The facility lacks charm but the exhibits were pretty good. In particular, the Animaldom cartoons by Jo Mora were lovely, funny and well-displayed. The best of show were the three Mora drawings from his time among the Hopi. A special treat were the watercolors of historical sites in Monterey by Zella Conan. Bad news: the museum has no printed material about the artists available in the lobby.

They deceive, they don’t say that Dali is no longer here

There is no Dali anymore in this museum. Don’t waste your time and money. When I asked the lady on the front desk if they still have Dali, she replied- “yes” but it’s not Dali museum anymore. There is absolutely no Dali except of a single picture. When you Google Monterey Dali museum the search conveniently brings you to this museum page. I didn’t make a mistake.

Seems like a lot of the Dali exhibit was gone. The mural was gone as well. The remaining works were just the aliyah collection and the divine comedy collection, definitely not what people were expecting when you hear "Dali." There were some other local artists' works upstairs, only one that was entertaining was the works by Jo Mora. For $25, it's pretty steep, that's the same price I paid to go through 7 museum floors at SFMOMA, this place has 2 house floors. I spend my sweet time at museums, and this place took me an hour and I've read every card, looked closely at every piece of work. SFMOMA took me 2 days to go through everything, this was back when they had the indoor pond for the sounds exhibit too. So a normal person can easily finish in like 15-20 minutes. Unless you tell yourself artists are poor until they die and with $25 you can support them for a cup of Joe and a sandwich, then this place aint worthwhile.

If I could, would give negative stars. Please don't spend the $. Took us 10-15 minutes to walk through. Asked the lady working if we missed something. She told us upstairs and downstairs. Questioned her regarding statues on website. Was told they were taken down 2 days ago. Highly misrepresented and disappointed. Paid $45. Please don't make same mistake. One room was nothing but gray walls. Want to see art and experience culture, go somewhere else.

Came here since it was raining and wind gusting. Enjoyed learning about Dali's seven years in Monterey, including the amazing party he threw at the Del Monte in 1941. Also thoroughly enjoyed the Jo Mora Animaldom exhibit. Wonderful display of the Sunday comics that ran 1907-1908. Allow an hour or so.

If you love Dali, you'll probably find this interesting and worth an hour or two. If you only like his 'Greatest Hits' you'll probably struggle to find this particular collection engaging. Dali was prolific and he also cranked out a lot of work that was... harder to appreciate than the iconic stuff.

An astonishingly large collection of Dali's work, including complete sets of several series. Thoughtful, informative and attractive presentation filling two floors. Don't rush, there's a lot here.

I was not aware that Dali lived in Monterey for a time. So it adds interest to the museum visit. When you own a large collection of art, it makes sense to store it in a place that is safe and non-profit. Established by a wealthy Ukrainian businessman and his wife, there are about five hundred pieces of art including some sculptures. The space is well laid out and I doubt ever crowded. There was only one other couple besides the four of us in the museum on a Monday. Most of the paintings and drawings are numbered lithographs - some xx/ out of 500. If you're a fan of Dali's art as I am, that doesn't matter. The mindset that he put himself into and the techniques he used at work where highly inventive. His painting are not for everyone, but in an area dominated by seascapes, landscapes, and still lifes, his work stands out dramatically. Even with over five hundred pieces, there is lots of variety to his work on display. Each painting is nicely described on a small placard that adds much interest to the work. It is convenient located to the large parking garage near the convention center.

This is my first time in Monterey, CA. and as soon as I saw that this exhibit existed, I knew that I had to go.We spent 2+ hours here. In complete amazement, wanderlust & more. I was blown away at how well curated this whole exhibit is. Everything was beautifully matted/framed, descriptive wall labels, and felt like a private viewing.I would highly recommend any art fans, especially those of Dali to come out & see this exhibit before it’s gone! Also, to support any of the exhibits at this awesome location.10/10

Where do I begin? To sum it up, there is nothing to see here. Do not waste your time. The first sign is there are no security guards since there is nothing of real value on display. No originals, not even one. This is way a way overpriced (should be free based on offering) mock museum.

Awesome experience! The front desk was super kind and friendly. I was beyond stoked to find this little gem in Monterey! I'm huge fan of the artist's work and was more than impressed on the size of the museum as well as what pieces it hard to offer in the galleria.
