I officially love this place! We drove from Reno to get my son diving in the ocean for the first time. From check in until we took off for the hotel, we were treated to first class service. The day was not optimal for visibility, overcast, and a bit murky but we had a fantastic time.
We’ll be making the drive over to dive with them again! DM Ian is awesome! Our captain was so full of neat dive & boat tidbits; I’d love to hear more on it next trip. And there will be a next trip!
Thank you all for a great time today.

I worked with the owner on my dry suit certification. The shop was professional and highly supportive throughout. Couldn't recommend more. I'll be back!

I went on a mess of a two-tank dive with this shop that skipped a dive briefing, failed to adhere to PADI protocols, and showed general unprofessionalism and little interest in setting expectations or resolving conflict. After our first guide failed to show up after 45 minutes, with few updates and no clarity on what happened to them, we were assigned another guide. I emphasized to her (as I had to the dive shop owner and cashier) that this was my second-ever dive after my two certification dives (in fact, I'm only leaving this review now over a year after the dive because I've had so many better experiences with other dive outfits). There was a rudimentary dive briefing for the first site but not the second site. The guide was worryingly casual and joked derisively about the mandatory paperwork she was being asked to fill out on the boat. In the water, the surge was brutal and the visibility miserable, which isn't uncommon in Monterey, and we had to curtail the dive after one of the clients panicked and had to ascend. This is obviously not the fault of the dive shop, but set the expectations that the group would surface if one diver needed to. At the second site, this time after no briefing, I became separated from the group about ten minutes in for reasons that we still disagree about. Because the dive guide was also my dive buddy, I thought that she (and the group) would surface after two minutes of trying to refind me (as PADI recommends as a best practice). They did not. I surfaced and yelled back to the boat, and the captain (also a divemaster) suggested I try to find them by following their bubbles instead of encouraging me to return to the boat. I zipped around trying to rejoin them but got entangled in kelp, and lost my p&s camera and a pocket weight in the process (I had also told the guide I hadn't used pocket weights before, and she left it to another customer to show me how to clip them in). I returned to the boat after coming free, and the dive guide greeted me cheerily and blamed me for getting lost. The captain said the lack of dive briefing was a mistake and apologized, but did not agree with my concern about the guide failing to surface after losing me. I was charged for the lost weight (which is normal practice and clearly outlined in their t&c, but a little galling given that I had asked for more help figuring out the weights and given the frankly scary circumstances of the kelp entanglement). Finally, the instructions for washing and stowing our gear after the dive were onerous and excessive compared to other shops I've dived with since (not to mention having to carry our own tanks for the surprisingly long walk from the boat back to the shop). After the whole experience, I wondered if diving might not really be for me, but I've started going out again this year with other dive shops and guides (including in CA) and found that I love diving just as much as I thought I would when I was first getting certified.

Friendly people (John = Father/Store Mgr, Hunter = Son/Captain) working hard on doing a good job in their business and helping guests. Booked a 12 noon 2-tank boat dive. On time, ran smooth. Five divers + DM + Capt. Tyler was our Divemaster and he was very professional and ready to help in any way. Dive briefing was complete and concise. Boat safety review was same. Went to buoy right off of Aquarium dropped in and visibility was horrendous, absolute sh*t, maybe 3 feet. Murk city. Did maybe 30 minute dive and Hunter brought us back to dock (5 minute commute) and then offered to try another spot but said he suspected it would be the same then . . . unbelievably . . . offered anyone local, like me since I live in Bay Area, a full VOUCHER for a future 2-tank dive. He also offered 50% REFUND to anyone who was travelling if they didnt want to try a 2nd dive since the voucher would be of no value to them. Obviously, they do not control the wind, waves or visibility. They fueled the boat, put time on the engine and spent time with us with essentially no return. As a fellow business owner I found this to be super admirable and a very customer-forward policy. I will not charter with anyone else in Monterey and highly recommend them to anyone looking to boat dive there. Hats off!

I had scheduled a dive at the office the day before and they told me to show up at 6:30am. When I showed up, no one was there and they didn’t answer their phone. The website also said 6:30am start time and if you were 15 min late, you would have to reschedule. I stood around for 30 minutes thinking I had been scammed.
The owner showed up at 7am (that I had met the day before when I booked) and said that someone must have told us the wrong time… no apology or customer service. Note- He was in the room looking at me when they told me 6:30 the day before.
I started the dive out very frustrated with the lack of customer service. Thank goodness the dive instructor I had was kind and nice (Tyler). I enjoyed the dive but was not impressed with the way the shop and owner handled the timing issue.

We took a dry suit course and went on a few dives with Monterey Bay Scuba. Tyler was our instructor, Hunter was captain of the boat, we had an incredible time. Excellent course instruction, fantastic diving, everyone was incredibly knowledgeable about the area, Tyler is a world class instructor, this shop is top notch. I highly recommend diving here.

I just dived three days with this shop and it was phenomenal. Closest shop in town to the dive sites, boat dives and shore dives were awesome, rental gear was high quality and organized, they made everything easy for us. I dived three days with Tyler, he signed off my dry suit cert and we did four dives, super professional, smart and personable. I can’t wait to do more dives here! I am definitely coming back to MBS and Tyler to do my next level of certs. The instruction was great, boat service was luxury and the dive sites were unbelievable.

Pretty convenient if you're scuba diving. Dive shop doesn't have many options to buy gear but you can't beat the location.
