As I write this, I am still shaking from my phone conversation with Miss Delaney, Office Manager. It feels wrong to give Dr. Jim 1 Star, as he has done a great job with spaying and neutering my kitten litter these past couple of weeks. Professional and clean, the office appears at first glance to be a great place. Look a little closer folks... The Front Desk Staff is apparently, like many places right now, training new people and there are cracks that occur. That being said, I had some "confusion" with my girl kittens getting spayed. The males were done efficiently, and, that in itself was amazing in this time of "under staffed and over worked" excuses. I went to this clinic because they simply had openings at the time frame I required. This isn't even my vet of choice, and now, it is just a place I would never recommend. The confusion I speak of is when I made the appointment for the females cats, I was told that it would go as it did with the males. An appointment on an afternoon for a check up, then a stay over, with surgery the next morning. I called about a week out to confirm and there was a lot of stammering and I was put on hold. Only to find out that the appointment was just a preliminary, and that they would then schedule the spays, which could be weeks out. This was upsetting because it was not what I was told at the office when I set this up. Enter Delaney. She told me that the office was training new people, and that this was a miscommunication, that surgery does not happen on Wednesdays, etc. However, Dr. Jim must have approved it, and we went forward with the plan, with the possibility of surgery one day later, but all with one visit. I was fine with that. We had a great conversation that I would not called "heated". But rather she came across as doing her job. That job is customer service. It sometimes comes with stress and particularly when dealing with pets and their health. It's your job dear. When I picked the girls up, the front desk gal gave me the run down about the "E" collar and a 14 day recovery. I was obviously thrown off again by a "Miscommunication"...seems to happen often at this office. First off, I had never heard the cone referred to as an "E" collar, so I was like WTF? I literally thought they meant electric collar. These days E stands for electric. But now I see that it stood for Elizabethan Collar ... honest mistake. Anyway, I became somewhat agitated and asked to speak with someone, again Delaney, Office Manager extraordinaire. She was curt but clear that the collar is my choice, and the recovery is dependent on the cat but can be a much faster process. Back to the gal checking us out at the front desk. I want to say this must be the infamous "Gina" of Yelp fame. My Gina, how many people have you pissed off? You're a Yelp phenom! I am guessing that she just didn't like my adamant desire to get to the bottom of my pets aftercare, and that whatever I was told may or may not apply now, and that I should pay up, and shut up so she must have put her foot down on me being axed from the office..... Hey Gina, "I'm the customer!" I had every right to have a cleared understanding, as well as be told what I originally was rather than a whole other story. I was not "heated" however today, instead of calling to check on the kittens after surgery, I was told to take my business elsewhere that I wasn't a good fit for them Uh, sorry you aren't firing me deary. I am a paying customer who was given the runaround by Gina and her band of untrained staff. I've never been asked to take my business elsewhere, especially when the important part of this is pet care, it's not about me. These kittens need a second vaccination and they told me to basically stick it you know where. I have to laugh because now that I see these other reviews, it all makes sense. Dr. Jim, I'd suggest you take these front staff girls into a nice little meeting and rip them a part. Unless you want

I took my pup here for the first time today and had a great experience. Unlike some other local vets, they are allowing pet owners into the exam rooms, which is great because I have a pretty anxious pup. They were well-organized, thorough, and communicative. Highly recommend

Most appointments where without issue, however my 3 cats had an appointment for vaccination and they only had vaccination available. Not only that, we waited 20 minutes to find out. Very poor customer service.

I don't know if there is new owners but we called to put our dog down there because he was 15, had a stroke overnight and this has been our vet for years, we take all our animals here. The girl at the front desk was quite rude with really bad customer service and a real non chalant attitude, told us we had to make an appointment for him to be seen (and charged the exam fee) to even have the option of putting him down, then we were told they couldn't do it the day of his euthanasia, so we would have to come back 3 days later to put him down. You could take one look at him and know he was suffering and we did not want to prolong it. We were told if we wanted to be in the room it was an additional fee than letting him go alone at a cheaper cost. After questioning her on all of these things that weren't making sense and being put on hold 3x to find answers... I finally just gave up. We've never has this experience here and have always loved our vet and their staff. But I will NEVER bring my animals here again or make anymore referrals to our friends and family. Really disappointed with them!

