I went to Salon A after months without a cut due to Covid. 5 stars all around, seriously. I had made an appointment at another place, which was canceled on me last minute for the 4th time. I got fed up and stopped rescheduling and instead called Salon A, hoping they could get me in same day. The woman who answered the phone was really kind, listened to my story, and said that there was only one stylist who she thought *might* be able to get me in, but that she was doing a wedding so it wasn't a sure thing. She took down my number and said she'd get back to me. Within 5 minutes, she called me back and they got me in. When I got there, I was a little early, and was told that the stylist would be back soon, so I waited. Upon looking around, I could see that these people truly care about safety. The chairs were set at least 6 feet a part, I didn't have my measuring tape on me. There was hand sanitizer, everyone wore their masks, and they took my temperature upon checking in. The woman who cut my hair (forgive me if I'm wrong but I think her name was Valerie) did an excellent job. She was kind and good to talk to. I dont know for sure, but it kinda seemed like she doesn't usually work Saturdays, that she came in because I had called needing a haircut. She did exactly what I asked and I couldn't be happier with the results.

What a find! We are new to the area. I was quite concerned about finding someone who would be able to cut my wavey hair. Christ

This is an amazing salon with all four stylists (April, the owner, Lisa, Valerie and Kimberlee) being artists. It's stunningly beautiful and comfortable, and while I see Kimberlee (there aren't enough stars for her in this review), I know that everyone there is talented and able to cut and color with confidence. I've been a client for 5 years, and while I know the downside of their getting too busy from great reviews, I'm happy to share my experience with everyone!

Valerie is absolutely lovely, not only is she a sweet caring person but she is immensely talented and thoughtful and made me feel so good and prettier !!! I have had many hair cuts and colours all over the world in some very high- end big city salons and Valerie stands out as an all round excellent stylist ! I am going to be coming back to her again and again! So happy to have found such a jewel and fabulously talented lady

Made an appointment with Tony for a pedicure tomorrow. I want to start by saying that this review is only for Tony's services (he is the nail guy) because he used to work out of Scissors and Sun (remember them?). Anywho, he does really good work. Regarding the lady who owns the salon. I went to her twice a few years ago (actually not that long in 2007) - she is real chatty and self serving. I almost got the feeling that she wants people to feel sorry for her. I say this because if you go to the filtered reviews - one of the reviews says that she is a single parent etc etc. I remember her telling me about that and how she built the place up herself. I can't tell whether her casualness is a cultural thing - but it did not seem natural to me but her personality is contrived and it made me uncomfortable. This is not to say that the facial that she gave me wasn't fine. It was. I went a second time to another person there (who is now at Spa on the Plaza). Weirdest Brazilian wax I have ever received - painful, long, drawn out - dealing with an amateur. She was my esthetician at Spa on the Plaza for a facial and she is the same pushy, slightly bizarre person still.

One downfall of moving to a new area is finding a good hairdresser who understands your style and needs. When I first moved out to the Peninsula, I browsed around from salon to salon trying to find an expert in hair coloring. One morning, I stumbled upon Alvarado Concepts in downtown Monterey, I witnessed a hairdresser giving a client an A-line hair through the salon chair staged on the window. The haircut came out really good, so I figured they probably know what they're doing. I had a wedding to attend that weekend so I wanted to get something done. I went in, talked to the stylist (who turned out to be the owner) and asked her she were able to color the top half of my hair blonde, I showed her a picture, and her response was positive. She said, "That's easy! We use nothing but organic Aveda products and it will definitely bring out a richer looking blonde." It sold me, even though I've never heard of these organic products, I figured I'll try it out. So I got a quote for $120, arranged an appointment, and came back the following Friday morning. There were 2 hairdressers this time, the owner introduced me to her "color expert" a Filipino chick in her late 20s. I didn't realize she'd be the one doing my hair. Nevertheless, she was really friendly so I just went with it. She started working on my hair, spent 20 minutes combing it. Honestly, I couldn't comprehend why, my hair was really silky and healthy. Anyway, she finally went on to mix the chemicals. She came back and started applying it to my hair without using any foils. I've done my hair enough to know that you need to insulate it to bring out desired results. After she worked through a quarter of my hair, I asked, "Aren't you going to use any foils? Her response was, "Oh, you want to use foils?" I was dumbfounded and I really should've walked out at this point, had I foreseen what would've happen to my hair. She started applying it all over, this time with the foils. Once she was done, she told me to just sit there and read magazines. I didn't sit under any hair dryer station. That when I asked if she was going to apply heat to speed up the process. She came out with a blow-dryer and started applying heat for about 20 minutes and then left me there. After that, she periodically checked on my hair every 15 minutes. An hour and a half passed and I was still waiting. Normally, it takes and hour an a half. She assured me that since they were organic products, it may take longer to process. 2 hours passed, my scalp started to get irritated and I told her, she said a little while longer. 2 and a half hours later, we rinse out my hair and she applied some toner and conditioner, not once but twice. My scalp was burning the entire time. I caught a glimpse at the mirror, I was horrified. It was not what I wanted at all. I had 3 shades of orange!! No where near blonde. It was a disaster, a nightmare I wouldn't wish upon anyone. She caught my reaction and immediately ran to the back of the salon to use the phone. I overheard her calling someone to get a recommendation on what she should do. I'm thinking to myself, "Holy crap, what did I get myself into?" She came out and started blow drying my hair and flat-out lied to me that it looked great. She even started to style it. I was not pleased and I told her. She offered to fix it if I came back the following week. That way I could give my hair time to recover since there were a lot of chemicals in it. The owner provided me with some purple lavender shampoo, giving me bs about how it would "calm down the brassiness." I went through an entire week wearing every cap/hat I was able to find in my closet. Desperate, I went back and wanted them to fix it. It was an even bigger mistake, ever going back. The same little Filipino girl spent another 2 hours with my hair, only to leave my hair damaged and it was the first time I experienced hair breakage. I seen my bangs all shrived right in the middle of my bangs, a
