Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park offers a great park experience with much to offer, from camping to hiking and wildlife viewing. Visitors find the information center extremely helpful, with staff available to assist in finding the best activities. Trails can be busy at the beginning, but it's possible to find solitude after walking a short distance, allowing for an amazing experience with the absolutely gorgeous, majestic, and ancient groves of redwoods. The park features serene and majestic places, with many quiet and easy paths leading to astonishing views that highlight the sheer scale and age of the redwoods. Recommended hikes include Trillium Falls, trails adjacent to the Drury Parkway, or the James Irvine Trail. Fern Canyon is described as a once-in-a-lifetime experience, accessible via hike or drive. Elk Prairie campground provides a good place to camp, though some facilities are a bit old, the location is hard to beat. Visitors will likely see Roosevelt Elk in the prairie meadow, and it's possible to see giant elk on the beach next to ocean waves. The park offers a wonderful combination of views, drives, trails, and wildlife, ranking as one of the best state parks to visit. Parking can be tight at some trails, but plenty of space is available along the main road. Rangers are also noted for their helpfulness, including engaging children with forest ecology discussions.
