started with boot camp to get back into consistent schedule with workouts in the summer .... swim wear ready :) then personal training with Shon to prepare me for returning to weightlifting. As a women in my 50s, working with a trainer who is close in age and fit as hell has been inspiring. If you are looking for a place that is easy, this is not it. If you have a problem taking orders from a person of color, this is not your spot. If you want to challenge yourself and get fit, you will love it. Recommend know-it-alls to leave it at the door, because if you knew how to get fit you would not seek this platform. Happy training!

This place is a true hidden gem! ProAction is: 1) Affordable, plenty of punch pass options to choose from. 2) Extremely clean and not over crowded class sizes. 3) Each class is a unique and incredible full body workout. 4) Last but not least, Shon is an incredible trainer who will push you in all the right ways. She will correct your form and patiently walk you through each exercise. Her music is on point and her good attitude early in the morning is contagious. She is always a great start to my day. I have been coming to ProAction for the last 7 months or so and will continue to do so.

I did a couple of their bootcamps and it was just okay, didn't stand out as something that I'd like to do more often

Shon Reese is the best fitness instructor of the BAY! Although I am a "Robust Black King" at 6'3 in height and 340lbs to be exact! She is helping me transform my mind, body, and soul. I can not thank you enough Black Fitness Goddess!

My fave - no matter what other equipment, memberships or classes I add, I just keep coming back here. Simple, hardcore, effective and welcoming.

This boot camp offers a variety of exercises that work the whole body. Shon provides direction and demonstrates proper form for all exercises. If you're looking to get in great shape with positive and encouraging women this is the boot camp for you! I love it.

I LOVE ProAction!!! I have been attending boot camp at ProAction for the last three years and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. This is a very clean facility. We clean our shoes before entering the gym which is great! The music is upbeat. I attend Shon's classes and she is an amazing trainer ; energetic, upbeat, inspiring, always pays attention to our form and gives us new routines constantly for an excellent full body workout. She is caring, great sense of humor and very professional; always ready to modify the exercises to our individual needs or constraints. I come out of there sweating and ready to start my day. Over my years of attending ProAction, I am SO much stronger and more importantly I never thought working out could be so much fun. And a non-judgemental supportive community. I fully recommend ProAction.

LOVE PROACTION ATHLETICS! I've been going for 6 years now and I love every minute of it. The dedication of the coaches to each work out and the time they put in to explaining and helping everyone is always GREAT ! Making sure that you are always welcome Sarah,Shon and Chrissy give 100 % plus everyday. They help you modify your work out if needed so that you can get the best of it. Within the years I feel stronger than ever and will keep coming back every day.

Turn the music down please! The whole neighborhood doesn't want or need to hear it every day of the year. Seriously considering looking into zoning laws.

Based on the positive older reviews, I think this class may have drastically gone downhill. I can only speak for my experience which was horrible. Like other reviewers, Shon scolded me for not reading the novel of a warning to clean your shoes: "could you not see the huge sign?!" Already this sets a really negative tone for the class. Anything I asked about the class or equipment was met with attitude and was honestly downright disrespectful. I came to work out not have my intelligence questioned. Throughout the class Shon was legitimately doing her own workout on the sidelines, not paying any attention to form or giving any feedback. The class was just an hour of burpees so I didn't even bother to stay, but I still left with tears in my calf muscles because the exercise was poorly planned and even more poorly overseen. I work out 5x a week, including classes and this was one of the worst experiences I've had!

Shon was so disrespectful and condescending when I asked for clarification on a workout. She does her own workout the entire class and does not correct form or offer advice. I love a boot camp class and have been doing them at various places for years and after going back 4/5 times, I decided that Shon's class was just too unpleasant to go back. It's disappointing to leave a great workout feeling belittled and disrespected.

I attended two of my three first classes with Shon and never went back for the third. During the entire class, she was either ignoring us on her phone, or loudly publicly humiliating us (ok, me) for not knowing the exercises despite her lack of instruction. She would look up from her phone, point to the white board, bark the name of an exercise and that was it. If you're in the wrong place or doing it wrong, she will call you out in front of the whole class. The thing is: I came here from years and years of boot camp. I'm not a newbie. I know these exercises, just not the exact way or place she wants them done. What happens if someone is starting from zero? I left in literal tears and haven't been back despite this being an ideal class, location, and schedule.

I recently moved to Oakland from New Orleans. I pre registered online and stopped in this morning hoping for a great workout and a positive vibe. So not the case. I was reprimanded for not cleaning my brand new shoes off properly then belittled for not running in the middle of the mats!!! I asked the girl in front of me if this was the 'norm', I'm pretty sure she was too terrified to respond. Check out Urban Fitness. They rock.
