“My partner and I visited the store, we happened to drive past it and decided to walk in. So glad that we did!
The outside is unassuming and my partner who is from Mount Shasta (and moved out almost 8yrs ago) didn’t even know it existed. The woman at the register, whose named we forgot to catch, let us know Weston’s has been around for over 50 years if I’m not mistaken. That just goes to show how great this business is!
Once you walk in you’re like “oh cool! So much fabric!…. Wait there’s more! And more!” We thought it just ended at fabric, but the back side of the store had sooo much yarn. I would say the variety and quality of the yarn offered is way better than your average brick & mortar art supply shop. Even in comparison to some dedicated yarn stores we visited in the Bay Area (Imaginknit is a big one), this place is STILL so much better. My partner loves the Japanese Noro yarn, and it’s hard to find a place that carries more than a few colors. Weston’s probably had every color and every product line. The pricing is exactly the same as ImaginKnit, so you’re not being overcharged either.
We noticed there were other customers in the store chatting with either other & worker, so you get a sense of community among the regulars. While waiting in line, another customer told us she’d been shopping here for years! I don’t do any fabric crafting, but seeing my partner so excited to shop and seeing the community within the store made me feel a little FOMO haha
We will definitely be back. In a time where big businesses are pushing locals out, it’s more important than ever to shop small so places like Weston’s can continue to keep their doors open for another 50 years!”
“Cool, fair trade store where I felt a little bit more in touch with the artists who made the products that I’m buying. Appreciated the photos and personal stories of the artists throughout the store.”
