What a total mess down there. The hell starts outside. Hawkers in the parking lot strewn with garbage everywhere. Riff raff careening through the aisles. I saw one belligerent dude blow by the security guard at the entrance with an open container during Oakland Oktoberfest. Beer selection is always a disaster. Open packages stuffed into shelves. Disorganized and frankly not a enjoyable place to shop. Oh, and check outs are completely understaffed...all the time, so be prepared to wait an extra 10 min or so. The staff handle this nonsense well, it is the management that feeds the dysfunction. The staff are nice despite working in this chaos. Going there in a pinch but am not making this my store, despite being just 3 minutes away.

Zero stars. Chronically understaff and with extremely rude, unprofessional employees. Lines with 12-15 people, constant stealing with no intervention by guards who are usually busy chatting with customers or on their phones. Have witnessed 3 robberies of cases of Modelo Beer in the last 2 weeks. And we wonder why Safeway is so overpriced?!

This store is great, if you don't mind airport level security, consistent long lines and hostile Management . Some of the staff are nice, but this feel is like Times Square in the 1970s.

AGAIN - Machines did not ring up my items correctly. This time Safeway over charged me $11.95 - none of my Just 4 U rang up. I had to wait for customer service to get refund. Why can't Safeway fix Just 4 U? Every time I go, there is an issue. I scanned all sales with my phone. I asked why they were not rung up correctly & the Customer Service person said I did nothing wrong - it just how they ring up!!! Really? CHECK YOUR RECEIPT!

I shop at Safeway because it didn't feel grimy. But the company has been going down hill. Haven't came here in a long time. They have a whole new set up because of theft. Place is beyond gross. Felt dirty shopping there. Sadly this is our new reality. Shopping in a cell with a bunch of rude staff. If you forgot to grab a cart, so sorry you can't go back out. You gotta skip through the line and out one exit, just to grab a cart. Cash register person doesn't know how to properly bag things. She got mad when I asked her for a bag twice cause I thought she didn't hear me since she didn't respond. She threw all my fruits in the bag and shoved it down the bagging area causing my produce to bruise. I try not to use self check out because I believe in jobs. I am now convinced after this experience to get rid of all cash registers and replace them with all self check out. I was fed up with the environment. Security guard is rude about the alarm going off because I went outside to grab a cart. It's not my fault the set up of your store is not consumer friendly. You didn't have to yell at me in front of everyone. It's a small damn store with little selections. Go to the farmers market down the block, this place is run down and tired out. You will not feel safe parking your car in the parking lot either. Had people outside harassing me walking to my car. They got security to protect their produce not their consumers. They should just change their whole company name. If you must shop at Safeway and got the gas money. Drive up towards skyline because the one a Mountain Blvd is safer and the workers are nicer.

The store manager, is very racist. She yelled at me and my fiancé and my daughter my fiancé was helping me , give her my ID because I suffer from Lupus and stiffness in my hands and she starting to yell at us, and that she's wasn't going to sell us our product because he handed her The ID she threw our bag at us twice, then grabbed it back then threw it again very rude made me shake I wanted to cry and. We kept calm but wat if it was another person, They need to change Manager's. Rosalie Smith is her name

Tonight, the folks at the Fruitvale Safeway really made my day. Last night I accidentally left my wallet there. Sunshine, the cashier whose line I was in, was so polite and friendly, even late at the end of the day, that I especially noticed and appreciated it at the time. Fast forward to today, when I realized I'd lost my wallet! As soon as I walked in, Sunshine told me they'd put my wallet aside, locked up for safekeeping. Everyone was so nice, and I just felt grateful that they cared, and took good care of my wallet. That really made a difference for me.Thank you!

I love this store. It's a safe, clean well stocked store that has become the community store for me and my family. Rose, who is the new Store Manage is friendly, and results driven. I've seen a real change for the better since she has taken over management duties. If you need a place to buy your groceries that has plenty of parking and a friendly staff, consider visiting this store. Matt says, I'll come back again often.

This place should be investigated. Its dangerous, dirty, not higenic and just all around sketchy. Has to be the worst Safeway in the bay. I really avoid coming here because theres always something going on outside or in the store. Place needs better security. I most certainly would never buy meat here as it looks spoiled on most occassions.

This Safeway has the least amount of selection of any of the Safeway's in the area. The liquor cabinet is locked and it takes forever for someone to come and open it. The lines in this place are always long and slow. Towards the end of the night they only have one cashier and a bunch of people standing around not doing any help to move people out of the store. It's very frustrating to not be able to find what you went there for and then to have to stand in line (Only to almost get in an argument with someone who was not in line that you were there first. And then to go around the corner and realize there are 10 people standing in line. Worth the drive to the Broadway and 51st store.

They have the worst curbside pickup in Oakland. Spare yourself the 30 minute wait and drive the 15 extra minutes to Alameda.... Or literally anywhere else in the world.

For the first time in my bougie life, I was ACTUALLY FOLLOWED AROUND a store ... and by the creepiest-looking "Security Guard!" I was in an isle, looked up from label-reading, and there he was standing next to me. I nodded "hi" but then he turned his back to me -- like in the movies -- when someone is following you then looks the other way & starts whistling after you spot them! At one point, I thought maybe he was gonna ask for my number or something LOL! When I finally got in line, there he was again. So, I nodded 'hello' and he pretended to not hear me. Maybe it was my mask? When I got to the cash register - he stood near the front entrance watching the items being scanned/me paying. I finally passed him with my cart and said "Happy Thanksgiving!" Weird. Where was I supposed to hide the bright yellow roses, giant bag of dog food, bright green bottles of sparkling water & family packs of soap, Sir?!
