“This is our favorite nursery away from home. We've been coming here for years, consistently great selection of both common and more unusual succulents. They also have a great selections of planter pots, empty and pre-planted. We met and had a great conversation with the owner on this last visit. Highly, highly recommended!”

“Wow — what an absolute gem (no pun intended) of a shop!

I stopped into Beads by the Bay today, and all I can say is wow. The visual experience alone is worth the visit — vibrant colors everywhere, unique pieces and beads displayed beautifully, sunlight streaming through the shop, and even a sweet little garden in the back.

I’m thrilled with the necklace I purchased: a stunning, one-of-a-kind piece made from old Roman glass from Afghanistan. Where else can you find something so unique, ethically made, and clearly crafted with intention? Susan’s pieces are the kind you buy to treasure and wear for a lifetime — not fast fashion.

I can’t wait to come back for the African waist beads next time! Susan, the owner, was so kind and knowledgeable — you can feel her passion for what she does. I loved when she told me, “I would never carry anything you could find at Michael’s here” — and you can tell she means it.

Seriously: shop small, support this incredible local gem, and find something truly special.”

“You have to go there. If you need a smile, they have them. The best place to get any plant question answered. They have great compost, just ask them to point you to the pile. I'm a big fan.”

“Beautifully curated botanical garden and additional children's/kitchen garden. Also, sizeable hiking trails behind the gardens that expands into the future garden plans. The several trails include lovely vistas of the San Luis Obispo area and several of the Nine Sisters (ancient volcanoes).”

“This place is a little gem in San Luis Obispo, right across the street from Cuesta College on HWY 1. If you have children I would definitely recommend the children’s garden there. Sometimes they have free events, like the Free Family Day on Sundays once a month. They also have yoga, jewelry making, and photography classes…and so much more! Check out the website slobg.org. SLO isn’t a huge city and their botanical garden is quite modest, don’t go expecting a freaking butterfly preserve or a super bloom. It’s in beginning stages of becoming a big beautiful botanical garden like one would see in a larger city.”
