After not doing any strength training since pre-pandemic, I could really tell the difference in my upper body strength. At 71, I knew I had to do something if I was going to keep my level of daily functioning at its best. A friend from Menlo had been recommending Perfect Workout for years , but I thought it was too expensive. An then I thought ,what price would I pay to be be strong and healthy in my senior years? I signed up for a year and although I have only attended 10 sesssions in 5 weeks, I can feel my strength returning. Thank you to my Personal Certified Trainers, Minh Hang and Matthew Lau , for your patience, your encouragement, and your expertise. You are really making a difference in my life.

Expensive, but SOOOOO effective. Great reliable trainers (I have only ever dealt with one, with a few substitutes when he is on vacation), they play to my strengths and build up my weak spots. I have seen amazing results.

My trainer, Erik is incredible! He’s always pushing me a bit and doesn’t seem to be bothered by my complaining and wanting to slack off. He’s very kind and understanding about my personal issues and needs.

I joined Fitness SF last month and have to say, am really glad I made this choice. From the start, the team there did a great job of explaining my options, letting me trial a few gym sessions (including classes) and answering my questions. They also offered a free fit session, to help me set a baseline for my fitness goals.

Skip the corporate gyms. Planet fitness is a complete joke. Blink, retro, nysc etc. while they may get you in the door w their low monthly rates. Trust me you will regret it. And try canceling, they will charge you and charge you until you go to war with them for months. All the horror stories are true and those low rates dont last.

This place is very close to my home and easy to get to. There is usually easy parking, at least when I go there. The workouts are great, designed for people who are not necessarily athletic. I don't have to wear special workout clothes. When I started, I had to use both hands to lift the coffeepot--now one hand works, and I have started losing weight.

When I decided that I wanted to start working out after twenty plus years of nothing, I spent a lot of time checking out all the gyms close to my apartment in Park Slope. I decided to go with Harbor Fitness and I don't regret my decision at all. Whether I'm going in at noon or midnight, there's always a friendly face to welcome me there. All of the equipment is clean and working, the attitude of everyone there, employee or member, is positive and I've never felt uncomfortable. A special thank you to my trainer, Brenden.

Had a free trial session with Justin and was very impressed. The place is clean and quiet which, combined with the slow steady movements that their system is all about, made the workout an almost meditative experience which was very different than the hyped up (and to me unpleasant) sensory stimulation at most gyms. Justin was sensitive to my concerns about injuring my body while it is coping with a chronic disease and was encouraging and supportive and clearly knows his stuff. I was surprised at how good I felt driving home and decided to stop off and walk round the lake before going home. The only complaint I have is that the company is very "shy" about revealing their pricing on their website so I'm here to tell you that if you do 2 sessions a week which is what they recommend, it will cost you between $60 and $75 per session depending on whether you sign up for a 4 or 12 month deal. Is that too much for a 20 minute session? I guess it depends on your income. Will you get the results you want for your money? I think the answer is yes.

Q in the Oakland studio is the absolute best!! I started working with him 6 months ago to get in shape for my wedding, and even though the wedding is over, I'm sticking with it because I love the results and I love working with Q! He is not only super knowledgeable and has a great sense of humor, but he completely tailors your workout to your specific goals. Whatever you want to focus on, he will build a workout around it. And if you don't know, he'll help you set goals. I always leave feeling better than when I came in, and would recommend Q to anyone looking for personal training.

Never, ever have I said "I miss going to the gym".... until NOW! I have stuck with this program. I have lost weight and I am stronger! I have been scuba diving for 7 years and NOW am able to hoist myself up with all my gear on (about 50#) (from a seated position to standing without help or use of a railing). I was so surprised and pleased when I did it! I started out leg pressing #165 and now I'm up to #255! I FEEL stronger. My clothes fit differently. I have also been eating sensibly (no concentrated sweets and less carbs) and have lost 14 lbs in 3 months! Justin and Q have been amazing in helping me stick with my plan and reach for my goals. I can not thank them enough. They push me just enough (way more than I would do on my own!). I got my roommate to start and she has been doing great with this program too. I HIGHLY recommend The Perfect Workout in Oakland (3 blocks from Kaiser) and Justin and Q!

Introvert Workout Heaven! I was a dancer and athlete growing up, and even rowed in college. Back then, I was literally ripped, my nickname was "6 pack" due to my abs. But, while never a morning person, one benefit of being on crew, was at 6 am, the only other folks in the gym were the ROTC folks, who sometimes joked that our workouts looked harder than theirs. Fast forward 10 years, and I would go to the Y and drift through the free weight section appalled at the crowd, smells, and sound of classes nearby. I never liked any gym other than the college gym, nearly desolate at 6 am or late late before closing. I used to belong to the "nice" gym down near City center and the Y, but not for 13 years. For a while, I did Pilates in SF on my lunch hour, back when lunch hours were still a *thing* (remember that?). But ever since then, have never found a class or gym that I felt compelled to join. Most are loud or smell bad, too non-starters for me anymore. And now that is is 25 years since my 6 pack days, the whole spandex scene is just not something I have any desire to participate in. Actually, I have no desire to do a workout that requires a shower or dedicated wardrobe. Also, I have minimal tolerance to suffer. I did marathons back in the day to see if I could. I know I can, and I know what it takes, and I no longer want to. I have friends who joined the cult of crossfire and know that isn't for me either. Also, a series of injuries in my late 30, and my previous atheletic abilities caused me pause, since I seemed more prone to reinsure myself by jumping back into things I "used to do" with ease. Enter the perfect workout. This is heavenly. It is quiet. It is pristine. No TVs. No spin or aerobics instructor with a microphone yelling in the next room over. No music I would rather not listen to. No ridiculous grunting from a crowd of WWF wannabes. The slow and deliberate weight lighting is both incredibly difficult, but calming and meditative at the same time. I reminds me of ballet instructors counting out slow bar exercises. There is no "scene" there. It is sort of Zen or minimalist without trying to be in an awkward and "precious" way like so many different studios hoping on that bandwagon. It isn't punishing. It isn't grueling. It is just really really effective. It's goal is not to take over your life. It is not a "lifestyle." it is a kind of liberation from the more more more fanaticism that seems to be part of the overwork and over workout culture at large. Queron Reeves is super down to earth, supportive, and encouraging. Even though I am woefully out of shape, I felt totally comfortable telling him about various challenges regarding the state of my health. And he helped push just enough to push past what I thought I could do. But not too much. Just more of a gentle nudge.

This place is great! Encouraging and helpful. I wasted so much money on gym memberships in the past and never went. I go to all my sessions and look forward to them. And I am getting stronger and feel better every month!
