My expectation for a 4-star hotel is a clean room. The towels and bedding were clean, but the room floor and the shower floor looked like they had not been cleaned for ages. The shower had a tile floor and the floor tile grout was black with some white spots. I took a towel and rubbed the grout and the black was coming off! I did not use the shower. Fortunately we only stayed for one night. We were in the Sanctuary room. I do not recommend this "hotel" to anyone and will not come back.

I booked the room in this hotel and then canceled it since our trip changed dates. My cancellation supposed to be free but they charge $100 deposit. They withheld this deposit for one and half month and then refunded only $85. There is no any information on booking site that they withholding $15 after cancellation.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a night on the way by to sanfranciso. Absolutely loved it. The view was amazing, and so was the room. The theme matches the location. Took a walk down to the beach in the morning, and it was beautiful, lots of great shells. Will definitely be back next time we are in town.

We enjoyed the view and the double shower. The binoculars on the coffee table was a nice touch. We enjoyed tea in the common space in the main house, and visiting with other guests. If I stay longer on a future visit, I plan to make greater use of the deck table and chairs. It is a very pleasant place to hang out in good weather.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay! Very interesting atmosphere! However, there is room for a few improvements.Location is ideal if you are going whale watching, or kayaking through the Elkhorn Slough or hike around Moss Landing. Nice places to eat around the area. Monterey is only 17 miles away in a pretty much straight down south road.Be ready to watch all sorts of sea birds, sea otters, sea lions (actually you can hear them barking), from the window of your room. Bathtub is amazing!I definitely recommend Captain's Inn if you are looking to stay in an unique and quiet place, with access to lots of things to do.

We stayed in the Sanctuary room, in the boat house. Loved it.Amazing 2-person shower with 2 full flow shower heads. Very unusual in drought conscious California.Absolutely quiet even with windows open. The only thing we could hear was the ocean waves.Bed was great, though the boat trailer lights did not work.We stayed 2 nights. Housekeeping came in and made up the bed and gave us some new towels. That service is very unusual post-covid.Due to Monterey County clamping down due to a covid surge breakfast was not served, so we cannot comment on it. It would have been nice. We hope to be able to enjoy it on our next stay. Also due to covid restrictions they had a contactless check-in that was flawless. Codes were texted to us. We received a phone call couple of day before letting us know about the text.We have 2 minor complaints.1. We wish there was a mini fridge in the room as we travel with food and drinks in a cooler.2. Off-street parking is limited due to the layout of the property. We very much look forward to another excuse to return and stay at The Captain's Inn again in the near future.Nearby activities: Wildlife viewing via kayak or whale watching boat.Great beach.I am afraid that downtown Moss landing is mostly dead though.Elkhorn slough safari office has a great bookstore and gift shop.Shakespear society of America has their home here. Not much else besides good restaurants.Walkability: We walked to 4 local restaurants. There were 2 more restaurants that we did not try, but were walkable.

1. Bed made out of a trailer! Uncomfortable2. No refrigerator in the room3. There is no microwave in the room4. No manager on duty......EVER.5. Basic coffee machine in the common area.6. Other than alcohol for sale, there are NO DRINKS OF ANY KIND (juice, soda, WATER! NOTHING.7. Kitchy furniture in the rooms is NOT FUNCTIIONAL AND A WASTE OF SPACE.8. You are either sitting in an uncomfortable wicker lawn chair, or you're lying in an uncomfortable bed, or you're standing!!!9. Great view of the waterway. That's It!Not coming back...

I cant say enough about this wonderful and comfortable inn. Claw foot tubs fireplaces lots of outdoor space, and was perfect for our family reunion. 11 rooms is possible to book complete for the whole group.

This inn is super cute. My husband and I enjoyed the atmosphere very much. The decor and the outside gardens are perfect for the setting. It was super relaxing to sit on the deck and look over the Salinas River. So peaceful and beautiful. We stayed in the Admiral's Wife room, and it was gorgeous! Beautiful antique furniture with a fireplace and a clawfoot tub! Took a wonderful bath in that tub. I wish there was bubble bath available, but the body wash did the trick quite nicely. I didn't realize until after that there was a whole glass jar of bath salts by the sink. Think it should have been labeled or placed with the other bath/shower items. My biggest complaint, and the reason I took away a star, is the bed was awful! The most uncomfortable bed that my husband and I have ever slept in. I use the word "slept" loosely because we didn't get much sleep at all. Luckily, we only booked one night because we wouldn't have been able to stay another night in that bed. If the mattress was replaced with something better, this would be a 5-star Inn.All-In-All definitely enjoyed our stay here. If they upgrade their mattresses, we will definitely book here again in the future! Thank you Captain's Inn!!Rooms: The room was gorgeous with amazing antique furniture and a clawfoot tub! The mattress needs to be upgraded. SO uncomfortable. If it wasn't for that mattress, this would be a 5-star hotel.Nearby activities: The nearby beach is nice! Not too crowded with tons of wildlife activity. We saw seals, otters, and tons of birds! So much activity.Went on a Whale Watching tour with Blue Ocean Whale Watching. Highly recommend! Captain Kate and Marine Biologist Brian were amazing! Will definitely be booking with them again. The coffee at The Power Plant down the street is delicious. Pricey but good!

Quaint inn in an older home; beautiful, nautical decorations. Keurig in room and continental breakfast of oatmeal packets, granola bars and danishes. Much more quiet than expected but walls are thin and there is some mild road noise. Beautiful grounds and landscaping and amazing porch.

Larry at Kayak Connection recommended this place and despite the kitchyness of the photos and themed rooms, I went ahead and booked. The place isn’t inexpensive but the proximity to Kayak Connection was perfect for what we are doing in Moss Landing.I received a call to confirm a few days prior and was told I’d receive a text with check in info including codes which I received the day before we arrivedThe room was clean if not a bit dated which was fine. There were a lot of rules which was a bit annoying. The Covid mask sign was fill up in the main house which was also annoying and which we ignored. We are in the castaway room. The bed was very high and required a step stool to get on and off so if you have physical limitations this is not the room for you.The view of the slough was nice and there were binoculars in the room which was nice (but we didn’t use). Shower pressure was good. The fireplace turns on with a switch offering a nice effect and some warmth. There’s not much nearby but the Thai place was really good.Checkout was at 10 which is early but I think you can easily extend until 11.Parking was available on the property. We weren’t there long enough to walk around the area or enjoy other parts of the property.

We stayed in the ocean block, in the high seas room. The room had a great view, and I can not emphasis on this enough, the view is the absolute selling point. To be honest, you can sit in that room and look at nature and can spend hours. The bed and tub were well kept and spacious for a couple getaway. The thing I didn’t like is the fact, the room is highly overpriced, and so is the whole moss landing place. The service was average with kind of no invitation or warm welcome to such a cozy place. It felt more like a roadside motel entrance, rather than a highly priced boutique hotel.

We're do I start room clean everything worked and up to date our room was the romantic room double shower and a view to die for quiet and comfy definitely a great stay and will be my go to when we come out to Monterey bay never had to interact with staff they texted our room code and that was that only thing I can complain about the bed mine is soft and broken in this one was new and firm wasn't use to it but I slept like a baby, the brisk morning air was pleasant to wake up to highly recommend.
