The food was okay but the service and decor were great. My party ordered the lamb chops and the ribeye. The lamb chop itself tasted pretty good but the mashed potatoe side was extremely salty. The ribeye was ordered medium rare but came out beyond rare and looked like it was simply seared on all sides. I like a rare/medium rare steak but this was simply too chewy to eat. We asked for it fixed and they happily did it. It came back medium/medium rare so it looked great but it tasted a bit dry and the flavor wasn't very good. It came with some fried onions but I feel like it didn't add much to the dish. The mashed potatoe side came from the same batch I presume because it was just as salty. Maybe the seafood is better but I don't recommend coming here for the red meat.

My family and I, although we have lived in the Monterey area for quite a few years, had our first dinner experience at Sardine Factory. My mother chose this restaurant, because she remembered seeing a beautiful photo of the place in a travel brochure. My brother and I were determined to "do whatever mom wants", so we agreed to her suggestion immediately.Upon arrival, we were seated in one of the extraordinary dining rooms. Mom asked about the "sunroom in the brochure", and... Since we were determined to do anything that Mom wants, I worked up the courage to ask Rachel and Natalie to figure out what room my mother was talking about and seat us there.Typically, I am quite shy about inconveniening people, but... Today was different. I just found out that my elderly mother had a doctor's visit that was life-changing.So... I found a moment to tell Rachel and Natalie that I was deaing with a "life moment regarding mom's health". Rachel and Natalie immediately found a table for us in the glass atrium that my mother had seen in a brochure. I was very, very touched by how quickly these two lovely staff members worked to make my mom's wish come true. Their kindness and sincerity were just so apparent and obvious. We took dozens of photographs of ourselves, my laughing mom, and the beautiful glass atrium. The food was delicious. I drank too much. There were some tears and laughter. The beautiful setting. The delicious food. The wine. The happy memories, while my family shared a rare moment to get together despite our busy, busy lives....Rachel and Natalie and the rest of the wonderful staff at Sardine Factory, thank you so much for sharing your love, sincerity, your gorgeous restaurant and lovingly prepared food with us.My entire family will remember this evening forever. Thank you.~Austin

It was the first time my wife and I went to the Sardine Factory after decades of going to Monterey. The service was exceptional. The food was very good. The atmosphere was very good. We will be back. It's is pricey. But, worth the money on occasion.

Great place to eat dinner. The calamari and prime rib is awesome. You can’t go wrong with anything from here. Stop by and enjoy the night.

We had early dinner reservations on a Saturday night. We were disappointed to hear the atrium was booked for a private party. We requested atrium seating when we made our reservation. Other than that everything was great! Love the atmosphere and decor. Wine list is never ending, literally thousands of wines. We had the baked cannelloni appetizer which was delish. For dinner we had the Chilean sea bass with risotto special and the lobster linguine. The special was good but the pasta was amazing. Ended the night with espresso martinis. Over all a fun date night. Bill was around $300 for two.

Food was a disappointment. Our prime rib was raw and tough with a charred crust. When we sent it back to be cooked a to med rare, mine was covered in the charred aus juice and I couldn't eat it. Should have sent it back or asked they remove it from the bill. I couldn't eat it. Asked for a nice table but was sat next to loud children. Room was loud and crowded. Was charged for a complimentary slice of birthday cake we didn't ask for.

An excellent restaurant for a special occasion or just a meal. The service is impeccable and never disappoints. The food is beyond great. Been dining here for 35 to 40 years and I've never had a bad meal. The wait staff is attentive but never in your face. They're the best in the business. Highly recommended.

This was a less than stellar experience at Sardine Factory. We had to ask for water 6 times. Our cocktails (which also took a long time to get to our table) even arrived before our water. Unfortunatley, the waiter seemed entirely distracted by larger parties. We had to remind him twice that we ordered a bowl of the bisque (and 2 cups were brought out). When the “famous” cheese bread arrived, the napkin was draped over the top and was stuck to the cheese. We were constantly battling with empty plates and menus taking up space on our tiny table for 2. The seafood Marina was delicious!!! The calamari steak was just okay (I honestly liked the scallops and shrimp that accompanied the calamari more). The risotto wasn't super warm, so maybe that's why I wasn't over impressed with that. I would still recommend this restaurant, but be closer to the bar (we were in the room with the glass ceiling) where you can listen to the piano and be closer to the bar for expeditions libations. Cheers!

Was a little skeptical of a restaurant so close to a touristy area, but the Sardine factory exceeded expectations. We sat in the conservatory--which is a beautiful glass dome surrounded by a garden. I had never had sardines before and did order the sardine salad appetizer. I anticipated an oily, fishy fish by reputation--but the preparation was delicious. It was reminiscent of tuna with a lovely vinaigrette. My husband got the abalone--which should not be missed. The waitstaff was attentive and made for a special night. It was a very memorable dinner and highly recommended.

I learned a new thing about prime rib last night. My waiter forgot to ask me how I would like my meat cooked and presented me with a rare - medium rare cut. I prefer medium- not bloody on cutting, but didn't complain & tried to eat it as prepared. When I had trouble cutting the meat as it was fairly rare, he asked if it was ok. I told him I preferred medium- medium well & asked why it was so rare. I was informed that the cut gets more well done later in the evening and if I ate @ a later time it would be more done. Two people for dinner Sunday evening. The food and service was good. We felt the food came too quickly, no time to enjoy our wine and it was way too noisy for any kind of good conversation. The night before we dined at a sports bar and the noise level at the sports bar and The Sardine Factory were about the same. The tables are way too close together and too many tables in the dining room. I believe it is called the search for more money. Two entrees four glasses of wine $200.00 not including tip.Parking: We walked
