CHECK YOUR CREDIT CARD STATEMENT!
I tipped $2 for two glasses of wine for a total of $18. My credit card company flagged that I was charged a $5 tip for a total of $21. So dishonest!

Alberto’s Nightclub in downtown Mountain View is one of the best venues for social dancing in the Bay Area. It has been operating for over 30 years and continues to provide a well-managed, welcoming environment for both local dancers and visiting professionals. I’m particularly reviewing the Sunday Argentine tango night, which runs from 7 p.m. to midnight.
The dance floor is a major asset. It’s sprung hardwood with just the right amount of give—responsive, balanced, and easy on the joints even after several hours of dancing. The shape is slightly irregular, which tango dancers will notice, but experienced leaders and followers will have no problem navigating it. The floor’s overall quality places it among the best in Northern California.
Seating is well-arranged around the perimeter, allowing good views of the floor and easy access to the bar and restrooms. Lighting is warm and consistent. The sound system is solid—more than adequate for social dancing, even if it isn’t concert quality. The bar is excellent, with fair prices and quick service. Bathrooms are clean and sufficient, even on busy nights. Parking is easy and safe; I haven’t heard of any break-ins at tango events. An ample parking lot sits nearby.
The tango night is hosted by Dorcas H., a long-time patron of Argentine tango in the U.S. Her events attract a serious and diverse crowd, including visiting dancers from Europe and Argentina. Instruction and performances by international maestros are still regularly scheduled here, which is rare these days.
I’ve DJed tango at Alberto’s since 2024 and consistently found it a smooth and professional environment to work in. It’s a pleasure to play music here. On one recent evening, Frank Jin—prodigal musicalizer, dancer, and international DJ—was on the floor alongside a full room of South Bay regulars. That night was a good example of what this venue can offer: a great floor, excellent music, and a knowledgeable, welcoming community. A host of Tangos generals, mavericks and shock troops have made their way through this venue over the years.
Alberto’s combines practical strengths—floor quality, good management, clean facilities—with rare cultural value. For social dancers, especially tango dancers, it’s a top-tier space. Highly recommended.

Alberta's was great. I went for the beginner and intermediate classes followed by the open dancing. It was a $15 entrance fee for the night. The door said no tennis shoes and T-shirts but that was enforced. You are allowed to bring in one sealed standard size water bottle with you or it is $3 to buy one. For sustainability reasons I really wish you could just purchase a glass of water or bring your own reusable. It was very warm inside and very crowded since it was a Friday night. There was also a coat check available. Overall had a great time and will definitely go back. Bicycle parking is available right in front.

The sound system is terrible! The dance floor is nice and smooth but way too crowded with people who were unaware of their feet and kept stepping on mine. Expensive cover charge for canned music. Had a drink and it was flavorless.

I don't give it 5 stars because it is very repetitive, the music is always the same and the DJ needs to add more resentful music from there, everything is super good

I was there today, Saturday, February 17, 2024, it's four hours of dancing, but it's no longer what it was. Latin Saturdays, now it's rock and the one who plays music only played rock in English and then rock in Spanish and then the orchestra sang the same I had just finished playing, and the sound of the orchestra was poor and it took an hour of singing to cut your wrists... these are no longer Latin Saturdays...

great dancing, good options for all levels of dancing, friendly crow however, no live DJ and music tents to be repetitive with the list they have. You can memorize some songs after a while.

Great place to learn Salsa! The vibe was happenin'! Crowded! Lots of folks pretending not to know how to dance. mmhmm. I'm onto you dance floor sharks. Michael warmly greeted us. He was great!(Could use more service folks behind the bar at peak times to keep up with demand. Not an easy ask.)Instructors were fab, but because it was over-subscribed it was often hard to see their foot work. That's a good thing and a compliment to be over-subscribed! Tearin' up the dance floor was never my thing, but I'm learnin'. Skillset expanding! Uhoh. Watch out, ladies. James Bond skillset requires dance expertise. Indubitably. Would go back again!Woohoo!

They do a basic level bachata workshop on Wednesdays and then a social workshop.
