Crossfit, forging elite fitness. I've been at it now for 7 years and have been at CFA since day 1. This gym is a welcoming small environment where families are welcome and the "Bro-ness" you experience at many other gyms doesn't exist. As Crossfit has changed and become a more mainstream workout, the quality of gyms has found a broad range. Crossfit Altadena is at the highest level. Programming: A There's nothing out of the box here. It's solid old fashioned Crossfit. There isn't a bias toward running or weight lifting. The programming almost resembles the old main site programming that people could actually use. Coaching: A+ J and the crew are very knowledgeable and make sure you are in good hands. They are Highly capable of helping you scale and making sure you have he necessary skills to workout safely and achieve your goals. Community: A+ Just nothing but nice people here. Family oriented but there are more than a number of people here lifting heavy and working out hard. You will be pushed by the community in the best way. Plenty of community events as well and a contingent of members who compete. The Box: B+ It's small and especially during weekend classes can get really crowded, but it works well and everyone gets a solid workout in. Value: A Probably the most affordable Crossfit box in the area. There are MANY boxes in the SGV, but between the level of coaching and the price CFA is amazing! If you want to Crossfit, look no further than CFA. Drop ins are welcome, bring your kids to Hang is cool. It's just an awesome place!

Supportive community to get fit with. From the time I started as a novice I always felt welcomed and able - friendly and experienced coaches help tailor workouts to any fitness and skill level. I had 0 experience with CF before joining yet every class was challenging and doable.

My wife and I lived down the street from the gym and found it driving by. Neither of us had done crossfit before walking into here but now we love it! The coaches Jay and Travis are excellent and know the perfect combination of training technique and pushing your limits. Lots of gyms you feel like you're just paying dues so you don't feel bad but here it has a nice family feel. I hate working out, but as far as a sucky activity goes they make it fun with daily workouts and pushing you to do your best. Always look forward to coming to the gym and seeing it grow! Would highly recommend to anyone. Regardless of whether or not you are in tip top shape or want to get there from the start.

Saw the prior review about needing to be extremely fit to do Crossfit. That was definitely not my story. I had never exercised consistently in my life. When I first tried Crossfit Altadena, I was 51 years old and over weight with back problems. The first time was rough. Burpees (still not my favorite) and running custom programmed by Jay because that is what he thought I could do safely. Well it worked. I was so sore the next day I could hardly move. But I wasn't injured and figured that the soreness meant it was working. Decided to give it 90 days. Jay promised me that every day would be different (and it was). And some days would be easier than others (better on the days with no burpees!). Fast forward two years. I have lost 60 pounds. I actually look forward to exercise (even the dreaded burpees - in moderation), and feel part of a great community of friends. Jay always had a scaled (easier) option if I could not do a movement yet - or was injured in some way. Early on I got a stress fracture in my heal from running (Doctor said it was because I started using my body). Jay taught me how to row and I subbed that for running for the next 90 days while I healed. He never pushes me more than I can handle. Even now I complain that he doesn't tell me to put on more weight on the barbell. "Practice your technique." Yeah, yeah, yeah. I want to lift more so I add my own and he calls me out when I my form suffers so I won't get hurt. Still working to get a strict pull up, handstand pushup, and double unders. At least I can jump rope now which I could not do at all before. CFA is a great size box to take up Crossfit. All ages and abilities. And no problem scaling movements to still get a workout. It's competitively priced compared to other Crossfit boxes but not cheap compared to 24 hour fitness. But you get what you pay for. It's a fixed monthly fee so just go more often to get the cost per visit down. I never get stuck in a rut and always seem to do more than I thought I could.

CrossFit Altadena is a fantastic place to get fit while having fun. Coaches are friendly, knowledgeable, and conscientious of member limitations. They don't expect you to be able to perform muscle ups, strict push-ups and other difficult exercises, but they will help get you there gradually. If you have an old injury that flares up from time-to-time, the coaches will modify your workout to accommodate you. They do not adhere to the in-your-face type of "encouragement," but they will push you enough to make sure you get the results you want. Programming is varied and well-balanced. It is geared toward complete, overall, functional fitness. Entire class does the same workout of the day (WOD). CrossFit Altadena does not lock you into a contract. Sign up on a month-to-month basis and if you have to quit, no problem/no penalty. This is a great place run by great people. Get yourself in here and find out what it feels like to actually WANT to work out!
