I had an absolutely shocking and frustrating experience at this 7-Eleven that left me feeling humiliated and disrespected. I walked in with the simple intention of purchasing a Heineken 0.0—an alcohol-free beer, which, by law, does not require an ID for purchase. Yet, what should have been a routine transaction quickly escalated into an unnecessary confrontation, filled with hostility, threats, and blatant disregard for customer service.
From the moment I declined to show my ID, the cashier’s attitude completely changed. Instead of handling the situation professionally, they immediately became defensive and aggressive, as if I was committing some kind of crime. I calmly tried to explain that Heineken 0.0 contains zero alcohol and should not require identification, but they refused to listen. Instead, they doubled down, making multiple threats—though for what exactly, I’m still unsure. Were they going to call the police over a non-alcoholic beverage? Were they planning to kick me out just for asserting my rights as a customer?
When I asked for their name—something I am fully entitled to as a paying customer—they flat-out refused to provide it. Instead, they attempted to deflect the situation, sarcastically asking for my name instead. This was clearly an intimidation tactic, meant to make me feel small, when in reality, all I was doing was questioning their incorrect enforcement of ID policies.
This whole experience was frustrating, demeaning, and completely unnecessary. If this is how they treat their customers, I can’t imagine how many other people have been unfairly hassled over non-issues. It’s one thing to enforce actual laws and store policies, but it’s another to invent rules and threaten customers who challenge them. I will never be returning to this location.
If you’re considering shopping here, be warned: even if you’re doing nothing wrong, you might still be treated as a problem.

yesterday i witnessed multiple store employees (including the manager, i believe) harassing a black teenager for simply taking a couple pictures of the wine selection so she could show her mom. they insisted on searching her bags, and i was worried they were going to try to detain her. they ultimately didn't, but she was visibly rattled & i find this treatment from the shop management abhorrent. i know this kind of racism is commonplace, but it shouldn't be tolerated in our community. get out of oakland with that behavior. get off the earth.

They lock up the store sometime at night. I understand that shop owners are concerned about crime and theft, but honestly it makes the shopper experience horrible. Not only do you have to know what you want and order ahead of time, there are people just congregating outside the shop and a long wait line. I know that they’re clearly concerned about their safety and merchandise, but they don’t care at all if you as a shopper is safe or has a good experience. If y’all don’t want to be open late at night just close early or don’t operate a 7-11 in our neighborhood tbh. The bullet proof bank style ordering system and police cameras “for your safety” makes me feel less safe actually.

I've lived in this area since 2008. I frequent this store only when my regular store is closed. The "Cashier Turnover” is Absolutely RIDICULOUS! I went everyday for a week, at the SAME time and I didn't see any 2wice! Nobody KNOWS the rules. If there are rules EVERYONE should KNOW them and I force them CONSISTENTLY And GET THE F'k off ur fone while u are wearing the uniform!! CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NOT STRESSED OR TRAINED at this location! ESL Classes are NEEDED HERE badly!! ijs

Untrustworthy. They lock their doors, feign they don't understand you, then "ring you up" and expect you to pay without showing you the total or giving you a receipt. $4 for a 20 Oz Coke? Prove it, thieves.
