My stolen credit card was used here because a “new employee” failed to verify the identity of the card user with the credit card(excuse I was given by the front desk supervisor when I called the hotel). I called my bank to report it and fix the issue on my hand. I proceeded to call the hotel and inform them so that the thief doesn’t sleep rent free with my credit card. Upon calling, I was informed that it was a new employee who failed to verify once I asked how the heck can someone check in with my card without verifying their identity(THIS IS STANDARD SECURITY PRACTICE EVERYWHERE). To add on, the supervisor didn’t seem to want to address the thief at hand and how they would be handling that situation, it seems like they want to inform management before doing anything, while the thief enjoys a goodnight. I would hope they immediately try to verify the situation by asking the thief to show ID, and call the police to kick them out. Because, I don’t trust anyone in situations like this, I hope management sees this and follows through, and that the FD supervisor doesn’t brush it under the table.

Best Western Plus Bayside was such a pleasant surprise. The location is on the water with a nice walking path to take a stroll, the sister hotel has a bar with a very nice bar tender, the room is spacious with a deep tub and a balcony over looking the water. It was such a a nice stay for such a reasonable price. I'll definitely stay here again!

We have stayed here several times in the past when we're in town for engagements and don't want to take the long drive home. I called the morning of New Year's Eve to discuss making a reservation. The lady who I spoke with was not very friendly or accommodating. She explained that their volume was up due to it being a holiday. Upon arrival for check-in on New Year's Eve we were lucky to get another employee that helped us with our reservation who was friendly and honored our request for the third floor. We wanted to watch the fireworks from the patio in S.F. The front desk employee, Kayla P. went the extra mile to assist us with our check-in and honored our request, we appreciated her. The following morning we had to walk next door to the Executive Inn for the complimentary breakfast, the front entrance was blocked off so we had to go around on the side to enter. This was an inconvenience, had we known we may have stayed over night there. It was freezing outside as we quickly walked. The rooms are huge with extra large bathrooms, the view is absolutely amazing, and we're going to give it another try in the future. We didn't use some of the other amenities like the gym, laundromat, or the computers. Nice to have as options!

Do not stay here. The staff member that assisted us on 11/18/2023 is a criminal. We checked into our room around 2:30 pm. My friend told the receptionist that we would be leaving our stuff there and returning around 9 pm. He changed our room from the middle of the building to the far end of the hotel near the far end of the building building a stairwell at the end of the hallway. He knew there are no cameras in that area. He conspired with his criminal associates to burglarize our room. When we returned to find our belongings missing we headed for the front desk. After reporting the burglary to staff and returning to our room we had been burglarized again. Within 10 minutes. We had returned to be burglarized. I assume it was a scam. Once you return and find your stuff missing they would wait until you return and drop off more belongings and go report the first crime and they would steal again. Lucky we did not bring any additional stuff to the room. When we returned to our room after reporting the first theft more of our belongings were gone. Do not stay here. Do not stay in Oakland. The night staff seemed concerned but were of no real assistance. The criminal staff member allowed someone to access our room. Since no cameras were near the edge of the hotel room I believe this was an inside job. Do not stay here. Do. Or stay in Oakland.Edit: I have not received anything in my inbox from the others account.

CHECKINGreat checkin experience: fast, friendly, & informative.ROOMThe room was clean, but had a heavy mildew odor. Opening the balcony door helped to circulate enough air to deal with the smell. The electrical is in need of maintenance due to how the lights flicker + long delay when turning on (it doesn't feel like a safe or quality experience as a guest, especially for a $200/night stay). The room lighting is also awkward & insufficient: there's an overhead light above a microwave & refrigerator (appliances which have their own lightbulbs & LEDs) and the remaining 300+ sqft is vast darkness. If your balcony view is unobstructed, then this shouldn't be a problem & you'll enjoy a flood of natural light.BEDqueen beds have a great firmness level with decent support. The bedding is also soft & the pillows are dense.BATHThe bathroom is beautiful at first glance but the plumbing infrastructure isn't well maintained so the sink sprayed & leaked from underneath whenever we used it.WI-FIUnencrypted but very performant.Consistent 90 Mbps Download & Upload.FOOD & DRINKDoorDash/UberEats friendly. The breakfast is actually delicious (bacon, potatoes, & real eggs), so give that a try.NOISEit's by the freeway, so set expectations accordingly... No complaints with guests or housekeeping. Generally peaceful & quiet.VERDICTThis place has a lot going for it: strong customer service, great location, & above average food. The maintenance/upkeep is where they drop the ball & need better management. We cut our stay short because it wasn't the price to air out another room or throw a bunch of towels at leaky pipes.YMMV but in the current state I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you get a really good 3rd party deal.

The manager Jay Consuelo is very rude and unprofessional. I booked a room through Priceline that the hotel no longer offers. And instead of treating me like a paying customer my husband and I were treated like less than people. He basically told me because I booked through a 3rd party I was not a Best Western customer and he owed me nothing. After telling him several times that he was being rude he promptly canceled my reservation simply because I asked for a customer service number. After asking if I wanted what he had available and me agreeing to the room and explaining that we had no where else to go because this was our first time in Oakland and were unfamiliar with the area. He canceled it anyway. We were traveling with our 7 year old grandson. After sitting in our car trying to find another hotel he called the police and said we were trespassing. The police were awesome and told us we didn't need stay there because the area is bad and the parking lot is not gated so the criminals target tourist at this location and break in the cars. They directed us to the Hilton Oakland Airport which had a gated lot also had patio rooms and much cleaner and the staff are friendly and professional. I will forever associate the name Best Western with bad service.

EDITED TO ADD:“Instead, you verbally abused our staff which the public should be aware of, it is not acceptable for our staff to be mistreated and exercise the right to refuse service when deemed appropriate.”^ LOL This did not happen. I apologize if the young man felt “verbally abused” when I repeatedly asked him to stop talking over me, interrupting me, and mansplaining to me that a “business” day (as in 5 business days) did not include Saturday. The rest of the staff were great, especially upon late Friday night check in.I’m quite grateful for the refund you’ve initiated with Experian, and I’m sure someone on the management team will continue training staff for the highest level of customer service.*****************************I had prepaid the entire amount through Expedia. I left my card for their $100 incidentals. They charged my card for the entire amount. The check-in staff were lovely and helpful.I’ve now called the hotel’s front desk, most recently speaking with Jay who would not stop talking over me (wanting to explain that Saturday wasn’t a “business” day). He was so rude, and dismissive it was shocking. So $600 sits in their account when it should have never been charged, but mistakes happen, and once they knew of the mistake it should have been handled immediately.I have left messages for both the manager, and the general manager. No one has returned my call.Stay somewhere where you are charged the proper amount and when there is a mistake it’s rectified immediately.
