Another misleading business, no emergency services are provided here without an appointment apparently(?). Despite it stating so on the services tab. The woman on the phone directed me to 2 other vets in town and said they could provide me emergency care and both places would not. Update your information so people aren't scrambling for help you don't want to provide.

November 2023 by Ana Can't think of a last name
I went back and forth the last couple of days on whether I would say something or just move on. I can’t move on. I came to California on vacation and during my vacation my dog became sick. His eye was swollen, oozing gunk, and bloody around the white of his eye. So I called around to numerous vets trying to get him in. This vet clinic by the grace of god got me in….theres where the good stopped. After waiting in the lobby for a half hour after my scheduled appointment they brought me back. They put eye drops in my dogs eye to see if he had any abscess. Even though it was just his right eye that was infected and absolutely nothing wrong with his left eye they went ahead and gave him another eye drop that cost me an additional 100 dollars!!!! Just to say oh yeah nothings wrong with the left eye! The vet then mentioned the possibility of pink eye, but after questioning me she came to the conclusion oh it must just be a food allergy so I asked her, “does that mean he has pink eye??” She said no no it’s an allergy, so I asked her “so he’s not contagious then?” I asked because we were staying at a family members house with another dog and I didn’t want my dog infecting him. She said no it’s an allergic reaction to something he got in to I wouldn’t worry about it. 238 dollars later MY FAMILY MEMBER DOG NOW HAS PINK EYE!!!!!!!!! So I paid 88 dollars for the exam 50 dollars for the right eye to get checked then an additional 50 dollars for the left eye that showed NO infection what so ever to get checked! Just for a vet to misdiagnose my dog and now my family members dog is suffering as well! Before the “owner” makes some B.S. response like “we are so sorry for your experience please email us at this B.S. email that we will completely ignore you, we’re only saying this to make it look like we tried to work with you!” Yeah save it!! You’re lucky I don’t sue your practice!

Ive taken my pets to Dr. Dent for years while he was still across the River in Thermalito. Of course I followed him to VCA. There are a few long term people that I really like but with the severe veterinarian shortage and Dr. Dent semi retired, they're far too busy now, and it's suffering! I had really liked Dr. Duran as well. Sorry to see him go. I feel really badly for them! I hate that they had to be signed under the VCA umbrella honestly. It's taken away from the community aspect in certain ways. I do hope it has helped them however! Vets are hard to find because of the lengthy schooling it takes, nearly as long as a regular doctor!! There are NO incentives! That said, veterinarians also do NOT make alot of money!! Unless they're a specialty doctor! Even then, it's not what you think! They're in it for the love of the animals only! The desire to help them. That they've had to join VCA to not only be protected monetarily, but insurance wise, medication prices, workers comp, fees, permits, and the endless amount of taxes that keep rising, says much about how utterly over regulated and ridiculous the politics of this state across the board, are!! This is an anti small business state to add to that! It's extremely difficult to have a successful small practice here! Small business of any type!! So give your vets a break the next time you have issue!! You have no idea what they deal with!! Be kind! They're killing themselves for years to take care of our animals, not a lot of gratitude from clients, but plenty complaining, they're exhausted continuously from the hours put in, the emotions, with no real income to cover all expenses that go with owning a business!! Only business owners understand all!! And it doesn't mean you're automatically wealthy when you do own a business!! Hardly! Not even close!! I gave it four stars, simply due to the VCA aspect, but not because of the folks that work there and the care given.

Update! VCA commented on this review asking me to contact them personally via email with my concerns. I did so immediately and surprise surprise, they completely ignored me! I took one of my dogs to Oroville Animal Health Center today and it was like night and day. If you use VCA, switch to Oroville Animal Health Center asap. Friendlier, more professional, clean, and cheaper!I have four dogs and every time we visit VCA for a wellness check, the doctors and nurses are completely uncaring. I brought my 2 year old in today for his first wellness check and the vet felt is back, looked at his tummy for an old rash that had healed, and then left. She didn't check his teeth, ear, joints, nothing. $300 later and the receptionists are writing me off because I complained about being charged for an exam that didn't happen. This place is filthy and unprofessional. I have not had a single good experience and I just moved to the area. Not a good welcome to Butte County at all. The male doctor is super creepy and doesn't seem to know how to interact with dogs at all. The female doctors literally wouldn't even look me in the eye and left after two minutes. I had been waiting for over an hour each visit. This place is a scam.Edited to add, they removed my review from their website. Good job on transparency, guys! No one should ever trust the health of their pets with you. Seriously the worst vet I've ever used.

