Perhaps this store is okay for gear, but be careful about getting advice from them regarding Mt. Shasta climbing. I’m not sure if their manager was experienced or not, but he gave us bad advice, grossly underestimating how long it takes to get to the summit from the clear creek trailhead. He also said the trailhead would be easy to find, but we got very lost because of the lack of road signs in the area. If this store doesn’t consider themselves authorities on the mountain, they should say so, because they aren’t just the general public. Perhaps this is the manager’s way of being encouraging to climbers, but that type of negligence is still dangerous.

I'm a looooong time local customer, have been coming here since the mid-90s. I've personally known many former employees, and have made some pretty large purchases over the years. I'm a big fan of keeping $$$ local. I recently dropped off my bicycle (that I bought from Fifth Season ten years ago!) for some maintenance on a busy Saturday, after calling first. The person on the phone was polite and professional, and told me it was okay to drop it off, and pick it up the following Monday. Perfect! I came in on the Lake Street side with my bike. I didn't want to block customer access, so I took the bike over to the bike repair desk, and asked the woman (who seemed to be in charge) if it was okay to leave it there. I was abruptly informed that she was currently helping someone else, which was true. I was just looking for an "okay"... not to be embarrassed in front of a bunch of people! But I ate a little crow, and patiently waited for her to finish. After about ten minutes she came over to me, clearly expecting that I was going to be a pain (I am totally not ; ). I informed her that I just wanted to drop off my bike, and she quickly turned her back on me to get the form. Then she came out with it, and tersely asked me the pertinent questions. It was apparent she wanted to get rid of me as quickly as possible, and I was happy to comply with her wish. I simply chalked up the rude behavior as a by product of a busy day... On Monday at noon I went to pick up the bike. The weekend crowd was gone, I was possibly the only customer in the store. The same woman was working the counter. I told her that I was there to pickup the bike, and I had a few questions about e-bikes. Again, she wheels on her heels and goes to get the work ticket off my bike, not even acknowledging my request for e-bike info. There's NO WAY she didn't hear me! It was then that I realized that this was a personality trait of hers, and that maybe she is unfortunately in the wrong position (retail, customer service) for her skillset. I asked her if I could speak to the manager. I was informed that she IS the manager. I quietly paid the repair bill, took my bike and headed out the door. Needless to say, I'll be looking elsewhere for an ebike purchase. My advice to her is: 1) Drink WAY less coffee 2) Work on your listening skills 3) Work on your patience 4) Treat your customers better!

Kenji and Jesse took care of me. Excellent customer service. Knowledgeable and did research to answer my questions. Spent quite a while with me fitting boots and looking at skis. I will be back to buy more.

Memorial Day Weekend. I was very impressed with their customer service. They were busy but kept it professional. Their recommendations were spot on. I was borderline renting some snow shoes. They said they didn't think they were necessary. I took their advice, and it turned out, I did not need the snow shoes. Everything fit perfect and I owe a lot of this success of my climb to their renal equipment. I was the one rolled up my sleeping bag with the car in it!

Very rude employees. Will never come back. There is no excuse for that kind of rudeness to customers. What it says is, we don't need your business. Good, we'll take our business elsewhere, and you should too.

I crawled into this shop as a ragged PCT thru-hiker with bad heel pain due to my own stupidity for wearing blown out insoles for hundreds of miles. “Please help me,” I called out tears rolling down my face. “Please, I need insoles.” A stream of golden light immediately hit the front counter as he himself, Jesse…or as he is known on the PCT…“Foot Jesus”, nodded…and said to me, “Take a seat.” I did as I was told, and took off my dusty shoes. Foot Jesus grabbed my feet looked at it and mumbled to himself. “Am I goner?” I thought to myself. I am blessed by the presence of Foot Jesus, no I have to be okay. He went into the back and after a few rounds of slapping various insoles onto my foot and some sort of fairy godfather magic, he placed the soles into my shoes and said “Try these on.” I slipped my foot into my shoes and that moment, I understood how Cinderella must have felt. Thank you Foot Jesus.

Salesmen don’t know what they are talking about. Wasted $$ on shoes that wouldn’t ever work for a through hike. They do know that there is no snow in mount Shasta, though. And that is why it is shameful that they tell you that you must rent crampons and ice axes to go up now.

Everything was great until ! I rented a pair of boots from them . Renter be aware ! If you rent boots to climb Mtn Shasta from this company you might as well stay in the parking lot at the Bunny Head . I climbed May 15th and there was a good amount of snow . Well it was slush going up and the boots that I rented did not hold up . Not even an hour into the climb on boots were soaked my feet were wet and cold not even that but after hours of climbing the wet boots ate my feet up with blisters . The assent climb the next day I couldn’t even put them on they were so wet. I had on Gaiters as well! It ruined my trip that I had planned for months and paid for and came from Florida tô California for . Very let down ! So when I went to return the equipment I spoke to two different employees. One told me they can’t guarantee that the boots wouldn’t get saturated. I was with 4 other guys and their boots were dry. I was really let down and a whole trip wasted over a pair of boots that were needless to say pathetic! To top it off they didn’t seem to care or even want to do anything about it . I mentioned they need to get better boots and throw the ones they had to rent away . Do not rent boots from this company !

Excellent costumer service. Boots and crampons worked wonders on Shasta during our 14 hour jaunt to the top. Absolutely no problems due to gear. Also be aware of the slushy show that occurs later in the day. No matter what gear you have, bring an extra pair of socks if you plan on being on the mountain past 12 as things do get wet. I would also recommend a helmet due to significant falling rock risk on Red Banks this past weekend. 10/10 would rent from again and possibly buy boots from next round.

Drove 3 hours to see Jesse their boot guy and was surprised by how good the service was. He has an in depth knowledge of the mechanics of the foot and stretched my mountaineering boots and made me custom insoles for a surprisingly low price. Shop folks very nice with a cool dog. 10/10 would use for all my winter sports needs, especially boots!

Bought a pair of ski boots and got great service—very friendly & knowledgeable staff. Good selection of really nice clothing & gear. If you want cheap stuff, this is where you go for quality products, not lowest prices.
