The RVT Lauren S. is so fantastic with animals— such a kind and patient demeanor and has handled our senior cat with such attentiveness and care. She always explains everything to us in great detail and has a calming demeanor. The clinic does get very busy on some days so there is a bit of a chaotic energy but Lauren’s bedside manner is somehow completely immune to this. We are always thrilled when she is our assigned vet tech!

It's good and great customer service, but in my personal experience, it's expensive! It's good that you get unlimited regular check ups but to get a diagnose, you have to pay out of pocket we are talking about $600 for blood work and more for x-rays. Yet I wasn't able to get a diagnose on my feline. I had to make my own research (priceless) to know what my feline had. Took my feline to a low cost vet ($250) and immediately they were able to let me know he had feline asthma, and he was finally able to get the appropriate treatment. Now he is doing much better.

Extremely over scheduled. I made an appointment for 11am on a Monday. Came in 10 minutes early as instructed. They didn’t see my cat until it was already noon. If they’re not going to see their patients in time then what’s the point of making an appointment?

I always appreciate the care and kindness of Dr. Shaw at VCA Santa Anita. The entire staff clearly loves animals and do their best to make them feel special.I do feel like the organization does take vet care to the extreme with the “just to be sure” tests.I do appreciate the care club and feel that it was beneficial for the kittens that we adopted. They were well cared for and are now solid, healthy cats.

One of the best animal hospitals. My pet is being treated amazingly. The staff is friendly and the doctors are very nice and amazingly professional. Love and recommend this place for your fur babies.

Editing this review: Updated from a 1 star to a 5. I'm leaving the below review intact because I think it's important new patients know to avoid this doctor, but after calling and speaking with Dee today I'm confident this was a one off and won't happen again. Again, I'd like to give credit to Dr. Pau and the rest of the staff for being fantastic. Original review: Do not see Dr. Ta. We've been coming here for years, and were always willing to put up with the kinda high prices because we always felt like our pets were getting the highest quality care. Dr. Pau has always been fantastic with our cats, and the staff has always been friendly and professional. But we just took our new dog (1 year old Husky) in for a check because she has a cough and is a little thin (just got her from a shelter so figured it was best to get her checked) and were shocked by how rude Dr Ta was. Not only was he condescending and dismissive with my wife and I, but he was terrible with our dog. Without even bothering to try and make her feel comfortable he grabbed her face, and then acted like she was unfriendly or aggressive because she flinched back and retreated to my wife. Didn't bother to complete the exam of her throat and just said "yeah must be kennel cough" and prescribed meds. When I tried to talk to him about her diet, he literally said to me "information is on the can or you can look it up online", like I don't know that. To top it all off he was also rude with his assistant, dismissing her like a servant when he no longer needed her help. I'm not sure if I'll be going back after this experience. I've always felt they were pricy but it was worth it, but this was ridiculous. I don't know if this doctor is just scared of big dogs, didn't like my wife and I, or was having a bad day, but I have never been treated so poorly by a vet in my life. Special shootout to his assistant and the staff. Not sure how they deal with this guy on a daily basis if he's as rude with them as he was to us.

DESPICABLE RECEPTIONIST! called to inform them to take me off mailing list as mydog had just passed and she just asked,“what’s the phone number?” then i gave it to her she said she’ll update it and hung up. NO sympathy, no condolences!! nothing! she was absolutely cold during one of my lowest moments of grief. will never ever return or recommend them.

i have never spoken to someone who works with animals and was so incredibly cruel on cold!!!i called to inform them that i no longer needed to be on the mailing list as my dog had passed away. all the women said was, "okay what's the phone number?" once i have it to her she said she'll update the file and hung up. she did not offer ANY condolences whatsoever, NOTHING. i'm in the midst of grieving my 17 year old baby and i was shocked and horrified at her lack of empathy. WILL NEVER COME BACK OR RECOMMEND THEM!

I made an appointment for a specific blood test for my dog. I called twice to make sure they could complete the blood test after his 1st-time patient exam. I show up early for our appointment and the vet said it was too late in the day for the blood test which requires monitoring even after I confirmed it twice. I fasted my pet for over 16 hours to make this appointment. The Vet kept pushing for additional tests we didn't need as I am already seeing a UC Davis vet and just needed a blood test for a follow-up. When I asked the vet tech to please remove the additional tests he ran out to the vet- I could hear the discussing what to respond to convince us we needed the extra urinary test even though he just had one 2 months prior. The vet tech frantically ran back into the room to try and explain what the vet said instead of just speaking with us directly. Not one employee bothered reading the pages of medical records I sent 2 months prior to my appointment- so 3 different staff members asked me to explain my pets lengthy medical history. They wanted to charge almost $700 for a test that only costs $450 anywhere else. Ultimately they asked me to drive back the next morning for the blood test but I found a better vet close by. The visit took over an hour and a half and they charged me $109 to completely waste my time.

