A Chinese market, good price and selection, worth a visit in you're looking for Asian grocery.

Tons of selections in Asian food, pretty good prices. However not a comfortable place to shop. Big chance to encounter rude shoppers or cashiers every time. The atmosphere there was unfriendly. I go there once or twice every year for Asian goods. Fanny thing is that every time I told myself not to go there again lol. But really loved their frozen beancurd sheet, it’s great for hotpot.

Won Kee is a Chinese grocery store that has mostly everything that you need from with fresh meats, live seafood, veggies, your usual Asian grocery necessaries, and more. They closed their small parking lot (I believe since Covid) and they put out boxes of fresh veggies there instead. Parking is very difficult here, since it is always busy in the area and parking is metered/street parking - if I cannot find parking, I usually would drop my grandma and mom off at the front, and I would circle around or find an area further away to park, until they are done and I will pick them back up at the front. The exterior looks small and tiny, but the interior is actually bigger than it looks from the outside. It is a bit dirty and kind of smells inside with bad service, but you do not come here for the ambience or service, so it is tolerable to some extent. The cashiers are very rude - also, make sure you check your receipts afterwards because a couple of them will try to overcharge you, then get mad at you, if you point it out, but the only downside is that the receipt is written in Chinese.

???...I have been coming to this Supermarket for awhile now...However, I just got robbed out of a dollar at this market near Oakland Chinatown. Not only people get robbed by criminals off the streets, but apparently; businesses are getting into the act. Unfortunately, I didn't snap a picture of the price displayed before someone changed the price while I was in line for over 15mins. They were arguing and pretending they don't understand English ?????. Can't argue with these idiots that only understands English when THEY needs assistance. In any event, gotta remind myself that these fools are scandalous ??????

Personally not a fan of Oakland Chinatown Chinese markets due to cleanliness, organization, correct translation of produce signs, common courtesy of shoppers, and proximity to the smell of fish markets.

When waiting for the last person to show up to shop in Oakland Chinatown, we had time to kill so we bumped into Won Kee Supermarket (WKS) after we parked our car. I noticed on Yelp it's average of 2.5 stars so I was skeptical... But after being raised in a Chinese community, I have low expectations so I was expecting a subpar experience but frankly, WKS is pretty good in my books. First of all, I was impressed with its covered area that had a decent produce selection where the offerings were bagged and nicely displayed. Pricing was considerably much lower than what I pay back at home and I'm always in awe of the pea shoots of its freshness and much lower prices. Second, the canned and packaged goods were also arranged nicely and I was impressed with the extensive selection. I saw many items that we don't have back at home. Furthermore, they also had fresh meats and live seafood, too. I was kinda sad where I saw live turtles though. I found the interior to be well kept as it didn't have an odor nor a dingy appearance. Customer service is what I expected from a Chinese business. It was somewhat disorderly when seeking assistance and standing in line to pay. Despite there were 2 distinct lines to pay, I witnessed elderly Chinese making their way to the front regardless people were standing in line. I waited patiently until it was my turn to check out as I found some Chinese snacks to bring home. WKS accepts plastic but it has a $20 minimum purchase. Overall, a somewhat impressive first experience shopping here at WKS. If I lived in this area, I'd be game to shop here regularly.

Horrible line up system‼ I could not wait to write this review of the awful experience I had today. Now I know why won kee has a 2 1/2 star review There were 3 cashiers. I was next in like and the lady behind me started a new line. The middle cashier closed and told me to move to the far right. The cashier on the left called the lady behind me and when I said I was next and I was in line before the lady behind me was even there. Awful service here. Go shop someplace else. I'd like to give this place zero star but otherwise I could NOT post this and people need to know this place is horrible

Overall is good. But one of their cashier should be really mind her manner. The one who stand in the middle during lunch time 7/12/2023. Yelling at customer. Throwing items on the counter aftering scanning. Throwing the receipt. Being so emotional and giving attitude to customer. Shame on you!

who cares about the service when they have such a great name. if it is wonky they are just living up to their name. it is fun to walk the aisles to discover new items.
