I have 3b/3c curly hair and have been seeing Abigail for about 3 years now. I love chatting with her and always feel so incredible and beautiful when I'm done! I always come in with unhelpful and vague ideas of what I want, yet somehow Abigail takes all of this input and gives me a beautiful cut and blowout everytime! Highly recommend this studio. As an added bonus, it's also so gorgeous and airy on the inside.

8 years with Isabella!! That speaks a lot for itself! I have been coming to this place for so many years and have got my hair color done from Isabella all these years, she is a magician! She knows exactly what I want and how I want to wear it, she makes the perfect color for my hair and advises on how to gradually lighten the shade without damaging the hair. The space is so chic and comfy, all the staff is friendly and very warm! I have recommended this place to so many friends and they are all going here now.

Couldn't be happier with my experience here. Popped in this week to see if I could get a consultation after Pursuit salon in Los Altos botched a very simple (yet expensive) baby lights with money piece. They not only accommodated me for that, they were able to fix it in an hour flat. I sat down in the chair after waiting less than five minutes and Kaycee and her lovely protegé tended to me with surgical precision. Not only that, they comped it and provided great tips on how to care for my compromised, bleached hair from the previous salon. Will absolutely be back.

I cannot say more wonderful things about Vanessa and Alexis at S&W.
Vanessa is a wonderful hair dresser, who listens to your needs & comes with clear + creative solutions. I’ve gone to her several time now, and particularly love the way her cuts grow out — I never feel icky in between appointments.
Alexis: I’m specifically writing this review because I know you (reader)! You’re trying to find who you can trust with something that you keep on your face every single day. I haven’t colored my hair in years, and was a little unsure when I came to see Alexis. She thought about it, took her time, and created a wonderful color palette for me.
I’m really grateful for the time, attention, and care both these ladies have given me, and highly encourage you to check them out!

I've been going to Spoke & Weal for many years now and love Kaycee (for color) and Abigail (for cut) :) I always leave with big smile and feeling prettier than when I walked in. Totally worth it!

My normal sytlist cancelled on me last minute (different salon) and Meghan had a cancellation and thankfully, the cancelled times aligned. So happy with the experience and my cut. Very calm and relaxing spa environemnt and I've never had so many compliments on my new style. Thanks Meghan and S&W - I'll be back!

Highly suggest the SF location over Palo Alto. Different quality of service, as well as the style of conversation with the clients (a comment from the five-year client).

Gianna always does an amazing job on my hair! I have extremely thick and curly hair which can be a daunting challenge for many stylists but Gianna knows exactly how to style my hair perfectly! I can't recommend Gianna enough :)

I've used the salon just once for a haircut and am definitely NOT going back. I don't at all agree with their dry cut methods and can't believe others tolerate it. Definitely AVOID this salon for cuts, since every stylist takes this same approach. The stylist took a full 1.75 hours! The process was a laborious sectioning and clipping up of hair, followed by straight ironing sections (!) and snipping and thinning (with thinning shears, who uses those in 2023??). I swear 100,000 tiny shards of dry hair feel down inside the neck of the gown and under my shirt and bra -- so irritating and itchy. Worst of all, the stylist asked me to tilt my head this way and that for about 50-60% of the cut. The resulting cut is not at all what I would ever want. She took off a full 2 inches of length!! (even though I only agreed to 1 inch) That's criminal. And my hair looks very fuzzy from all the random texturing on the outer layers, wreaking all the good work my previous stylist had put in to maintain a pristine, smooth facade. This experience has really enlightened me to all the great practices my normal stylist (AT A DIFFERENT SALON) incorporates to get a great cut and smooth, shiny hair. She cuts the hair wet and is able to shape and thin it without compromising smooth outer layers. I don't need to bend my head every which way to make her job easier -- she can visualize just how it's going to turn out once dry based on her vast experience cutting hair. I'm definitely going back to her (even though she costs more money). I'm so done with Spoke & Weal. The women there also seemed kind of catty. I just didn't sense a good vibe there.

I'll start with the good: the stylist was professional, the head massage was good, and there's good technique in the haircut. The bad: I wish the haircut were longer. I had been growing my hair out and was enjoying the length. I came in looking for some shape and structure for all that hair. I also offered a reference photo clearly showing a longer mens haircut.Had what I asked for been delivered, I'm sure this would've been a 5 star review. 3 stars because it's good work, it's just not what the client asked for. And now I have an awkward growing phase to go through before I get to enjoy the haircut I asked for, which is unfortunate and inconvenient.I'd be apprehensive to return.

