Absolutely amazing service from competent, kind people with common sense and even consideration for just how much veterinarian care costs in this area.

Reasonable service and doctors. But EXTREMELY unpredictable and whimsical hours! The hours of operation sign outside says they will be open on Saturdays from 8am to 5pm. I am here at their hospital on Saturday at 10.20am and the place is closed! I called their number and there is no indication about the hours of operation.Another problem I have with this VCA Palo Alto hospital is how it is almost impossible to get through to a human when you call. All on all I would give this place a solid B- (B minus) grade!

Everyone is wonderful and helpful. Brought my dog in for a procedure. The receptionist went above and beyond to find us a same-day appointment, explain the pricing, and after care. Dr. K took the time to call us twice before and after the procedure to keep us in the loop and get our consent. They also texted me the day after to check in and answered all my questions. Everyone is super nice and clearly loves what they do.Would give more stars if possible.

We had a tragic experience with this vet. Our 5-year old cat had trouble breathing and we brought him there for an unplanned check up for an entire day. The diagnosis was allergies or potentially light asthma. Two weeks later, our cat suddenly died of what appears to be HCM (a heart disease). We had no knowledge of the possibility of a heart condition or that it could be fatal if untreated. We are heartbroken and can’t stop thinking we may have been able to save him if we had gotten a diagnosis or even just a suspicion of something this serious.

I was very sad and shocked to lose my sweet little Sophie, a kind and lovable Maltese whose absence is still fresh in my heart, even though it has been almost a year since she passed. Even so, I was treated with such kindness, understanding, and sensitivity by the VCA Palo Alto staff when I took Sophie there, that some of the painful loss became suspended for a brief time, and I am very thankful and appreciative to the staff for their endearing comfort towards me and Sophie. When the staff member came to the lobby to take Sophie, she gently told me that they would take good care of her, I felt relieved and blessed by this angelic staff member who was so sincere and genuine, and I knew I had chosen the right place. When we grieve for loss of our beloved pets, just a small gesture and words of comfort can make a big difference in relieving some of the pain. I am very grateful for VCA Palo Alto's staff for making a difference and helping me cope with the loss of my beloved Sophie.

Competent, accessible and helpful. As long time clients with multiple pets, we would recommend them to any responsible pet owner.

I really like Dr Smith; however, it seems that she is never in the office any more. Even when I am willing to see any vet, they can't get me in for a significant amount of time. This time when I called about my dog's suspected ear infection, the receptionist said they couldn't fit me in until over 2 weeks out but that I shouldn't wait that long and that I should try other vets. They are actively turning away patients.

They are very busy to give you an appointment when you need it. If your pet is in an emergency situation or even has a chronic condition, they are not helpful at all. I had to transfer my pet's records somewhere else.

I took my cat in for a visit- they made me bring him in at 10 am to be only seen at 2 pm. When I called in between to check on him, they were vague and not sure how he was doing(as I was not allowed inside). When the doctor did finally see him, they were in a rush, wrote out an elaborate treatment plan and did not take the time to even talk to us about it. They could have told us that they were too busy and not scheduled the appointment, instead of doing such a poor job.The worst part was, they did not consider a safe/conservative approach, their plan was x-ray, hospitalization, subcutaneous fluids, antiemetics and blood tests all at once for a cat who was eating and drinking well and had normal energy levels.Considering their prices are twice as high as other hospitals in the area, seems like they are desperate to make money and will do anything to maximize their profits. It was very clear that their priority is never the Pet.We went to a different clinic instead - they suggested a special diet and some forti-flora and everything else suggested by VCA only as a secondary step.

Don't even bother calling this place! First I was put on a 15 minute hold, then when someone finally answered, they hung up on me! I called back and spoke to Kaylee or Kylie and she was soooo rude! Poor phone etiquette! I told her that I wanted to make an appointment for my sick puppy and she told me that I had to drop him off for the day. I didn't want to drop him off for the whole day because he's really anxious and gets scared but she made me feel like I had no choice to because of their schedule! I mean can't these people be a little empathetic? I was told to come here by a friend and I guess it's true what they say about first impressions. Never calling vca palo alto animal hospital ever again! They do not accommodate!

Don't waste your time or money here. They are apathetic towards your fur babies. They expect you to just "drop them off" and get annoyed if you're showing worry or concern and having a hard time leaving your fur baby alone with them. It's wild that you can't stay with your baby as they draw their blood or stick a thermometer up their hoohah. They run a series of tests (half of which are useless and not needed), but they talk a big game about how each test is necessary. They talk to you on the phone while they have your baby animal so you're already feeling separation anxiety and so you hold on to every word. They feed your anxiety by saying they NEED exams of all sorts, because one exam only shows "so much" and to get the "whole picture," a series of exams need to be completed. Then they will tell you they find something concerning in an X-ray but it's "not for certain." The total of the exams was $1800 (fecal test, urinalysis, blood work, and x ray). They refuse to offer any additional help, for instance IF it is cancer or a tumor, they're "unable to remove the tumor," or "provide chemotherapy," because your pet isn't a "candidate." Basically they're just here to give your fur baby a death sentence. However, they still want to administer an ultrasound or MRI and charge $800 more per test. They just care about money and don't care what the diagnosis of any animal truly is. They mistook scar tissue in my cat baby's belly for a TUMOR. How?? If a real medical doctor (MD) made such a diagnosis they would lose their license because that is beyond unethical. Danielle, only cares about being a manager and making money off of you. Dr. Smith, while she may care for animals, cares more about how to make money off your fur baby too unfortunately.

Updated review:My dog was diagnosed with diabetes only after I asked them to test him for diabetes. I really felt comfortable with Vca Palo Alto because they always wanted to give the most expensive tests. (Which always came back as he was fine). When they finally agreed to test them for diabetes they gave horrible advice for example to keep his same diet. He should’ve been put on a better diet and been told exercise more. He could have lived another year or two, but his appointments kept being canceled and different doctors were giving different advice. Two months after being diagnosed he died today. He didn’t have to suffer. He was going to see another vet this week, they had a whole plan, but he never made it because of the medical advice of VCA Palo Alto.Old review with our old vet:Highly recommend.

Not happy with the way they do business. Can only drop my cat off at 9 am and I can't make that early because I have responsibilities in the morning. They don't seem to care at all. Citing covid for the restrictions. I guess they never heard of masks and sanitizer. Now I have to look elsewhere for treatment for my cat. EL Palo Alto
