If you care about others, donating blood at Stanford Blood Center can help so many! My platelets are given to premature babies. The Stanford Blood Center has a great staff that will make you comfortable and welcome during your donation.

Been giving blood at Stanford since 2000. This is my facility of choice when appointments are available. The staff is smart, always good conversation to be had. They are very knowledgeable and are on top of things if someone shows signs of being light headed or needing assistance.Keep up the awesome work and will be back soon. :)

This is my fourth donation of the year. You are allowed to donate every 56 days for whole blood , which is what I donate. Everything went smoothly. Got a good parking spot, was greeted right away, answered required questionnaire, got my blood work and vital signs done and donated blood! And finally treated myself to all the goodies at the snack table for the required time limit so they know you tolerated the blood loss well and won't faint on the way home. It is fairly easy to find, parking is usually available, people are nice, place is clean. It was a great day and for a good cause.

Drove 30 mins each way on my lunch to donate them blood, was told because I had a minor surgery a month ago they didn't know if i could donate Fine, i have a prescription from my doc to donate if necessary Sorry sir, fill in all this paperwork then come back in a month then pay us so we can take your incredibly desirable type O- blood, the blood thats so valuable that red cross calls you up about every week asking if you can come in and spare some more. With type O- I should be getting velvet rope and valet parking, but instead I'm being asked to pay to donate my own blood. No, just no.

I like donating here. You get a free movie ticket on Mondays and POG juice. What's not to love? In addition they sent me a free t shirt last year and you can log in and see your history online to see your blood pressure, hemoglobin and stuff like that. Stanford took good care of my Dad when he had a heart attack years ago so I try to give back. You can't help but feel good about donating. Highly recommend this place. The people are super nice too. *** UPDATE 12/18 ***** As a BONUS, I just realized I can log in to see what my cholesterol levels are! I was just told that high cholesterol runs in my family. Until today I didn't even know what high cholesterol is, and had never seen my own reading. So I logged into my SBC accont and looked it up and learned I am right on the border of having high cholesterol. In the past I've always tried to drink nutriblasts and eat super healthy before a visit but I couldn't pull it off this time and BOY could I tell a difference in my cholesterol readings. They were usually pretty low but I see they shot straight up in this last visit. I do not have health insurance at the moment so this is a really helpful bit of information. Sorry SBC, I will try to be a little more healthy before I donate next time! I did try to drink a few healthy shakes before I came... just not for DAYS before. And another bonus is, you get points for every time you donate, and you can get free stuff (in addition to a free movie ticket on mondays). Go donate if you can!

I've been donating to these guys since high school! I come to Stanford in Palo Alto because I like the staff and there are plenty of shopping and food areas to meander around after you donate your blood and eat the cookies. :) The building is new and well lit. It's very open and welcoming inside... which is what you want when you drain people of their (replenishible) life source right?

I like donating at this locating the best. Very clean. They have upgraded to a new check in systems. Makes things faster. Monday's are a zoo. Mondays are Free movie tickets day. Either way make an appointment. The parking is up front for the donors Also they feed you after you donation Don't skip the POG juice. Good stuff! If you are brave and want to give plasma. It's much faster now with the single tube system. Also if you give plasma you can see the wonderful people at Stanford Blood Center more often. Whole Blood People can donate once a quarter. They need blood, they always need blood, once a quarter is not too much to ask.....And if your blood type is O you are like GOLD to Blood Center

I've been a platelet donor for the past 15+ years on a monthly basis. ALL the Stanford Blood Centers are top-notch. To Sharon C, wah wah wah, the receptionist doesn't know your name, what a whiner! Do you know his/her name without looking at the nameplate? Get over yourself. Yes, platelets take a while to give and if you've been a regular donor you know that it's not quick. Do whole blood if your under time constraints. Calcium is depleted during donation rapidly because of the blood anti-coag that is included in the IV during your donation (it is also the reason you get a metallic taste and it's the reason for the tingling). Sensible people who have this sensitivity (I have a rather severe reaction to the anti-coag myself, so I know. I get all those feelings and complete lock jaw, if I'm not being responsible enough to tell people around me), to counteract this reaction, request Tums upfront and let the techs know you are sensitive to the anti-coag. Also, make sure you have a flavored drink to sip to remove the taste, hard candy works too. No, there isn't a nurse standing next to you the whole time, they are working the room, taking intake interviews, cleaning machines, readying beds for the next punter, bagging and tagging blood and samples and handling deliveries. The world isn't revolving around you, Princess! Don't be put off by nay-sayers. I'm not doing this to get "stuff". I do it because I have a rare blood group and Stanford call ME monthly for donations, every month. The best calls are the ones where I am an exact match to a patient. I've had to time my donation because the recipient had to undergo procedures in order to receive my "chicken soup" (because, that's what it reminds me of in the bag). When you donate to a specific patient, or you've been told that your baggie is being rushed to a baby who's depending on your gift, does it matter that it took you two hours to give it? HELL NO! This gift really can be life to someone. My smile can't get bigger than after my monthly "oil change". Do this! You might just change someone else's life for the better.
