Attended a private event here at Legendary McDini's through an invite, all in all it was a very special night with terrific entertainment, dinner and drinks. What made it extra special was all proceeds were donated to a Tijuana orphanage along with a private hospice care facility, in addition to the large food donation prepared and provided by McDini's ownership. The Prime Rib dinners were out of this world, mine was perfect as everyone else's was in our group, the lobster even better, tender and succulent. Great chefs for sure! I have no idea how Leg' McDini's pulled this event off in these times, much less get the additional task of sending exquisite food across to Mexico with no apparent hitches. I never knew McDini'soffered live theater as part of their entertainment. Looks like many more good things coming to Legendary McDini's once the state mandates conclude so all of SOCAL can appreciate another great entertainment venue with quality people, entree's and cocktail's. Thank you to Legendary McDini's from all of us at the "Nice Guys" group. P.S. To dummy's named "Hillside Swingers Parties-Tijuana", why bother inventing such silly, petty, terrible nonsense on here? when it clearly appears your rant is some personal vendetta having nothing to do with Leg' McDini's?!!?This is my take on your immature and ratty drooped "review". 1. Your writing style is akin to a failed lawyer who got their law license suspended for fraud, stupidity and incompetence, still owing the SBA for your student loan granted in 1989 that you filed Chapter 13 in an attempt to avoid paying your 31+year old debt while living in your abandoned car at some park watching porno on your prepaid Obama-era flip-phone awaiting calls from online dating service-leads. 2. "Swinging" is not allowed in Mexico, that activity is reserved for kids at playgrounds with adult supervision for obvious reasons you would understand. 3. Perv's who adhere to your activity should stay in single bars where other failed lawyers dwell in anarchy, $1. drinks and mutual failure as you would understand better than most. Now, go "dismiss a ticket" in traffic court. Looks like another fake review by a nasty person from the overpriced Solana Beach lawyers barn with no clients.

It's a 100 year old dump. There is no air conditioning and no heat. If the restroom is any indication you don't wanna see the kitchen. I didn't see rats, only rat droppings. The food wasn't bad, but way over priced. It's your basic nightmare.

As an ongoing tradition, we wanted to have St. Patrick's lunch at McDini's. They were only doing take out, so I ordered 2 corned beef dinners on the phone and drove there to pick them up. Even though I had ordered on the phone, we still had to wait about 25 minutes for the two containers. Paid the bill of $60 (way over-priced) and left. Got home only to discover that one meal was fine, but there was no meat in the other container- only vegetables. I called an was told I could pick up meat, but I had no intention of another trip from quite a distance. I asked for a partial refund and was told I had to talk to a manager. Got a call, but the "manager" didn't know if he could help or not. He promised to call later. Two days later and no call and the business is closed because of the health crisis.

Not very legendary will prolly not return. Way overpriced. Fries have no salt at all. Wasn't worth the over priced burger and undercooked potato wedges

Food took forever to get served, was given microwaved tortillas that were practically falling apart. The staff uses obscene language infront of kids. Not family friendly

A real classic restaurant and bar that's been a San Diego staple since the 1900's, can you imagine that? Prolly' the best Reuben Corned Beef sandwich known to man or woman, true, true, true! Put it this way, I was NOT disappointed. FOOD: Irish/American cuisine with sort of an Eastern European flair, you can taste it particularly in their Corned Beef items.Regular Corned Beef is so tough it requires a phillips-head screwdriver to unlock the meat...... NOT HERE! Most tender, juicy and delicious, I MEAN DELICIOUS Corned Beef brisket Reuben ever sampled in my lifetime A big menu containing burgers, chicken and waffle, steaks, Prime Rib, breakfast specials, Seafood and Mexican dishes and CORNED BEEF! While my Reuben sandwich was about $14.95, the price is misleading 'cause it was sooooo frickin' big, I had to ask the other 1/2 to take out. What really makes Rueben's special is the Russian Dressing they provide. Don't think, just order it, you'll taste what I'm trying to tell you. Baked marblized Rye bread, very soft but crunchy! My co-workers ordered a Philly Cheese and Atlantic Red Salmon with wild rice that both looked incredible. Matter of fact, everything I saw being served looked as if McDini's really takes much pride in the careful preparation of these dishes. There is also a nice selection of Liquor and Moxified beers, something that deserves it's own 5 star review as McDini's has the best variety of tasteful craft beers I have ever seen. 15 taps, I think, pick 1 through 15, you'll be just fine. AMBIANCE: Kind of an old fashioned restaurant vibe to it and we loved it! Service was super fast, digitized system, so wait time was next to nothing for 3 large servings with side orders and drinks. Other personal comments on here are kind of improvisational comedy, in that every normal person has an opinion while the nut jobs remain nuts. The EBT comments written about someone named Shannon S appear like great comedy, funny and simultaneously deadly at the same time. I laughed so hard I almost dropped my precious Reuben sandwich. Worth noting, we came in around 2:30PM so not too busy. Very organized seating area with some attractive retro booths, I really dig the lay out, cleanliness and aroma of the food dishes permeating throughout the dining area, reminded me of back home on a good day. Only imagine how crazy this place gets on weekends when people are out and about while expecting some great food and service. PARKING: Not an issue as they have their own secure parking area, Aside from that, there is free street parking outside and around the block. From what I was told, McDini's ownership owns most of the entire city block, so parking is plentiful at least during non-peak hours. The whole city appears to be in revival mode, prolly' Thank's to McDini's people and ownership, I mean, who wouldn't want to be close to a famous San Diego institution that evokes top quality? If there's a reason it's so popular and why they've done so well,it's got to be that incredible food menu. Make the trip (or make it again), you'll thank yourself again and again. Me? I can't wait to go back.