Nurses are rude. Doctors make you wait for over an hour then spend two minutes with your pet. They charge for services that they do not perform. The building itself is dirty. Worst vet in Butte County.

Dr. Durham is a wonderful vet and I highly recommend him. I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews of this place, but my experience with Dr. Durham has been really great. He has always followed up with me regarding any issues with my pup (labs, etc) and is very kind.

Oroville VCA provided me with an appointment date only 2 days away from me calling! Every other vet in town has at least 1wk-1m wait time for an appointment! I was amazed by their availability and then by their professionalism! Once I showed up I was impressed by two separate waiting areas for dogs and cats! The cat side was very quiet and relaxing and my kitten didnt stress at all! Once I'd filled out a form, I was taken immediately into an exam room with my kitten. The Doctor and nurse were punctual and polite. The Doctor made me feel welcome and that he was truly listening to my concerns about my kittens health. He worked with my kitten so beautifully, I was amazed at how gentle he was and how willingly she allowed him to examine her. In the end, the Doctor gave me foolproof instructions and provided me with peace of mind. A goodie bag was also provided to me as it was Misty's first vet visit, which included a 1 month supply of Revolution topical parasite prevention, a heavy duty laser toy, an even heavier duty plastic ball with a jingle bell inside, a stuffed cloth mouse, and multiple informational pamphlets. I left their hospital paying only $115, including my exam fee of $70 and the treatment/medication costs! 5 stars for Oroville VCA!!!!!

My experiences with this office have become increasingly worse since they became vca. Its to the point i cannot even reach the office directly, but have to go through a call center to reach anyone. It took 30 min of being on hold just to learn that they cannot fit my dog in this week for a limited exam of a new injury. I've been taking my dogs here for over 10 years and before me dad took our dogs here for as long as I can remember. I hate to leave as the veterinarians themselves are wonderful and the team there has always been great, but unfortunately it's time.

Dont take your pet to Paul E Dent DMV he euthanized our beloved 17 year old dog. It was horrifying. Dr Dent said he would be injecting an overdose of Anastasia that would put our pet to sleep in 10 seconds. Instead as he pushed the syringe in our poor dog began howling in agonizing pain as his body contorted it wasn't untill i started yelling at him "whats going on! do something! He Dr Dent then administered a 2nd syringe that ended his botch job and our poor dogs agonizing final moments

I do not recommend coming here for euthanasia. The vet who administered the shot to my dog spoke loudly during my dogs final moments with me. I wanted my dog to hear my voice before he went to sleep and I wanted peace and quiet as I processed my dog’s dead body. He was not compassionate at all for the situation we were in. I’m beyond disappointed that the final moments with my dog were filled with the vet saying loud unnecessary things that I already knew about euthanasia and payment.

What they lack in compassion, concern and empathy they more than make up for in greed, indifference and rudeness.

Such kind and helpful people work at this VCA location. They've helped us through puppy births, sterilization and today, the very unexpected death of a puppy. They were so professional and helpful. Got me right in, helped me with options and then helped with baby. I cannot say enough great things about the front desk staff, the boarding staff, vet doctors and technicians. All top tier.

Amazing staff. Fair prices. Most importantly, They truly care about animals and it shows. I have been to every vet clinic in chico, and this facility is by far the most compassionate towards animals. Not only that, the wait times are not obnoxious like Chico VCA, and the vets actually spend time with you, validating your concerns and worries about your pet. The front desk staff are great too. I can’t recommend them enough.
