Working on a gift basket for a family member recently diagnosed with the big C We frequent Nevada City a few times a year and shop for unique gifts matching the likes of friends and family for misc occasions Well this Easter weekend we were searching in many of the shops for motifs of 'The Tree of Life' on cards, candles, jewelry, stickers, aprons, tablecloth's as well as window art for said diagnosed extended family member We took our time in this shop (as we did with many in Nevada City) searching for that perfect item .. no luck in this shop As we were heading towards the door and exiting the shop, my adult son who was still lingering in the shop heard the shop owner named Lee Gaede say .... "Leave Now" in a vile whisper and then he saw her flip us off Omgawd.... when he told me minutes after we left ...he was visibly shaken ... so I proceeded to re-enter the store ... went up to that shop owner named Lee Gaede to tell her what my son had shared with me Lee Gaede denied it ... I told her I was going to report it ... I need to locate the Nevada City Chamber and merchants groups in that area That pitiful wretch ought to close up shop and never be allowed to open a busn anywhere near tourist towns again She ought to go back to LA ! Never have we been treated so badly !

If I could rate 0 stars I would. The blonde haired lady behind the counter was extremely rude and I could see her eyes watching me like a hawk around the entire store. When I was texting, she thought I was taking a photo and aggressively said “No photos at all!” Just ask nicely, Karen. I would definitely not spend money here.

A Sweet Local Treasure! Mary Mary is tucked away at the back of the NY hotel building in Nevada City. You'll find a great selection of thoughtfully selected gift items. Thers's a nice children's and babies area too. It's worth a walk down the hall past the truffle shop!! They are always COVID SAFE! Following public recommendations and precautions. Thank you Mary Mary!Note: The shop owner does not allow people to take photos of her inventory for very good reasons. Some people take pictures of things they like then go find them online. This is a small local business that depends on customers not photographers. Please support our local shops so we can all get thought this pandemic together!

Mary Mary where has your joy gone? The lady behind the counter was rude beyond belief. I put one star because it doesn't allow for negative stars. If it did, it would be a negative 10 star

My friend and I ended up walking inside just after getting a couple fantastic chocolate truffles from next door. As we were taking bite out of our chocolates, a lady (who I assume is the owner) walked by us and in an extremely snooty, rude, and condescending manner said we needed to take our food outside. As we were leaving she said rather loudly under her breath "What, do you think I'm kidding?" Two tiny truffles. During the height of Victorian Christmas. Absolutely no Christmas cheer. She was very bah humbug and was the epitome of Mr. Scrooge. She is the meanest person I've ever had the misfortune to run into in Nevada City in nearly twenty year of living in the area.

Very rude clerk. They had some really interesting soaps that I wanted to purchase. But when my teen daughter was looking at one of the bags and we were trying to figure out what it was, as it was rolled up like a fabric swatch. The clerk yelled at her. I mean really yelled. It was totally uncalled for. So we left and I used it for a learning lessons to my daughter, not to be an a** when she gets a job. Get a grip lady. Try a smile.

I don't like to use yelp to punish businesses, things are hard enough these days, but I had the strangest experience here. I was admiring a baby dress. Now, I was not going to buy the baby dress. I don't know any babies right now. But I was curious about the price and when I looked at the tag, I noticed it was made in India. I also noticed that there was a charitable organization connected to the maker of the dress, and I wanted to find out more, so I took a photo of the tag. The woman behind the counter flew over and said loudly, "DID YOU JUST TAKE A PICTURE? WE DO *NOT* ALLOW THAT." I tried to explain. She said again, in a booming voice, "WHY WOULD I STOCK THIS DRESS HERE JUST TO HAVE YOU TAKE A PICTURE AND ORDER IT ONLINE??" I said I wasn't going to do that at all (although now that she was yelling I certainly wouldn't buy it from her?), and tried to show her the information on the tag that I was interested in. She snatched the tag out of my hand and turned it around so I couldn't see it (?!?), and said, "THERE"S NOTHING ON THAT WEBSITE." Then she walked away, saying, "IF YOU HAD QUESTIONS YOU COULD HAVE ASKED ME." Of course, I don't know if this lady was just having the worst day of her life, or what? But you can't treat people like that?! There are other ways to gently ask people to support small businesses rather than Amazon or whatever, but this dressmaker is a small business too. I thought I might spread the word about this foundation that helps struggling women and children in India. I'm glad I know about it now.
