. Apparently, the staff at this ER lack any basic knowledge about medicine and only see themselves as power hungry gatekeepers. Maybe Memorial Hospital could post the check-in women's credentials and qaulifications and I will post mine and see who might have the best knowledge base, experience, as well as is aware of their own body's medical issues. By looking at the reviews I can see that I am just one of many that have had poor experiences here. Just save yourself some time, and maybe your life, and go to Doctor's Hospital because they seem to be able to recognize someone that is acutely ill! Note to Memorial Hospital: Don't waste your time responding!

Dissatisfied overall with checking in to waiting. Very insensitive employees who work in ER.

I went to the ER about a month ago.. and I tested positive for the flu. I still haven't gotten better and add on top of it I've been getting super dizzy and bad headaches. I'm still coughing up mucus and can barely swallow I literally been suffering.. they had told me before they couldn't prescribe anything for the flu. But now I feel like it maybe strep or some other infection if I still have that terrible pain. If I don't take ibuprofen I'm horrible. They told me to come back if it gets worse and I went back today after work, and the lady told me to go to the window and check in it was around 5:00pm and the guy (nurse) with glasses just stared at me and looked at me like I was fucking stupid and basically made me feel unwelcome. I know they're busy, but it's literally your job. You went to school for that bud no reason to give attitude.. You don't like it..? Quit. Because they just lost lots of money on me. I came to Oak Valley in Oakdale instead. They called my phone, but just ignored it because what will they do..? They'll always have their teams back. This review probably means nothing to them..

They offer pretty good care, the staff has been pretty helpful and efficient. The wait time was to be expected for a ER.

I'm still waiting for my medical test results two days later. They expect me to pay for the tests but won't provide the results or have a doctor discuss them with me. What's wrong with you people? I finally had to go to my family doctor to get him to get the test results and they even stonewalled him.

I'm writing this at 2:12am. Me and my husband arrived four hours ago. Still waiting to have a scan to make sure he doesn't have a blood clot. I have never seen the ER so crowded. Is there only one doctor working trying to take care of 100 people? I do not blame the friendly staff, nurses, and doctors. I blame the guys higher up, that only care about profit instead of people and their health. These poor poor people are feeling so sick and having to wait hours and hours. shame on you!

I have no words of how this place runs . It's very disappointing that we trust a hospital that does not care for the pain of a patient that comes in crying for a non stop painful injury that happen at home. They lie to the patients family right in their face trying to discharge as fast as possible to not deal with them. My mom was picked up by ambulance on 12/7/2023 as she woke up with an unexplainable pain injury she had went through previously. She felt like her arm/ shoulder was torn off and was in major pain. When she was brought in she was put in the hallway, around 11ish about to be midnight.... As they seen her in pain not until I got there they started to listen to me as I observed the facility I just seen staff chit chatting and laughing while walking by not respecting the fact that there's people in there because a type of pain or illness I found it very disrespectful medical staff just passing by and her sobbing and crying over pain on her shoulder. I started to get anxious myself seeing my mother in those conditions I am 6 months pregnant myself and felt sick to my stomach, once I asked the nurse can we atleast get some pain medicine it had to get through approval by doctors. Once she got medication I stepped out for some fresh air and left to sit and rest, since it was a very disturbing location my mom was at and stressful feeling I felt. I had to leave cause I felt sick myself after being in there , once I came back at 8ish in the morning I was notified that she was being discharged, no real diagnostic was given just "chronic pain on her right shoulder" my mom shared with me there was 2 doctors that went to talk to her and one of them sharing with her that her shoulder was probably broken not to leave the ER. Once I was able to speak to the nurse I asked how am I suppose to take her home with no pain meds or some type of reassurance of what to do. They kept saying I'm must speak to the primary doctor and wait on previous MRI results, and request for a pain medication. When the nurse return they told me that they WERE sending her with Hydrocodone pain meds I confirmed that they sent the medication to her pharmacy and they said yes ...as we left after discharge on my way back home I called the pharmacist to make sure they started it on the medication , the pharmacist I spoke to said yes the Hydrocodone will be ready an a hour. Later that night when my brother tried picking it up they stated there was never a medication with that name put in by any doctor. At this point I am very confused and upset of what to do , we had to find and go to another alternative of medication to help my mother with her pain. It seems that until someone says the word patient advocate they seem to care more about a patients health care. If I could rate this the most awful experience and zero star I would .