This place is welcoming for first time pet owners and pet owners with not a lot of experience. Just be cautious, the pricing for their services is straight up pricey and they are pushy on selling things you don't need. I used this vet because the shelter I adopted my pup from recommended this place which was closer to my home.I will not be coming back and will be going back to the vet I been taking my pets to in Orange, CA for the last 6 years. The 30 mile drive is worth it. I'm sorry if you deal with the young female Caucasian vet technician. She does not introduce herself to you and seems like she does not want to be there. If you're miserable at work, perhaps change your job!

And! I just came back with my VERY elderly cat, and Dr. Ta and tech Julian were so kind and gentle with her! They explained ways I could monitor her wellness and hydration levels at home, and discussed the possible various situations we may be facing as she ages. I insisted they keep this picture for her file, she's actually very loving!

This is a LOOOONG post, but it could save you thousands of dollars.I have been taking my dog to this VCA for several years. Dr. Shaw was very caring and took good care of Mick. Mick was a street rescue and she was always wonderful with him. I seldom out of there for less than a few hundred dollars but she wasn't an alarmist and let me know the best options for him because our income was limited. During COVID, I wasn't able to see her and the vets I did see were recommending more and more "important" treatments and procedures for him. He had developed a lump on his upper back leg and "cancer possibility" was being thrown around. They did a few cytologys of it the last couple of years, each of them concluding it was a fatty cyst. It didn't bother Mick or interfere with his movement. In June 2022 I took him in for another routine exam (by the way, these "routine" exams were costing more and more because of "necessary" tests) and Dr. Pauline Pau at VCA Santa Anita really went to town telling me the dangers of not removing that cyst. She actually said it was a difficult procedure and the cyst, if not removed, could cause damage to his leg muscles. It was a "very involved"surgery and required several tests first, but she would be glad to get him in right away. She then told me that if the cyst burst, there was no telling the damage it would do to his leg! Of course she had me very concerned. She also wanted him to go to a dog cardiologist first because of his heart murmur (stage two). I have included a copy of her estimate ($3000-3755.00 BEFORE the cardiologist). Did I mention we aren't wealthy? I told her I would watch the cyst and see if it grew before I could make a decision. I was trying to figure out ways to get this money together since, being a senior citizen, I had had some very expensive dental procedures and money was tight. Meanwhile, the last few months I have gotten several emails from VCA saying how important it was for me to bring him in (not specifically from this doctor). I noticed Mick's cyst was looking worse and decided to get a second opinion. FANS OF VCA, if you are being told your dog needs surgery and several tests first, do yourself a favor and get a second opinion. I did a lot of research and chose Cypress Animal Hospital. I took all the VCA paperwork in to Dr. Swindoll there. She seemed shocked at the estimate but was very professional and didn't diss VCA. She did a thorough exam (a stage two heart murmur is very mild and doesn't warrant a visit to the cardiologist). She checked the cyst and had VCA send over their results from the cytology - fatty cyst - checked the cyst and said, this is fully encapsulated. It doesn't impinge on the leg muscles at all. She told me she could easily remove this using a local anesthetic. It was just under the surface and, again, wouldn't affect his leg muscles. I'm thinking the VCA VET, Dr. Pau, was fully aware of this. Dr. Swindoll's estimate? $203.00!!!! I set up the appointment but the day before the surgery, the cyst burst! According to the VCA vet I saw, this could have terrible consequences!! I called Cypress Animal Hospital and they worked him in under their urgent care. The surgery involved a little more clean up - again, no harm to his leg muscles at all - and out the door, my cost was $218!!! (Bill attached). By the way, Mick is doing great, his leg is healing beautifully, and he's running and playful and happy. It is shameful if Dr. Pau was playing on my emotions and love for my dog to try to pull a stunt like that. Hard to believe this wasn't an intentional moneygrab. I loved VCA, too - caring, clean, professional - but at a prohibitive, extremely inflated cost. If you've got buckets of money to spend, then go there because they'll be very sweet to your pet. If your income is limited and you still want a caring doctor - you might want to check out Cypress Animal Hospital or one of other family owned vets. Tell Dr. Swindoll I sent you.

I have been bringing my dog Perla to VCA Santa Anita for few years now.We come here because of world class veterinarian - Dr. Jeffrey Najarian. He is absolutely amazing! He knows everything there is about dogs, he is an amazing surgeon, and he is a wonderful human being, always kind, warm, always having time and patience. He is one of these extraordinary people who even though so much more busier than others - always has time to help, think, and enhance lives of everyone around. My dog Perla adores him!In addition, today we met the most amazing vet assistant here! Her name is Alexis Daniels . She was kind, knowledgeable, patient, truly present, and super gentle with my dog Perla. She took time in everything needed and she had the most beautiful smile on her face.We really thought that Alexis should truly be a role model for all vet assistants and customer service associates out there.
