The people in the surrounding areas are poverty stricken so it’s convenient for them to shop here for groceries. However as someone out of town, visiting this location felt very unsafe and sketchy. I had gotten many stares and people were looking at my bag. I would not visit again.

The McGowan Dollar General used to be an embarrassment. Having this store first thing off the freeway was tragic. But all that has changed! No longer are the shelves half full and the aisles blocked by unpacked product! No longer is the parking lot and landscaping full of weeds and garbage! The shaved ice vendor is still in the parking lot, her coconut cream is the best! But going inside for cash made me want to take a shower. Now the store looks good on the neighborhood! Why it took so long to get good management when the store was so very busy we may never know. But, like so many DG's, it now makes a profound and positive impact on an underrepresented community. And, now there's a taco vendor in the parking lot too! Woohoo! Tacos!

Just came out of this store feeling like the mistrusted stranger. Ok m, I’m brown and I was wearing dark glasses but they’re prescription and it’s a sunny day. I looked down each aisle - because I’d never been in a dollar general before and was just browsing the goods. Still it seemed they were watching me closely. I picked up some lighters and put them back. A worker had to look around the end of the aisle - checking if I still had them? When I went to pay, I asked if I could use Apple Pay and the clerk responded that I could but it wasn’t working because “I’m not even ready on my side.” Um, okay - was just asking if they had it. Very uncomfortable shopping experience, and the deals are so-so. Won’t be in again.

When I think of Dollar General, I think of rural poor communities with no other infrastructure Dollar General works. I'm not gonna say it doesn't. I will tell you the concept is good, and I applied the company for building stores in areas that a normal business would not dare to build, they bring jobs and subpar food And groceries to an area that otherwise wouldn't have it this particular Dollar General though definitely needs some help. It's over packed isles are frequently closed and they never have enough staff at the register if you're headed to the wheatland area anytime soon that Dollar General is a bigger nicer store. It might just seem like it's bigger and nicer because there are less people there every time I go because there are more options in Wheatland than there is in all of hurst off of McGowantwo stars it does what it's supposed to, but it doesn't blow me away and I dread going in there definitely two stars

Leticia and Dianne are the absolute WORST people I have EVER had to deal with as a customer!!! I am completely and absolutely disgusted, as well as appalled, at the way they treat their customers!!! They mock and make fun of people, cuss at them and demean them and make them feel like they're not worthy of shopping at "their store", as they called it.... I have shopped at this dollar general since it's Grand Opening, but I have NEVER been so disrespected than I was after having to deal with these two "women"WOMEN, don't act the way these two did, or treat other women the way they did. They're an absolute disgrace!! :(

Store associate lies that that bathroom was out of order and shooed me away to use Chevron. There was no sign saying the bathroom was out of order and her tone of voice says it all. I hope they run out of business for that kind of attitude.

This is the only Dollar General in town, and they are fast, friendly, and efficient. The lines do get long, as they are so popular! Olivehurst "Food Not Bombs" gets many of our items here on sale to support our mission of feeding and caring for the needs of the unhoused in Olivehurst and Linda. Please support this Dollar General, they are doing their best. They are under new management and the new manager is a wonderful man who is working hard to clean the store up. They are faced with an overwhelming number of unhoused people who make the parking lot a mess. But the inside of the store is very clean and the customer service is amazing!

I really love the convenience of cross the street DG. The new look and products are terrific and the store is always clean. That's important to me. The staff is so sweet. Diana is so funny and knows her store. Ruby she will always stop and direct you to what you need. Missy she's so sweet and very helpful. The staff is GREAT!

Decent selection especially In a pinch. Wouldn't recommend buying the chocolate it looks like it melts and rehardens often.