So, 8 years out from Neal's death, I'm providing a review. Neal was in ICU for like 5 days. Tons of people showed up to support us. Medical staff let us hang out with him in his room. There were like 20 of us standing around Neal, singing worship songs, which oddly made his heart rate decrease. Clearly, he knew we were there praying for his healing as we wanted him to remain in our lives. Neal's nephew, Cameron, showed up with Bay leaves to place on his forehead. Neal loved the Bay tree. Had one planted on the back 40 which didn't survive, thank you flood of 2017. I am thankful Cameron griffin remembered that and brought some leaves for Neal. I still have them. The managing nurse visited me to ensure everything was in place. The managing nurse happened to be a former friend of Neal's and an employee of Modesto City Schools. How does that happen? How does someone have the energy to be both a nursing teacher with MCS and an employee of Memorial Hospital? I'm really blown away.

Dr Altman is an absolute pleasure! All the staff that helped me went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and safe. I felt cared for my entire stay. I was very scared for my procedure but they reassured me and made the experience a positive one. OR atmosphere was non stressful with nice music playing, doctor did an amazing job and the staff for my recovery were always on top of my needs and understanding. Very happy with the care I received in OR and recovery. Would definitely recommend for OB needs.

1/10 would not recommend. I brought a 72 year old family member here due to breathing complications related to a procedure performed here by their doctors. 7 hours later, we're still in the waiting area of the emergency room. He hasn't seen a doctor or been called back. We had to ask that the automatic doors be turned on instead of being locked in the open position due the cold. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that since they left a 75 year old woman with a head trauma and open wound on her head wait for 5 hours that they wouldn't see a 72 year old man that recently had a procedure here wait with labored and irregular breathing. They're quick about sending you the bill, but take forever to see you.

Very grateful for the excellent care from Dr. Sweeney, Gurpreet RN, Jessica RN, and Ramon RCT! Dr. Sweeney listened and showed he cared. He made some very important decisions and brought my family member back to a normal heart rhythm. He explained everything throughly and asked us if we had any questions. Given how many patients were there, I was pleasantly surprised to receive such great communication from the entire team. Gurpreet RN, Jessica RN, and Ramon RCT were very compassionate and showed their clinical expertise. They were very attentive to my family member, explained everything and answered all of our questions. I thank them for this and for making my family member feel safe and genuinely cared for.

The ER is horrible. Waited 7 hours to finally get called back to talk to someone. Then had to wait another 5 hours to go over blood results and discharge. 12 Hours for an ER visit for blood work and urine sample, is ridiculous.

This hospital disgusts me. If you have no family to help or advocate for you do not go here. My father is an insulin dependent diabetic who needed foot care and surgery due to diabetes. He was admitted and needing an MRI to determine the extent of surgery. For 2.5 days he waited and only received it when he threatened to check out. Last night he was told he would have surgery at 8:00AM so he couldn't have any food or water after 6:00PM. His surgery was then bumped to noon and then to 6:300PM. I spoke with patient advocate, Jenny, who stated the nurse said he wasn't having issues. I told her it was incorrect. He was only receiving 1/6 of the amount of insulin he usually did. He was getting ill from it and having a difficult time getting insulin, his foot bandaged and even soap, for hours after he would ask. I had to finally buy and deliver his soap to shower. After all of these issues I received a call from my father at 7:30PM stating they did mot have food for him. Almost 26 hours with no food or water and they couldn't keep food for him. I spoke with a supervisor, John, who stated that they don't keep trays of food. They will find something, but it won't be substantial and they'll monitor my dad's insulin levels. Really? This is a Disgusting way to treat patients. We are taking food to my dad. What happens to patients who have no family? Is this how they would want their family members treated? My dogs are treated better than this! There is absolutely NO excuse for the lack of care and thought on these "health care professionals'" parts. Shame on you Memorial!!! I pray your parents are treated better than this! He needs another MRI. If Anything happens to my father due to their lack of thought, planning or honestly, what appears to be them stalling to charge insurance more, it won't simply be calls or posts I will be making. I have stood behind health care professionals, always, but not after this.