After a long week in San Diego.....returned to my #1 spot back in the day when I was just a young, fresh faced puppy.....The LEGENDARY McDINI'S on 8th. Funny, when we used to frequent there, it was just McDini's, in my opinion the "new" moniker "LEGENDARY" aptly fits! Even the Ethiopian UBER driver with the "fhunny" English knew exactly where McDini's is, (or as he put it) "DEY ONLY restaurant National City any GHOOD to eat" or sumthin' like that! I'd always enjoyed McDini's, now that much MORE after today's visit. Kinda' reminds me of an older restaurant that reinvented itself, yet maintained both the luster and quality of yesterday with a "today" feel to it. One thing that stands out is how great it looks and smells when you walk in the huge main dining area from 8th Street, refreshingly pleasant, I guess. OK FOOD-DRINK-FUN-TIME!!!!!! We all tried different items, mine was the Irish Fish & Chips featuring a huge portion of crispy Cod, very lightly seasoned, not oily or greasy, just moist and crispy, DELICIOUS! They bring you salad, "Dirty" fries (EXCELLENT TASTING!) And dessert, all for a reasonable price. Others ordered the Honey BBQ Chicken Waffle Sandwich plate, Prime Rib and Lobster Tail, Rueben sandwiches, Atlantic Red Salmon served with wild rice, a few (many) Moxified Beers, and a quite a few drinks. McDini's obviously got bigger and that much better since installing a dance floor with lighting, something it lacked years ago. They advertise all the championship boxing events shown on Big Screen, again something that few, (if any), other quality restaurants offer. Very clean, Bigger,Better and much Brighter, it all now appears to be here. Damn, I wished they had done all that years ago so I could brag to my old classy friends on what great taste I have in selecting popular San Diego establishments like Legendary McDini's that went from dive bar to an "A" rated restaurant while keeping their charm and inviting atmosphere. If I was a complainer, I'd say they need more staff to handle the volume, other than that: EXCELLENT STEAK MENU GREAT CORNED BEEF REUBENS IMMENSE DRINK selection REASONABLE PRICES DIGNIFIED STAFF "A+" RATED FACILITY PRETTY PEOPLE (who don't hustle drinks) CLEAN and INVITING We mingled, laughed, and enjoyed ourselves like we'd found an old friend after years apart and that friends, is Legendary McDini's on 8th Street. Tell 'em S3 says "what's up and see them again real, real, real soon!?!?" "LAST of the TRUE fun SAN DIEGO restaurant/bars" who never forgot their Military roots", (sez me!!!)

You can smell the legendary mcsmelly as soon as you walk in the door. This place needs a deep clean, a fumigation, and basically a complete overhaul. I get that it's a historical place but by letting it fall into disrepair I think it does an injustice to this place. The countertops are old and worn down, the leather upholstery is peeling and faded and funky smelling and pieces of the ceiling actually fell down while we were in there and hit my husband on the head. Thank goodness he was ok and we laughed it off. I love a great dive bar but this bar is overpriced, the drinks are poorly made, and the food is very bland. My poor husband actually had a bug in his drink and the bartender asked him If he wanted her to make another one. Ummm yes, he didn't want to drink roach juice. Ugh. Do better McDini's! Update to Nina below: Why the aggression towards my post? The beauty of Yelp is the differing ideas and opinions that people get to share. Your assumptions about my lifestyle/profession were pretty funny though. Kudos for your superb witty barbs! I suppose you just enjoy critiquing negative reviewers...so carry on and please, enjoy McDini's. I personally won't be back. Buyer beware!

My family had a get together here and it was the perfect spot to go where everyone and enjoy the food, pool table and spacious area. The service and food was amazing. Thank you for hosting my big family reunion. We'll be having our reunions here every year! Thank you To the host Lucy and wonderful servers! You made our night memorable! BTW...to Shannon S: Your comments give everyone a good laugh as distasteful comments you write only encourage others to visit McDini's that much more. You come off as: A. A former McDini's employee with no money B. Angry EBT cardholder with -0- left to spend C. An unemployed exterminator looking for work. Enjoy Legendary McDini's.....even the haters!
