I was just looking online to make an appointment to get my nails trimmed. My wife and I are leaving for Greece on boats and my nails look terrible
I’m a guy Who works out really doesn’t pay much attention at all to my feet until my wife says you’ve gotta get those things cleaned up.
So whenever i go to the nail salon
I’m always very impressed with their meticulous attention to detail and they do a great job for hardly any money.
I did notice online someone with a area of pus at the edge of the nail, and that person felt that this was related to the salon /some sort of infection.
That’s really not the case although I can understand someone getting that impression.
I’m an ER doctor and I see people coming in the ER all the time with this problem it’s called paronychia
-Which anyone can Google
And it’s because the edge of the nail on one side of the other is digging down deep, cutting the skin
whenever you have broken skin, which you can’t even see it disrupts the bodies protective layer
allowing of sight for bacteria to grow
Whenever the skin breaks, you will get that phenomenon

I've been going to Magic Nails for years (almost a decade), only getting pedicures and never with gel polish. I never get manicures as my nails grow super fast and there would be too much upkeep. In April I got my first gel manicure for my son's wedding. My nails looked great but the polish started flaking off within a week or two. That wasn't the problem. About six weeks ago, I went back to Magic Nails to have the gel polish removed as I had no acetate (since I never get gels) and figured they would have some. I expected they'd use acetate and safely remove the polish without damaging my nails, but I was way off. The manicurist used an electronic file and ground off most of my nails within two minutes after hearing that I did not want more gel polish. The process was painful, and I left with paper-thin, damaged nails that break and peel before they even reach the end of my nail bed and bruises on my thumbnail (in the photo). What little growth makes it past my nail bed, bends back at the slightest pressure, which gives me a 'nails on a chalkboard' feeling every time. It sounds crazy, but the experience left me feeling a little violated - having my nails in this fragile state has been awful - something I'm aware of every day. I have super strong nails that grow long and rarely chip or break - I can't imagine the state they'd be in if they were average strength. Thankfully the healthy part of my nails is about 3/4 of the way grown out so they are almost back to their normal state, but I will never go back to Magic Nails.

Once a year for 4 years I've come to visit in Monterey. It's a tradition to come to this salon for pedicures. These gals are so gentle and nice. We sure appreciate this salon.

I've been going to Magic Nails for years. I'm beginning to feel disappointed in that I am made to feel uncomfortable about the amount of tipping. I understand the want of more $. but I also worked hard. My tips have been generous and I need to think about finding a new place. Also lately the manicures are not lasting as long.

Worst service ever! The tech was very aggressive and kept making me bleed. I got gel-x and I told her there were air bubbles in the nails and they didn't feel secure. She blew me off and said it was fine. An hour after i left the nails began popping off. I will never go here again. Be careful!

A few of the ladies were really rude, then the hustle to use the ATM for a tip because the credit card machine doesn’t allow for a tip. It was all quite disappointing

I really enjoyed my pedicure but I’m surprised by how badly my manicure turned out.

I got a pedicure and it was wonderful. There was good music playing and the massage chairs were great. Great service.

This was a horrid experience. I am now looking for another nail salon in the area and came across the magic nail salon reviews and read them. I only wish I had read them before my scary experience. I too wanted to like the salon in a convenient local. I had a manicurist that ground at my nails. it was painful. She had no ideal how to correctly file nails. I wondered if she had a license to practice. That is what she did, practiced on me. The polish job is the worst I have ever had. I get my nails done on a regular basis. I have never experienced such rudeness by someone I went to for a service. Also I was charged a different price, much higher than originally quoted when i arrived at this unprofessional establishment. She also rushed through the manicure. Then she went to the back of the salon to eat as I was paying for the sad job. Why rush when your salon is almost empty, Others are smarter than I was. I am sure there are more qualified manicurists there. They are getting a bad review for just working there. I am sorry. But don't find yourself in Magic nails, it's not worth the pain and damage.

I wanted to love the place I’ve never been here before it was my first time. I was running errands and it was a convenient. Location it started off really well until it was time to paint my fingernails. The most I’ve ever paid for a Mani and a pedicure plus tip they seem very bothered as I am not a high-roller tipper compared to the rest of the community in this area. My fingernails are overfilled with nail polish. I will have to go home and get a cuticle remover to remove the extra polish around my nails really looks like I painted my nails at home. I really wanted to love the place but now I will just go to my regular sport.

Read this review - I had an excellent pedicure here and this is where the 5 stars is coming from BUT the dip I received was incredibly sloppy. It was uneven, not to the edge and really, really thick. She rushed through it and it showed.

Amazing pedicure! Clean shop and very reasonable prices. Customer service could be better, but overall, a great experience!