Wow! The staff at Paso Robles veterinary clinic are amazing. My little dog was terrified and they allowed me to put a muzzle on her that they brought to me. She got so scared she defecated and Peed all over, including the poor technician. They were really gracious about it. She had to have her nails trimmed because one was curling and once they got her in there she was out super fast and very happy and they were very very kind

I was a very loyal customer for years and years. I took my cat who lived to be 22 to Dr. Jim who was a great vet. She passed several years ago. I now have 2 cats, a kitten and a 4 year old. I have now transferred both of their medical records to another local vet due to the service that I have repeatedly received by Gina and another longtime office worker. It is so crazy that after all of these years (and I am reading other like reviews, and she is still here doing the same crappy service!) she treats longtime customers so disrespectfully. I even spoke to a local vet's office who said that a worker there left this place and that it's bee going on for years like this. I wonder when this vet is going to turn over to new staff. There are other people out there who would love a good job in a vet's office. Don't be afraid to train new people. You are losing customers. Also, it really offends me that "breeding" is supported by this vet office. I support "rescue." So, I can finally say that. But Dr. Jim, I hate to leave you, I just really couldn't be treated rudely anymore! After what, almost 20 years!

Went there Sept of 2020 , never been before but it was an emergency. This business is not dealing with the Covid crisis well at all ! I was not allowed to accompany my sweet pup inside . I needed to use bathroom but was not allowed inside , even with mask on ! It was dark and I had to drive around Atascadero looking for bathroom ! Talked to vet on phone out in the parking lot , hope I never have to go there again !

I have been seeing this group since I moved here in 2013. Today, I had to say goodbye to my beloved cat. The entire staff, and especially Dr. Jim, were so compassionate and caring. I love these folks! If I ever get another pet, I will definitely be back!

Best small animal vet in Northern SLO County! I have been to two other vets and they were nothing compared to the Paso Robles Vet Medical Clinic. I have been taking my pets here for over 8 years and can only say good things. They always treat my pets (dogs and cats) like they were their own with respect and care. Everyone employed here are always the sweetest people looking for the best solution for my pets and I. I was their today to make sure that I got a fox tail out of her under eyelid but while I was there they were also able to give both my dogs a snake bite vaccine to help with future snake bites. They stayed after hours to give my dogs the vaccines with no extra cost. In conclusion, this company has the best service and prices. I would never hesitate to recommend this Vet Clinic to anyone!

I don't even know how to rate these guys right now I am so upset. I have been bringing all my animals here for years and never had any issues until recently whenever this Dr Deb gets involved. Dr Jim has always been the Dr i am used to dealing with. Never had any problems with any other staff there. I was quoted a price awhile back to have my dog fixed, I chose to wait awhile. When I decided to do it, the price went up a little because she had gained some weight. I went ahead and set the appt at the new quoted price, took her in today, signed everything, and three hours later I get a call that this dr wants 75.00 more because of her weight. That's wrong. I was already quoted a higher price for that. I was told when I set the appt 195.00. She even lost a pound since they last weighed her. I'm very upset. Plus this dr wanted 35.00 to just tell me if her anal gland was full. Not to express it, just look and see if it needed it. I'm blown away at this treatment today. Not sure I will be back with any of my animals again. I had my son go pick up my dog, and did not have the procedure done. What a waste of time this morning. I only will deal with Dr Jim if I ever go back.

What can I say, this vet offers better services and medical advice than our local Twin Cities hospital. We have taken many of out pets here over the years for both the good with new puppies and adoptions and sad sad reasons that don't need to be discussed. Dr. Weiss seems to be truthful and upfront while not making owners feel guilty for not performing unnecessary tests and procedures that bump up the cost of visits. In addition, his staff is kind and very helpful and knowledgeable. Most importantly, you can usually get a same day appointment which helps with immediate needs, and they offer no office visit cost for vaccinations on Saturdays.
