awesome fundraiser "Bark for a Cause"!! we had a BLAST!!! ok, we are "addicted to" dog rescues [Peace of Mind Dog Rescue, NorCal Boxer Rescue & the last several years, Animal Friends Rescue Project. We love the heart, organization, focus & success of these groups. Today's "BOW WOW RESCUE PROJECT" a total hit: the venue had to be changed SUDDENLY because of rain, but Rancho Cielo Ted Taylor Youth Vocational Ag Center was PERFECT venue; caterers "The Butcher's Pit" had most delicious pulled pork, brisquet & side dishes, the AFRP staff was ON & so welcoming, Roger Reedy excellent MC, of course we love MICHELLE STARR, our ALL-STARR dog sitter for a couple "generations" of dogs x 5 1/2 yrs, the wine guys [sorry, didn't get name, but excellent], the basketball team greeting/directing staff so ON, the guitarist/singer STEVEN SHOOK was mesmerizing [YOU WOULD BE WASTED IN RETIREMENT. NO RETIREMENT!!! THE WORLD NEEDS YOU!]....obviously, we were smitten with our experience [& we go to lots of pup fundraisers]. Looking forward to Monterey Co. Gives when we can $ support AFRP again. [yeah, we worked 6-7 days a wk, 12 + hrs a day for 50+ yrs to support these grps]

Horrible. We were so ready to adopt a pup. I left 4 messages on the phone, we sent in two applications and sent emails. We NEVER heard anything back from anyone. Really disappointing and I feel really badly for the dogs that are looking for good forever homes. We ended up getting a delightful pup from Hitchcock Animal Services in Salinas

The directions and address are wrong. They actually moved across the street, but they don’t have a forward address on the old building and they do have one for the store which is five blocks away. What a stressful morning. Three workers at one location and no one was able to admit that they are brokers from the shelters to place pets for a fee. No direct drop offs here, go to no kill shelter that’s registered with them first.

Not just everything to support rescues, but provide everything for those who do. Well-stocked by a caring set of customers.

We had adopted 2 small dogs from AFRP ... wonderful experience...and anyone who questions the cost of adoption...shouldn't.... The costs of caring for an animal in the rescue facility grows daily as they're in there, plus any medical costs they've incurred... They are the kindest people... our Ozzie loved going in to visit every time we walked by and they were open. Adopt a rescue !!

One of those most reliable rescues for any aged animals friendly and passionate “Dogs have a way of finding the people who need them and filling an emptiness we didn’t ever know we had.”

Just sharing our experience bc lots of people had the same or worse experience.I would love to know what their standards for adopting and answering people are. We filled an application and just heard back because I emailed them asking for a response days after the application was sent. Their response was that the dog we were interested in was being adopted already plus we could not adopt their dogs because we live out of their county (we live in a very close county). They didn’t ask more questions, didn’t want us to visit. And guess what?? The dog is still available after 3 weeks from their response. Also curious to know if they don’t accept donations out of county either.Glad they did what they did though. We ended up adopting our sweet baby from an amazing shelter in San Diego.

Animal Friends Rescue Project is one of the most wonderful places to adopt a pet on our Peninsula. I've adopted my 3 precious fur babies from them over the last 25 years and each one came to my home healthy and already had felt love. I give AFRP a 5 star rating and if there was a 10 rating I'd give it a 10!

I filled out an application in early August of this year have left numerous voicemails with no call back, I called back 3 weeks ago and got a real live person who told me she would have someone call me ASAP, guess what, I have heard nothing. I lost my 13 year old dog to cancer earlier this year and was looking forward to adopting a new fur baby, I wanted to get a rescue who would love an amazing loving home, guess AFRP will NOT be the foster place I adopt from. I was warned by a few people to not bother with AFRP because of their reputation of never getting back to possible adopters. I am grateful these fur babies are in foster care but on the other hand if you have no intention on letting them go to wonderful people please stop advertising them. The dog I applied for is still in there website. So far this experience is very disappointing. And as of now I DO NOT recommend them. PR

Sophie Snow provides excellent service!! I spoke with her on the phone, but I felt so well-heard and she helped me to understand the entire animal adoption process. Sophie got me excited about adopting a cat and she answered EVERY question I had. Absolutely best service I have ever received and she has now set my standard for phone service very high!! Sophie Snow showed superior understanding and all I can do is hope that all of my future service calls are as smooth as my call with Sophie. She has gone above and beyond and deserves all of the appreciation possible!! Thank you Sophie?

We have adopted adult cats (Serena and George who we adopted when they were 3 and are now 9) and a puppy (14 years ago. Sadly LC passed on 6/16/2022) through AFRP and would not hesitate to recommend this wonderful organization to anyone looking for a forever friend. We are not ready to look for our next canine companion (the pain is still too much after LC's passing) yet, but when we are, this is where we will begin our search.
