I contacted the center to simply voice my opinion on how unspiritual their Easter Service was in 4/09/23. Below is the response I received. Abundant GratitudeDear Steven,Thank you for sharing your disappointment. Our Center and our messages aren't for everyone. Obviously, from your critique of our Easter Celebration, Spiritual Center of the Desert is not in any way a good fit for you. I'm so grateful because I don't know you, you are not an identifiable financial supporter of our Center, and your opinion really means nothing to us because you are in a minority regarding our Sunday's service and messages. The many comments we have received have been praising our Easter service, especially the chant. I would rather have Nadine Risha at our Center every Sunday doing her chant, than someone with a judgmental consciousness and closed mind. There are many fantastic churches in the valley. I pray you find a church/center that resonates with you. I'm sure I and many of our congregants would be bored at the type of message that you would enjoy.. Our congregants come to Spiritual Center of the Desert because it's not their parents' church, and the messages and love they feel each Sunday resonates with them and feeds their soul. --Love & Blessings, Dr. Laura ShackelfordInterim Co-Spiritual Director Spiritual Center of the DesertThis woman has no business being a Spiritual Leader.

To Be or Not to begin…..I listened to a recording of this service on 7/25/21. It was very good and made you think. Rev. Dr. James Mellon talked. He had a discussion of proactivity vs. reactivity. Of course reactivity is the mode that people are in 60% of the time. But proactivity is what we must strive for. Reactivity is power. Revenge transforms into a new beginning, of sorts. Not a good one! The service had some good music associated with it. Take a listen……

This is my home away from home! When I am there I have a strong sense of family and I have been taught so much about true love and acceptance from god and people!!! I have found that when I keep religion bound, true freedom can resound!!!Thanks CFSL for helping me to be me!!

I did not request the Center for Spiritual Living Palm Desert to contact me, but they started calling my phone and leaving robo call messages.I have asked them to stop, as I want nothing to do with them, but they continue to call. I have blocked their calls, but they continue to leave messages.Today, I have reported them to the Federal Trade Commission, since they do not respect my wishes and continue to call my cell phone.

Pastor Joe Hopper is a very gifted man, spiritual, funny, entertaining. What was an amazing job of the founder to bring Joe to Palm Desert almost 20 years ago from Redondo. Redondo Beach Spiritual center is not doing well because they choose stiff boring Catholic woman. Joe attracts people from all over Desert, Same Diego, LA. Everyone is welcome, no matter of your religions background, because we all / Muslims, Christians, Catholics, Jews / believe in Jesus Christ!

The inspirational music, the spiritual and energetic sermons and its acceptance to all, make this church a great place to call your place of worship. October through May, this church has three separate morning services. The church also offers many self healing activities throughout the week. There is typically a sign language interpreter at the 11AM service. The parishioners seem to keep to themselves and appear to come from many faith backgrounds ( Catholic, Jewish, Agnostic and Spiritual). Church funds do go out and help many noteworthy local causes, including animal shelters, underprivileged children and other community efforts to enrich lives. Safe place for the LGBTi and women where no slurs or poor ideologies are accepted.

This center has change my life. Through the teachings it has taught me to live a pro active life instead of a reactive life, meaning that I do have the power to change my life for the better through the power of my thought. Miracles do happen every day and the Center for Spiritual Living Palm Desert teaches you how to create your own.

Raised Catholic, I was looking for positive messages that were applicable in today's world. I also wanted a spiritual place that welcomed people from all faiths all lifestyles and orientations. I didn't want a total old school Bible replay of verses and wasn't interested in a church who worships the Bible but rather the wisdom of the ages from various Spiritual sources. I found the Spiritual Center celebrates that there is One God, the Divine and also embraces that all religions are taking "different paths up the same mountain." I like the intellectual approach to learning and growing and especially positive questioning and inquiry on being a spiritual being. All the Ministers give great lessons (notice no preaching, no top down attitude.) Dr. Joe makes you laugh out loud, every week. I like his talks which weave contemporary lessons that we are all more similar, than different experiencing desire for positive spiritual growth. I leave feeling extremely uplifted and having spiritual lesson flashbacks all week long, unlike my history of showing up, drowsy eyes and leaving having learned nothing, just having put in obligatory time. Having taken many guest to our Sunday church "talks," all guests leave inspired and thank me for the experience. By the way, the message will be inspiring but there isn't any evangelical hand waving of shouting "Hallelujah" which is not my style...Just learning and laughing and being uplifted in a diversity welcoming Center for Spiritual Living. Come visit and see for yourself, my guess you will be glad you did and have positivity flashbacks all week!
