This review is a combination of good and bad, because the Kelly Moore paints we ended up using for our house were excellent. We liked the colors and the fact that we could order large paint chips for a small charge to hang on the walls before we made our choice. The negative was the unfriendly service we got 2 out of the 3 times we were in the store. Whoa! Lighten up a little when you get a customer ( we were usually the only one) - some real grouches working here.Adding the fact that the contractor said that the person in the store this week was not helpful to him at all. Shrugged his shoulders saying we don't have that color without visibly checking. That did not leave a good impression.

My experience at Kelly Moore Paint Shop was mediocre. While the personnel was pleasant and willing to assist, the store seemed chaotic and cluttered. It took a long time to choose the correct paint colors, and the store didn't have a large assortment of things. The prices were also little higher than I had anticipated. While I was able to find what I needed, the overall shopping experience could have been better.

In my experience, this (Palo Alto Page Mill Road) Kelly-Moore store is exceptional. Robert is outstanding with his help, knowledge, patience, and time. He listens, anticipates issues, helps avoid unintended consequences, patiently explains paint and alternatives and options, and goes out of his way to resolve the situation and/or project. I am not a knowledgeable painter/contractor; I am a consumer with a lot of questions and for whom paint projects are a challenge. Gerardo and Paul, working with Robert at this store, have also always been helpful, courteous and efficient. For various paint projects and paint, I have had to contact and visit a few different Kelly-Moore stores, and Robert, Gerardo and Paul at the Page Mill Road store have always provided excellent service.

I needed one more gallon to finish a job, but they told me they were all out of 1-gallon units, but offered a 5-gallon. I bought the 5-gallon to avoid a long drive to another store. Based on my observations of employee behavior, I am led to think they had 1-gallon units but were just trying to sell me more paint than what I needed. Anyway, the product was adequate.

I was looking to get a paint match to a Pantone color and went to Home Depot and didn't have any luck as I only had the Pantone number of the color that I needed. I decided to go to Kelly-Moore which was right near the hotel where I was staying as I was in town for business. The paint was to do some accent walls in the new offices/labs we just moved into to perk up the visual of the space. Robert and Paul were incredibly helpful in searching their database to see if any one had ever requested the color and sure enough, they have a number of formulations for the color. Robert mentioned it is too bad there wasn't a rating scale on the formulation to know how good the match was. Between Robert and Paul looking at the various formulation, they picked one they decided would be best and it was super close! They mixed me up a color sample quart and it worked great and I came back for a gallon the next day. Robert and Paul, you guys ROCK! Thank you!

Robert, Paul, and Anthony were wonderfully helpful and managed to fulfill our entire order despite having supply-chain problems. They also worked with us to answer all our questions about specific products, and we came away with all our needs met. A lovely experience!

This Kelly-Moore Paint store has deteriorated a lot in its custom paint color match. This KM store also has poor customer service. I went to have a custom paint color match on Jan 10, 2022. It turned out that the "matched" color was way too light (see photo). My painter lost the old sample and I had to take out a downspout bracket as the new sample to this Kelly Moore store. A KM store salesperson seemed to doubt such mismatch color and he would not believe me if I could not give him the old sample. He stated that he would not waive the one-gallon paint payment for the mismatched color. I was very surprised to hear this even I did not request such a payment waiver. I told him that I can "eat" this gallon given that I paid much more for the painter and we lost the old sample. I reiterated to him that this was a very bad match and offered to call the painter who took the sample. My painter can testify to this fact. The salesperson stated that "we are not Home Depot, we always 100% match" and again doubted my statement. But he did not want me to call my painter. He also challenged me "why didn't you bring this new sample (a downspout bracket) last time"? What customer service? I visited this store numerous times. There were two salespersons with poor customer service. A senior salesperson intervened and instructed the younger salesperson to do what the customer needed. BTW, a KM store often called the customer when they complete a custom color match. They did not call me on Jan 12, 2022, in my case. I had to call them to find out. An update to the review today (1/25/22), one day after the first review: This morning, this KM store did call me when the paint was ready. I went to the store and requested to see the match of the paint. One gentleman (likely in his mid 30's) helped me, patiently opened up the paint can, got a bit of paint using a new small brush, painted my sample (downspout bracket). This time, it was much much better match than the prior one, which was Malibu Beige. When I came back home, I found that the new paint is just a bit darker than my sample (see photo). So, I went back to the store. Another gentleman (likely in his 50s) came to help me. After I showed him the sample and the darker color area, he told me to ignore it. He said that's the best they can do to match it. But he would prove to me that the new paint does match my sample. He used a small paint can opener to get a small dip into the paint can and apply it to my sample in a faraway area. He forcefully hit my paint can very hard with a hammer to close it. When he handed back the sample to me, I took a quick look and couldn't find where he painted. He sarcastically said, "See, you can't even find it. Let me show it to you". He picked up a pen, marked my sample and forcefully threw his pen into a pen can. I told him that he dipped into a too-small of an area and pointed to a larger area for him to apply the paint. He seemed very impatient and reluctantly opened the can, got a bit of new paint using his paint can opener, scratched my sample with his paint can opener and applied more paint to my sample. He kept saying "there is nothing more he can do for the match", "do not mess up with the new paint, it's as good as you can get". After drying my sample, he handed the sample back to me. I immediately saw where he applied the paint: there were a couple of bubbles in my sample (see photo). I told him that he should have used a small brush to even apply the sample. There was a bit of silence and a couple of customers walked in. I then asked him to give me back the new paint. He asked me "what can I do for you?". I told him that "Nothing. You already told me multiple times that there is nothing you can do. Can I get back my new paint? Why you threw your pen so hard? Do you know that it took me half an hour for a trip to this store? Do you know that I wasted half day last weekend due to the mismatch of the prior paint?" I suspect that he

Summary - Don't come here if you need custom color matching. Their quality has declined. We have been coming here because of convenience and generally they are knowledgeable. Selection of paints and supplies is unparalleled. When we have needed to match prior paints, they have been able to do this in the past (more than 5 years ago) with no problem, spot-on color. Fast forward to last week when we needed to finish up some drywall work I did. The color is a neutral beige, should have been easy to match. I brought in a piece of drywall and ran into the first problem: they said it would take 2-3 days to mach the color. Before, it took about 10-15 minutes. OK, not a huge deal, but annoying. More critically, when I got the color back, it was completely wrong, way too light. When I asked about why this happened, I was given the explanation that "paint fades with time, so it doesn't usually match perfectly." Umm, the color you gave me was already too light. He then said "when paint fades, it gets darker." WTF? Are we speaking English or 1984 doublespeak? He then said when the spectrophotometer gives us a color match, it is usually too dark so "we lighten it up a bit." So what you are saying is that instead of matching the color I want exactly, you override it and give me something I can't use. And no, they won't re-do it. If I bring the sample back, they will do exactly the same thing. Bottom line: If you want some generic paint and you have the color code already, they can probably manage that. If you want to color match, don't come here. Oh, and expect to pay more than other places

The staff here are SO helpful. I was picking out colors to give the contractors to paint our house. The let me take a bunch of paint chips and a paint fan. It was so helpful to take the actual chips to the house. This is my favorite Kelly-Moore store.
