We came in on a Saturday afternoon without an appointment to do name changes across our 15 accounts, and Melanie spent over an hour helping us through the process with unfailing patience and kindness. When we hit a roadblock, she figured out a creative solution to allow us to get the job done anyway. Could not recommend Melanie, or SFCU more highly. Thank you!

This is the bank to go with specially on your first day at Stanford University.A very helpful friendly staff exists in this branch.Just go in with your passport and University acceptance letter and you're set to go.

Stay far, far, far away from these clowns. The only reason their business model works is that they prey on students (TEENAGERS, SHAME ON YOU) desperate for a $25 referral bonus. After that, you'll never hear from them again, never be able to contact them, and they'll swear they're doing you a favor.Y'all are a dumpster fire.

Juan was super helpful in getting me a loan when I was a freshman. I have a complicated issue where it made it difficult to get started and he helped solve it. Highly recommend him for FLI students and students in general. Since then, he's also helped me with auto loans and he's well involved in the community. Would give him 6 out of 5 stars if I could.

Worst. Bank. Ever.

This is the worst bank of all time. You should keep your money and run to the nearest credit union that isn't run by complete idiots.

Waiting in line for so long and they pulled me to different waiting lines... then I was waiting right behind a person and they put another person jumped in to the line ahead of me. I understand that there are some priorities but they need to clarify that before hand rather then randomly determine who should come first.

TL;DR Good option if you're a Stanford student on campus. If you're not, there are better and more competitive options. Pros: - SFCU will open accounts, including credit cards, for (international) Stanford students and help them build credit. - On-campus branch for those who prefer live tellers. - Many ATMs on campus (although not a deal-breaker as people go cashless). - The student package waives many fees for students, which is a great deal compared to most other banks and credit unions. - SFCU is part of the CO-OP network, which means you have free/cheap access to your accounts nationally, through branches and ATMs of other credit unions. Cons: - Customer service ranges from lacking to dismissively rude. - Poor interest rates on deposits. - Credit card rewards not competitive. - Their technology is outdated. For example, withdrawal notifications are not real-time - they notify the day after a transaction is posted. - Similarly, as a smaller credit union, SFCU contracts out too much of their processes to rather incompetent parties. For example, it took me three phone calls with non-SFCU reps to reset the PIN on my SFCU debit card.

Since joining I have had nothing but amazing experiences with the credit union. Their fan credit card is one of the nicest looking credit cards I have ever seen! It is so sleek and I feel so cool using it. To top that off! It has no foreign transactions fees! Not to mention I JUST got an email that they are adding 2x points on dining on top of their grocery 3x points and gas 2x points! Why would I use anything else! I am also a big fan of their same day ach transfer. You can legitimately transfer money to a different financial institution before 11am and it will post the SAME DAY. I will be moving all of my services over to them and utilizing them for everything! Big props to the credit card department and the call center they are always on top of their stuff every time I call!!!! I did have an issue one time with depositing money at a different credit union and they fixed it ASAP! Thank you Yaja! I am so happy with my credit union!

I've been banking here for years because it's convenient due to its location. But finally the incompetence, number of gross errors (sending mortgage docs to the wrong people etc and other breaches of privacy), and unfriendliness has driven me out. So long SFCU.

BEWARE THE AWFUL SERVICE MENTALITY AT STANFORD FEDERAL CREDIT UNION Don't go to Stanford Federal Credit Union for a mortgage. I did. My friend recommended SFCU for my mortgage loan because he had a great experience with mortgage consultant Steven Finn. My experience with mortgage consultant Keith Sennett was awful, truly reprehensible. Talk about a snide, condescending, bullying experience. In our first encounter Keith Sennett stated that SFCU lends in all 50 states. But Keith Sennett encouraged me 3 times to seek a local loan instead. I live 90 miles from SFCU. I thought, WTF? Keith Sennett was constantly rushing me to submit documents, citing that 35 days was a short escrow time. In response, I suggested a face-to-face meeting with my documents in hand. Sennett demurred, saying " I don't know how it works in Stanislaus County but here in Palo Alto we work with lightning speed." He also said that Palo Alto was a long drive and I might have to make it several times during the transaction period. A 90-mile drive is not a long drive for me. Perhaps it is for him. I thought WTF? I wanted to address my grave concerns with Keith's boss, Saul Montes. I emailed Saul Montes and cc:ed CEO Joan Opp. Curiously only Joan Opp replied by saying Brian Thornton, Montes's boss, was going to follow up on this situation. I guess this does not involve a phone call or email to me. Opp also said Saul Montes told her that he called and left a message for me and did not hear back. To date (It's been three weeks), I have received no call, heard no voicemail. Pretty gutsy of Montes to lie to his CEO. I'm still thinking WTF? Opp said there must be some sort of miscommunications. I agree. It takes two parties to communicate. Where Sennett is concerned it takes two parties who respect one another to communicate. Sennett is disrespectful in his communications. In my dismal experience with Sennett and SFCU, SFCU is unwilling or systemically unable to communicate except at the CEO level. For that I want to thank Opp. But she might want to look at the people who report to her. They are awful. SFCU has great rates, the best I was able to find. But with people like Keith Sennett "selling" a "product," a client has to go through a snide, condescending, bullying gauntlet. I won't stand for it.... I withdrew my loan application. Any prospective client of SFCU mortgage department ought to run away as fast as they can. I wish I had CEO Joan Opp as my mortgage consultant. She is the only one at SFCU that has treated this client respectfully. And I still say WTF?
