All together I am pleased with their care and service, though I find the charges for the health care rather hefty. A few issues are that the attitude at times is not quite friendly. I get the Doctors and their team are likely often busy and may have a lot going on. Yet, I believe genuine kindness and hearing some of the concerns addressed would as well be helpful.

My dog showing a lot of alarming symptoms, I couldn’t get her into my normal vet quickly but VCA PG got her in within 2 hours. They took great care of her and it ended up being an easy problem. They were highly professsional and clean. Thanks VCA PG for being awesome!

I brought my pup to be tested for Cushings Disease. While there I inquired about getting his vaccines up to date. The veterinarian decided to give him DA2P-Pv. He had an attack of diarrhea in front of the veterinarian after the shot. I took him home & he was falling over and not drinking or eating. I called Ocean View back and they told me to bring him back in. They gave him a shot of Benadryl and sent me on my way stating that next time they would give him Benadryl before any shots were given. During the night my pup had bouts of diarrhea & vomiting. That morning I called Ocean View and was told to bring him in. Upon examination it was determined that my boy was very sick & needed IV fluids as he was dehydrated. In order to be able to get 24 hour care, Ocean View referred me to Blue Pearl. Unfortunately we had to put our brave dog to sleep as his condition deteriorated. After many years of trusting Ocean View with our pets care, we are now going to another veterinarian in the area.

We have been thrilled with the thorough and caring attention we have received from Dr. Shaupp and the staff at VCA Oceanview. They are well organized, professional, and go the extra mile. For example, I was at another vet and complained of an odor with my dog. Her anal glands were not checked but at VCA they do it without being asked and that solved the problem. Their front desk is easy to work with and Dr. Shaupp has really taken her time to explain what is going on with our dog.

I have been with VCA for quite awhile now. We came here from another state and decided to stick with them because we had such a great experience. I have not had the same experience here in Pacific Grove. I have been out and out lied to, misled and swindled. We had our pets on the care club plan for their puppy shots and keep getting auto renewed even when I ask not to be. When I asked to have the care clubs canceled because I did not ask to be renewed and was told we would have to pay the plan out in full to stop it. I had to finally get their corporate offices involved and still did not get truly helped. When our baby girl passed away I also thought we could just call and cancel the care club since she was no longer living and they said we had to pay it out as well. Our current experience was just today and I have never been so disappointed. I have repeatedly given this hospital a chance because I have great memories with VCA and didn't want to leave but it looks like I will have to.

I have a cat that is diabetic and uses insulin. He has been a patient at VCA Oceanview since he was a kitten. I found my vial of insulin had broken and I was out of insulin. It was 5:30 in the evening and I called to see if I could buy a vial of insulin. The associate that answered said she would have to call the Dr. to get approval to sell the insulin. She called back and said the Dr. had denied the request and said I should make an appointment and bring my cat in for an exam and lab work. I explained that he needed his insulin this evening and that would not help. There action told me they are not about caring for the animals but are more interested in padding the bill with services that were not needed at the time.

The doctors and staff at this hospital are fantastic. However since big corporate bought the practice they have decreased hours while advertising for new clients, and COVID hit so they are overbooked. If your pet gets sick they have no openings for 2-3 weeks and ship you off to emergency hospital. Even getting through on the phone is a challenge. I feel sorry for the staff, I know a lot of unhappy clients and I imagine the staff takes a lot of heat from clients. After 40 years I called the hospital manager, told him I was leaving because I couldn't get care when I needed it and to transfer my dogs records to another veterinarian who has time available.
