I have bought a number of Sobu pieces over the years (couch, side table, pendant light, and most recently dining chairs) and adore all of them! While the staff have always been very helpful, I live a little further away now so tend to just order online because I know which pieces I want and their delivery has been speedy and fantastic. Their pieces are incredibly well-made and beautiful and are quietly rugged enough for daily use without showing barely any wear, and strike the balance I love between modern and nostalgic. It's amazing to find a local store that's my go-to for nearly all furniture and homeware I'm looking for, with the added bonus of avoiding big box retailers!

Great furniture and great customer service. I’ve bought a black ash dining room chair for my wife every year - we have 3 now, and while the price is solid for what it is, it’s expensive for us, so I wasn’t going to buy a set all at once. They are good looking, lightweight, and sturdy. I’ve had one delivered, picked one up in Rockrodge, and picked one up from the Berkeley warehouse. Staff is friendly and helpful every time. They have discounted items for sale at the warehouse, I think on Saturdays.

We came across SOBU on Instagram and were immediately drawn to the products and style. We’ve purchased a rug and side table and couldn’t be happier with the customer service and products. We ordered another rug soon after and are sadly still waiting on it three months later but the team has been good with sending updates. If we lived closer, it would be dangerous as we’d probably buy everything!

Greatly enjoyed working with the staff at this tasteful furniture/ decorative shop. Interesting collections of tables, chairs, decorative items. Flexible with returns. We are loving our new side table which fits in perfectly in our home.

I absolutely love my new custom sectional sofa! Laleh and her Sobu team were very helpful with helping me place the order. The white glove delivery was included in the price and all went as smoothly as possible. It’s really nice ordering furniture from kind people. I love Sobu and have purchased many things for my house from their shop. They have an incredible rug selection as well. I always love seeing the new well edited items they’ve designed and chosen for the store and their website.

Sobu is the best! I'm a designer and source pieces from them for almost all of my projects. Their pieces are beautiful, quality and they always have a wonderful selection of rotating work by different artists and makers. If you are in Oakland definitely pay a visit to their beautiful showroom!

My partner and I searched for more than a year for dining chairs to replace a decades-old set that were literally on their last legs. The chairs had to match a black ash Mackintosh table. We were not in a mood to spend a huge fortune on them. Six of Sobu's Sven chairs in black ash were the solution. This is a small neighborhood shop, but they have their own line of sturdy wood furniture designed in California, made in China, at sane retail prices. We first bought a single chair and took it home to try out. Sobu is willing to sell pieces for a short trial period, and accepts undamaged returns for a refund. In our case, that wasn't necessary. We ordered five more Sven chairs--delivered from stock, no charge--and that was that.

A few weeks ago, I purchased the LEVIATHAN LIVE EDGE DINING TABLE - SMOKED ACACIA from the SOBU warehouse. I had been searching for a solid live-edge wooden table and visited various stores, but none of them felt right. I was looking for a table with clearly visible knots, something more rustic, and with a thick board. Although I found some good options online, I wanted to see the actual product before making a decision. I called the store and was told that it was on display at the warehouse, so I went there immediately. I fell in love with the dining table at first sight and bought it right away!
Later on, after some thought, I decided to buy chairs as well because they matched the table perfectly. I also emailed Alessandro (Owner and Designer) to inquire about a bed set that would match the table. Unfortunately, due to the size of our house, we couldn't purchase it from SOBU, but I really loved their design. Alessandro and Nick were very kind and helpful, and I appreciated their assistance. The design is very refined yet sturdy, and I am extremely pleased with it. Ever since I got the table, it has been fun to go to our dining area!
Someone once said that furniture is something you see every day and it reflects a person's character. Surrounded by truly beautiful furniture that I love, my days have become more vibrant and I am very happy.

We love love LOVE SOBU and ALL of the gorgeous furniture and home decor they create and sell. We've slowly been furnishing our space and have very happily purchased several living and dining room pieces which have been not only stylish but also strong and practical for our family with young children (hard to imagine - but they've figured it out). We love that we don't have to compromise on style in order to check all of the other boxes of things we need from our staple furniture pieces... We will be buying more from SOBU and couldn't recommend them, more highly.

What a wonderful gem of a store!! The selection of furniture, rugs and art pieces is incredible — beautiful, unique and gorgeous items. It is design center style and quality but at very reasonable prices considering the quality.
The team at SOBU was also incredibly helpful. We bought two large rugs from them for our home. We bought one and were so happy with it that we immediately came back and bought another. While we were deciding they gave us large samples to take home so could see them in the space. They also offered great design advice along the way. And they helped us find great rugs in stock (not always easy in the design world). They were incredibly patient, responsive and helpful — both in person at the store and over email.
Love the selection and a great experience!! Highly recommend this wonderful store.
