i went to Ed's recycling around 2pm on a tuesday and it was closed. Since i spent my morning sorting and separating, then loading all my recyclables, i had to take it somewhere -and the other ojai valley location in Oak View is now closed (I heard Ed's recycling bought-out the other location ??) - so i had to drive to Ventura, to the recycling off the avenue on Olive St. they were pleasant and open! thankfully. Only one place to take recyclables in the ojai area is such a bummer. its time consuming and then a gamble to drive down only to see they are closed.

Whitney in Community Assistance was so nice and helped me to obtain assistance in getting help with the payment of overdo utility bills.

I can’t imagine how rough it must be to deal with these people when you’re in need. I was unfortunately contracted to do a “charity delivery” for them through my delivery company, and the folks at this nonprofit treated me incredibly disrespectfully. They were rude, condescending, and gave me inaccurate information. My company compensated me for their mistakes; but I would avoid dealing with these people if at all possible.

I did not have a positive experience and will certainly never donate money to a place that has no real services for seniors. I recently had a fracture that has meant I am not able to walk for a few weeks. They had no wheelchair available to borrow, so I purchased my own. When I called about referrals for in-home care the woman on the phone was sarcastic and said they don’t provide any recommendations for help to seniors (I am 66). She did say I could come in and take a free yoga class. I’ve taught yoga in Ojai for 25 years and definitely wouldn’t suggest driving in and participating in a class to someone calling with a fracture in a wheelchair. I will now call them NO HELP of Ojai.

Help of Ojai certainly does some great work within the community, and for that they should get more stars. Unfortunately friendliness and people skills don't seem to be prerequisites for staff, so that aspect of the organization has been sort of a hit and miss for years. However another (more recent) negative move is the organization's decision to become political by changing it's mission statement - jumping on board the pandering train. This was clearly unnecessary, as the original mission statement was perfect. And to be fair, the first sentence of the new mission statement would have been fine all by itself. But apparently someone with an agenda to push has been successful in at least partially derailing the trajectory of the organization. I hope they fix that.

The helper was rude.

This is the greatest community helps program. Among other things, you can borrow medical equipment like a wheelchair, bath seats etc at no cost.

Great, convenient place to pay your gas and electric bills. Just one of the many services they provide that I've used so far.

Such awesome services, we are lucky to have them in town. They helped me find what I needed for my grandparents that I couldn't find on my own (walkers, etc.). Super helpful and friendly.
