Not secure enough! Don’t store here. Your stuff could get stolen.
Friendly staff but not very helpful.
They told me the units are open at the top and thieves get in by jumping over the top (see photo of bent beams)
Someone came into my unit and trashed it and stole items.
I’m moving out asap, I feel anxious with my belongings here and the inadequate security

Honestly, surprisingly great. I dealt with the same (nice, helpful, thoughtful) employee on the phone and anytime I was there in person. In addition to being helpful and knowledgable, she remembered me and things we had discussed 3 months prior when I saw her next which is a rarity in any field today.
Storage was easy to use and well priced. You can uber or walk to public transit, otherwise the traffic across the bridge can be bad depending when you go, so navigate that properly and you'll be pleased.

Extra Space Storage is an excellent facility! It's clean, secure, and easily accessible. The staff is always friendly and helpful, making the rental process a breeze. I feel confident leaving my belongings here. Highly recommend for all your storage needs!

DON’T STORE HERE!! Within one week of moving my things in, my unit was robbed alongside four others. The thief’s broke in on a Sunday (when the office is closed) by breaking into a side door that’s street facing (not behind the security gate). They duct taped the cameras and took $10k worth of things plus irreplaceable family heirlooms.
They got in with a crow bar and fully broke the lock off my door.
I learned my lesson to do more due diligence on storage units. So I moved my things out to Public Storage in Burlingame (which has nighttime security + much nicer facility). I also learned to absolutely have a back up lock (or two).
The staff were polite but didn’t seem to help much. Maybe that’s the policy. Honestly, their response seemed like this was a normal experience. There were delays in phone calls back and help with my questions because of people’s different shifts — it wasn’t until later in the week that the manager seemed to know about it.
They directed me to the insurance claim and wouldn’t tell me anything about the footage or their own police report (not sure if they even filed one). Again, this could be their policy. I don’t blame the staff for anything — so much of this is outside their control— but there was definitely room for communication improvement.
I also have to imagine there is footage available from before the cameras were taped that could genuinely help me recover my items or escalate the situation. I wish Extra Space Corporate would be more helpful too. I emailed the regional manager with no reply at all.
Expensive lesson learned. Please learn through me. Don’t store here! Store your things in cities with better police response (not Oakland), in nicer facilities, more robust security measures and human security guards. You’ll spend the same amount each month and sleep better at night.

Alicia, is a model employee who’s professionalism is truly unmatched. When I came in, stressed out and needing information about how to move forward with my storage needs, she was there to guide me and instead of using my stress as leverage to overcharge me, she went above and beyond and even ensured I was able to get some promotional pricing. Honestly I hope to never be in the situation I was in again, but boy did your employee make the best of a bad situation and ensure I left a happy customer.

I had the most amazing experience at extra space storage. I came in completely stressed out and overwhelmed, but Alicia, took great care of me. She gave me the best deal, and was really respectful. I appreciate her customer service!!! She was amazing!