I recently visited Isabella and had an absolutely extraordinary experience!! She has such an impressive knowledge of hair coloring and effortlessly delivered exactly what I needed. She recommended the perfect shade and technique that suited me best, resulting in vibrant, glossy, and natural-looking hair. The overall experience was outstanding, and I highly recommend Isabella if you're looking for a highly skilled colorist who truly understands and cares about her clients' needs. You won't be disappointed!

Abigail is amazing! She listened to exactly what I wanted without having an actual picture, but overall vibe. I asked her for layering that didn't compromise my density ... and also, I was wanting to camouflage some new awkward hair growth I was having towards the front of my face. Mind you my hair type isn't thick or super fine, I am in between, I have medium fine hair but a lot of it. Abigail went above and beyond and even offered to go shorter in a couple days if I changed my mind about the layering, however, as of today I am in love. Best haircut I ever had! Highly recommend dry cutting, well worth the price, Abigail is your girl!

I write this in the hope that no one wastes their hard earned money or any time here in Palo Alto. I do not want to go to a salon that treats myself, family or friends - anyone in this manner. Each person here including the owner, Liz, has complete disregard and disrespect for their clients. This whole experience was unprofessional and like nothing I've ever experienced in the Bay Area or anywhere for that matter. It's very sad really. It was awful, dreadful in fact. I know two past clients -who also went here and strongly warned me NOT to go to this location . I hope no one ever experiences what the 3 of us did. Ever! This is the most unpleasant and unprofessional hair salon any of us have ever had. Three separate people who were otherwise unrelated just wanted a great cut and color. Each of us were made to feel less then and completely ignored. There was another patron who walked in clueless as to how to get to where she needed to go as well. I helped her as a favor. I assume this is how things are done at Spoke and Weal. Poorly. The employees are late, unapologetic, confused, complacent, dismissive, and rude. Kaycee - a colorist - called to remind me the day prior of my booking and asked if I was someone else? When I said "no," she then asked if I knew this other client and if I was friends with her? Seriously?! So weird and laughable. The worst part was, after a brief, unpleasant & uncomfortable visit, Kaycee told me not to bother coming in for color unless I booked with her once a month. She said I had to represent her as a stylist. Wow!! No thank you! Color costs $450 per service. To begin, I ended up arriving on time & was ignored. No hello, nothing. Kaycee - the colorist - and "mean girl #1" was 20 minutes late and said nothing to me when she walked up. She gave me a bored and blank look and did not ask me to sit anywhere - she just assumed I would sit in the front chair. No one there could be bothered. Kaycee said next to nothing to me, hardly looked at my hair and gave no direction what-so-ever. My hair was in a bun- still nothing. She made no suggestions regarding color. She looked bored and completely checked out. Blank stares and aloof, two word answers was all I got. I was appalled at the lack of emotion and complete disregard for anything or anyone showed at this so-called salon. Then I waited for 10 more minutes (now 30 minutes late) to see a cut stylist. Side eye glances amongst the stylists at the hair washing station were exchanged and a smirk or two... then I asked when the cut stylist may be coming and then received a really rude comment from Kaycee letting me know she was coming. She was not. She finally showed and I told said cut stylist about my bad experience with Kaycee and she first conveyed how much she loved Kaycee and then made it seem like I could go elsewhere or see another colorist who was on maternity leave. Seemed strange as who knows when the pregnant stylist would return. I was then told all stylists work together and she was sorry. So I assumed not much could be done. There was a lot of discomfit from her which caused me discomfort, of course... but it was clear they all ban together and do not take clients opinions at all seriously. Bad business practices all around! Stupidly I booked a hair cut, but that was even torture. I was given different times, but with so much attitude and disregard. I should have walked out before ever being seen. As soon as the delay of 20 minutes was near and no one could even greet myself or any other client who walked in the door - should have been our cue to leave. It was a waste of time, energy and frustration! You are meant to check in on an iPad that is hidden on a shelf! They all work together at this franchise - so don't bother with their other locations. It is one for all and all for one at this place. It takes a lot of nerve to treat people so poorly. Luckily we have choices in this world. This is no way to treat others - ever, in business or otherwise.
