Learning more about how California’s native plants have been used by Indigenous peoples for thousands of years—for food, shelter, medicine, and tools—also gave me a deeper appreciation for the natural and cultural history of this place.
This is exactly why I’m creating a California native plant garden: not just to have a beautiful garden, but to create something that belongs to California and supports its ecosystem. Theodore Payne Foundation is a wonderful place to learn, find inspiration, and get started.”

“This is a lovely shop and the employees are very helpful and kind. They genuinely care about the plants and every single plant I’ve purchased there has thrived once I brought it home (this in contrast to some shops where the plants health goes downhill pretty rapidly). The shop is stocked with pretty and unusual items, many by local artisans. And as I mentioned, every staff member I’ve interacted with has been knowledgeable and nice!”

When I arrived Hector he immediately acknowledged our presents and greeted Us. Hector was attentive and listened to our needs. He have Us more suggestions and ideas to help our vision come to light Surprisingly their prices are more reasonable/ affordable than many other large competitors. I'm a HUGE plant collector, and have bought a bunch of plants here, many I've had for years. They have good quality plants, and knowledgeable staff.
While I'd love to give them 5 stars, they have a wonky return policy that isn't written anywhere or disclosed at the time of purchase.
I recently bought a hydrangea, that lasted all of two weeks, and I did EVERYTHING I could to keep her happy. They cost about $35, which isn't much, but I brought it back for advice and to possibly exchange it for something more durable.
The cashier asked me a few questions, and confirmed I didn't really do anything wrong, and essentially said they were just dramatic plants. When I asked if I could return it, he said this store had a policy about not issuing refunds or store credit specifically for hydrangeas because of their failure rate. I asked why this wasn't disclosed at purchase, and he just shrugged.
I went on to spend another $150 on new plants, but I left questioning my loyalty to this store, and will likely look to other nurseries in the future.”
“This is a great spot if you’re into gardening, growing, or hydroponic setups and want more than what you’d find at a regular garden section. They have a good selection of nutrients, grow media, lighting, equipment, and all the extra stuff you don’t always think about until you actually need it.
What I like most is that it feels like a place where you can ask questions and get real help instead of just wandering around guessing. Solid shop, good setup, and definitely useful whether you’re newer to growing or already know what you’re looking for.”

“I cannot speak highly enough of the experience I had working with Organic Soil Blends. I took on a major front yard landscaping project on my own with very little experience. Christian and the team at Organic Soil Blends helped me at every step to evaluate the right mulch, rocks, compost and DG for my project. Their prices were VERY competitive, and Christian even walked me through their location to look at the different options. The delivery of these items was on time, and their delivery guys even helped me determine where to place the huge amounts of compost and mulch so that they wouldn't block my driveway or other areas of construction. Christian was also kind enough to recommend nurseries to look for my plants, all which were incredible recs. All this to say, I will absolutely be using them again on future projects.”
